I've done it. That burst of bitterness put me into spasms. I've ate coffee grounds and it is not as bad as eating instant coffee. Only time I did it properly was stabbing a couple pin holes into the pouch and putting it in my cheek. That was intense too.

Only time I've done any of this and have it be bearable was taking coffee grounds in a paper towel and put it in my cheek. That lasted about five hours before the shakes were making it so my hands were slipping off the wheel.

Will MREs ever get cheap again? Back in the late 90s I could swing by the army/navy store, pick up 4 MREs for 10 bucks and get a surplus wool blanket for free tossed in. Made for great car camping food and the wool blanket was great for when you brought a girl with you since they are always cold.

Surplus stuff is so expansive now it makes more sense to just buy Mountain Houses and chink made blankets.

I wouldn't go that far. It's certainly not bad for you if you're doing it right, but they're over-issued in a lot of situations. I often give away the simple carbs and keep the complex carbs, trading when I can for more protein and complex carbs.
