Just any stock, shooting 12g with a pistol grip is not fun at all. Not only is it hard to control it also hurts quite a bit, even low recoil shells are quite rough on your wrist and arm.

Also first gun is supposed to be a pistol unless you specifically are going hunting with it.

Handgun is actually better for clearing a house then a long barrel. Plus then you can work into carrying concealed.

you bought a gun. congratulations. much like getting your first tattoo the only thing youll be thinking about is what are you going to get next? a mossberg 500 isn't the worst choice for a first gun, but i'd recommend a pistol or rifle for the next one. most ranges only let you shoot skeet or trap with shotguns so if you really want to burn some powder either get a clay thrower or buy a pistol. my first two guns were a yugo m57 pistol and an sks. i'm now looking at a glock, sig or a s&w snubby for my next one
