>(Updated) DN-3 missile spotted preparing for launch

>“The PLA is acquiring a range of technologies to improve China’s counterspace capabilities,” the Pentagon’s latest report on the Chinese military said.

>“In addition to the development of directed energy weapons and satellite jammers, China is also developing anti-satellite capabilities and has probably made progress on the anti-satellite missile system it tested in July 2014.”

>In addition to missiles and lasers, China also is working on small maneuvering satellites that can grab and destroy orbiting satellites.

>Richard Fisher, a China military affairs specialist, said the DN-3 appears to be based on the Kuaizhou-1 (KZ-1) mobile space launch vehicle.

>“It’s about the same size as the DF-31 solid fuel mobile intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM),” he said.

>Fisher, senior fellow at the International Assessment and Strategy Center, said the DN-3 could be capable of hitting satellites more than 18,640 miles away in space—more than enough to reach large U.S. surveillance satellites that occupy orbit 186 to 620 miles from earth.

Another ASAT with GPS-killing capability, due to its High Earth Orbit/GSO target altitude. All in a size of a road mobile solid fueled DF-31 ICBM.

Breddy gud.

>They need a fucking ICBM to shoot a satellite
Holy fucking kek that's pathetic, ours are air mobile
>>
>>32288347
Yeah, and it can only reach 350 miles (563 km).

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/ASM-135_ASAT

Barely enough to take out low orbiting reconnaissance sats.

China's can take out super high orbiting geostationary satellites, like GPS and weather satellites.

>>32288347
And we managed to do it in the 80's.

still only LEO capable.

America has yet to demonstrate anti GSO capability. Even the X37B still plays in the LEO league.

And to counter american attempts at striking China's GSO satellites, the Beidou system has been put into even higher orbits, which requires the prospective US GSO ASATs to expend even more Delta-V to reach it (and hence needs to be even larger than ICBMs).

LMAO DUDE U MEAN TO HIT SOMETHING IN LEO YOU NEED A SIMILAR SIZED ROCKET TO THE ROCKET THAT PUT THE THING IN LEO IN THE FIRST PLACE???!??!!?

God, /k/ I love you but but even highschool physics comes to bite you guys in the ass when you believe things written on a brochure rather than even very simple and proven napkin math disproving it.

It will be very interesting to see China develop these and never use them, moreover it will be interesting to see what the U.S does in response since American and NATO satellite communication is one of the largest infrastructure advantages held over anyone else and protecting it will be a high priority now.

Do you guys think that a separate ABM will be developed or will putting Aegis and THAAD systems all in Japan and S.Korea be enough?

>LMAO DUDE U MEAN TO HIT SOMETHING IN LEO YOU NEED A SIMILAR SIZED ROCKET TO THE ROCKET THAT PUT THE THING IN LEO IN THE FIRST PLACE???!??!!?

Eh, not necessarily true. The long march 3B rocket that is used to launch the BeiDou satellites can carry a payload of 5,100 kg (in addition to the rocket weight) into geosynchronous orbit (carrying two BeiDou-2 satellites at a time). Whereas the SM-3, which goes for a kinetic energy kill, so carries minimal payload (AFAIK, less than 100 kg). I doubt any SM-3 will be able to reach that far simply because you can't fit a big enough booster into a Mk 41 VLS, but I don't doubt you can do it with something not that much bigger.
>>
So in order to hit satellites, China is going to launch ICBMs and risk nuclear counter attacks?

Impressive
>>
Another level of MAD
>>
>>32288318
And the US Lazers will just shoot it down before it reaches its target.

China is like 20 years late to this game.

Now I want to see that laser.

>LMAO DUDE U MEAN TO HIT SOMETHING IN LEO YOU NEED A SIMILAR SIZED ROCKET TO THE ROCKET THAT PUT THE THING IN LEO IN THE FIRST PLACE???!??!!?
But you don't. Amount of delta-V required for rising to LEO height (2 km/s not counting losses) and putting object on LEO orbit (9 km/s) is vastly different. But higher you go the less is such difference.
