Might pick up a Type 53 for $170, out the door.

Should I pick it up?

Never cared for Mosins, but being a carbine, it got me interested.

Also, Milsurp general.

meh if you dont own a mosin carbine might as well pick one up and give them a shot. they are fun as fuck. T53 are probably the cheapest option right now, most are beat to shit and pretty ugly but i think that makes them look cool

Not even slightly. The whole thing is heavy, but well balanced and somehow elegant. Working the action is smooth but...weighty? It's hard to describe. Imagine your driving a luxury full sized sedan. That's what the action is like. And the trigger beats out my K31. So far the ONLY flaw I can find is loading it without stripper clips is a bit of a pain. But with them, it's great. Beats out the Mosin by miles.

>>
>>32285472
it'll hit $.60 per round max. The factories are virtually free given they were built by the USSR, and due to the value of the ruble Russian employees are paid far less. In addition, there will always be contract overruns ala Golden Tiger.

The lighting sucks and it's dark out so I can't take it outside for a better pic. Receiver is SA, 1,992,XXX serial number, which is October of 1943. Trigger assembly is WRA, but I haven't looked up much else.

My dad just sent it to me as he's getting a bit old for some of his guns (he's 84). He got it from the CMP around 20 years ago. I haven't fired it yet, but I stripped and cleaned it, and it looks great. Barrel is in excellent shape.

Yes.

They go anywhere from $200 to $2000 (or more for super rare variants). But most will be around the $300 range. Add more for original early parts like the monopod, dust cover and AA sights, but they have to be real ones, not repro parts and the DC has to be matching to add value.
>>
>>32287909
Funny history with the 1917. They made more of them during the war than 1903. By all means they fought the war.

But Springfield among others wanted the publicity in the home grown 1903 so most official pictures were hand selected for 1903s but nearly every other photo you will find a 1917.

1903 is literally stolen valor, 1917 is the underdog. Not that the 1903 is a bad rifle, she just had controlling parents, that red headed stepchild wasn't their baby

This thread needs more carbines.

On a related note, is Prvi Partizan's 6.5mm Carcano usable in the M1891's? I've read that it's dimensions don't properly match the bore diameter, and that it's wildly inaccurate as a result. However, it's the only Carcano ammo I can find online that isn't like 30 bucks for a box of twenty.

Anyone know any good alternatives, or should I just suck it up and get the Prvi?

If it's pre-armistice absolutely. If it's a post war refurb (most likely) then I'd offer him $400 and reluctantly take it at $450. Easiest way to tell if it's pre-armistice is to check the front sight. If it has sight wings instead of a hood, it's pre-armistice.

All the Turk re-builds used the same bayonet pattern generally referred to as "M38".

Unfortunately not. but it's good to know i didn't get ganked on my first mauser. I shoulda done more research beforehand but i honestly didn't expect to find anything that caught my eye at the gunshow.

$800 is a fair price for what you eat described. Mas rifles don't have a traditional bayonet mount. They have a tube under the stock and the bayonet is contained and attached in that tube.

I don't even care about the price of x54r, if I can find a decent price on a T53 or M44, I'm fucking down to buy it.

if you just want to own a rifle, sure. the cartridges are pretty much only available through online sources, and even then not widely available. only 2 vendors load for it and finding retailers that have it in stock online is can be difficult. not to mention you are going to spend like $30-40 a box of 20 before shipping

I've seen on sites a box of 100 go for 20$

Unless this is terrible ammo it seems fairly economical.

I finally took my Finn-captured 1920 Tula m/91 apart. It has 2 nails holding each of the barrel bands from sliding forward but I was able to pull one out of each set and get the bands off. I was concerned about potential corrosion since this thing probably hadn't been apart since before it was imported. Fortunately all is well with the metal; there was dirty, dried-on cosmoline to remove but the only spot of corrosion was a spot on the side of the tang. It does have a 1920-dated receiver.

>>
>>32292975
the bullets are usually pretty cheap in these lesser used rifles. its the brass that is expensive. if you can reload it's not a big deal once you source some quality brass. but if you are a novice to guns, i would not suggest reloading until you get some basic knowledge of ballistics or you will end up blowing yourself up. although an arisaka is probably the most forgiving rifle for mistakes of that kind

the actions are all strong as fuck. but being "best" i think would be whatever your own personal opinion is. the strongest action is the ariska, the smoothest cycling the bolt would be lee enfield or krag. cheapest ammo would be the mosin. design used in many nations the mauser. Honestly you cant go wrong with any of them unless its chambered in a non popular round and you dont reload. my personal favorite is my 1903a3 i got it with 400 rounds of 30.06 for 400 bucks cause a guy at work was getting a divorce and had to sell all his guns.

See this is weird, that 'strengthening bar' can't really be doing all that much good, it might help with rigidity to reduce receiver flex but that's about it. All the bolt thrust is still going to those rear locking surfaces. Honestly that's pretty impressive for an Enfield from the 1890s. Makes you wonder about all those No4 conversions, the good ones done properly, and if they could actually handle .308 safely over the service life instead of just 7.62. If a No1 can shoot Turkish 8mm I mean shit.

I know the British tended to set very wide safety margins on their weapons in regards to strength, I read about it in regards to naval guns. There were tests done that concluded the British safety margins were far in excess of those imposed by the Germans, and there was evidence presented that this was not restricted to naval guns but to British made small arms as well. I wish I could find it again, there was a lot of metallurgical and scientific stuff in there that I didn't fully understand but it was well written enough to get the point across anyway.
