Your distinction between types of bolt-action isn't how bolt actions work. Mausers, for instance, are not explicitly cock-on-open. You can have a cock-on-close Mauser (like pic related, my Carl Gustaf m/96). There's also the P14 and M1917 Enfield rifles, which are cock-on-close like a Lee-Enfield but have bolt designs more similar to a Mauser action.

You also have plenty of rifles, such as the Mannlicher-Schoener, Vetterli, or more recently the Browning A-Bolt (which incidentally is somewhat similar to the Vetterli), that aren't based on any of the three "major" bolt action patterns.


Basically, your poll should probably just combine all bolt-action designs into a single option.

I happen to like the rolling block action because of its strength and mechanical simplicity, but I know it's not the most modern.

Firing a single shot rifle is a joy. My grandfather taught me to shoot on an ancient Remington Rolling Block rifle.
