Knives go through it like butter. There's an affordable armor manufacturer I know of in Britain called safeguard armor, they make bullet/stab proof combos for around $400 USD that are comfy as hell even compared to other non-stab proof vests.

You should have your own big ass knife as well, and pepper spray works. Sabre red is a good brand. I got sprayed with some 0.7% in academy and was fucked for an hour... they make up to 4.0%, it works just make sure you know how to use it. Know the range, Z pattern across the face, and don't get yourself contaminated (wind blowing towards you, target touching you). Spray and run, and if it does get in your eyes fucking open them and escape even if you have to use your fingers to pry your eyes open. Your eyes won't melt, it just feels like they are.

"The stab game"? What the fuck Britain? Alright, bludgeoning weapons are your most obvious answer, they are easy to use and most anything can be made into one. Take a newspaper, roll it up as tight as you can and fold it in half. Not much, but it can cause some damage and pain. I wager there isn't much you are allowed to carry that is meant to be a weapon, so get creative.

Also, learn some open hand self defense. Even if you are armed, knife attacks often happen too fast to draw any kind of weapon, so it's good to know how to defend yourself without one. If you can avoid the first strike or two you might buy yourself enough time to get a weapon.
