Empty Mag
Bolt doesn't lock back.
>>
>>32280023
Short stroked action if not locking back after last shot, use hotter ammo

If bolt just doesn't lock back, could be a mag issue, try a different mag.
>>
>>32280023
Shoot mag emptier
>>
While you all are at it today my ar started doing this thing where it will fire a round but the bolt carrier group won't even move back at all and I have to use the charging handle to manually eject the round and cycle a new one. What could the problem be? My gas tube?
>>
I have a pistol that doesn't always lock back on an empty mag. I cleaned the mags yesterday so maybe that'll help.
>>
>>32281250
this.

also check your mags to see if the spring isn't worn out, or if the follower is not fucked.
>>
>>32281402
Check your gas rings.

This? I believe it's leaking something
>>
>>32281402
Check for gas tube obstruction (unlikely).

Check that the gas block is still in place. Probably isn't.
>>
>>32281502
How can I know if it's out of place?
>>
>>32281490
Take your bolt out, clen it, and show us. Not just the bolt carrier but take out the bolt from the carrier itself.
>>
>>32281490
Is your gas block installed right? The gas rings I was talking about are the rings on your bolt. You will need to take the bolt out of your carrier.

OK so the spot where it flares out before it tapers down into the rear of the bolt, give us a closeup and make sure it's clean so we can see

It's very loose on the bolt
>>
>>32281559
Rings don't look right. One isn't right. Hard to see. I think you're leaking gas dude.

Do any of the rings have a visible gap or seem bent?
>>
>>32281590
>>32281607
put the bolt back in the carrier then hold it by only the bolt. Give it a wiggle over a soft surface. If the bolt carrier falls off, get new gas rings.
>>
Did you put the wrong spring in the bolt catch?

PSA sent me a wrong spring with my build kit. I think they gave me a second disconnector spring that wasn't painted green

Like that kind of gap? They don't seem bent
>>
>>32281559
Yeh your gas rings look loose. You can get new ones and install yourself or just get a new bolt. One more test is to reassemble the bolt with lube and everything and pull the bolt to the extended position in the carrier. Then stand the entire bolt and carrier on the bolt face upright. If the bolt can't support the weight of the carrier and the carrier sides down then your rings are for sure fucked.

That's probably not the problem though, an AR can function properly with just one gas ring.
>>
>>32281630
Yeah just do this.
>>
>>32281644
>>32281630
fuck, didn't mean to double post. Sorry.
>>
>>32281633
It's hard to see. Just do the test as others mentioned. Put your bolt in the carrier and see if the weight of the carrier pushes the bolt in deeper by standing the bolt face/carrier up right. I swear one of your rings looks fucked but could be shadows in the pic.
>>
>>32281644
I just did that and the carrier stayed with the bolt. I even wiggled it quite a bit
>>
>>32281637
don't get a new bolt just for the gas rings. They're a normal wear part, that's like getting a new engine because you ran out of oil.
>>
>>32281668
Yea u rite
>>
>>32281667
did you install your own gas block?
>>
>>32281677
No I didn't. I just tried it again and the carrier fell off the bolt
>>
>>32281685
Is it lubricated?
>>
>>32281685
I would replace the gas rings then. Have you ever cleaned the gas tube? You might have accidentally obstructed it.
>>
>>32281685
Install new rings just to rule this out. The gas rings should resist just ever so little to give like a drag feeling when putting it in or pulling it out.
>>
>>32281668
>that's like getting a new engine because you ran out of oil.
Well if you ran it dry then there's a solid chance you'll need a new one.
>>
>>32280023
Stop riding your slide release dipshit.
>>
>>32281717
Bad comparison on my part. It's more like if you're running low on oil.
>>
>>32281717
Yeah. Ar's don't need a lot of oil on the rings but they can't be done dry. This will automatically fuck em. It's a really tight dragging like fit.
>>
>>32280023
Had the same issue, gas rings were fine turned out that my bolt catch was hard to move and would intermittently not lock the bolt. Took it out and removed some of the finish and had no issues since.
>>
>>32281736
nah they can be dry. The gas blowback will blow any lube in their off when you first fire.
>>
>>32281744
You would be surprised. If the machining is shit, the gas rings can get screwed up being ran dry. When a good carrier is machined its reamed in that area. I know, I stood in front of a turning center wanting to kill my self pumping carriers out.
>>
>>32281704
Yes even when lubed the carrier falls. I never fucked with the gas tube at all.
>>
>>32281778
Good. Don't fuck with the gas tube. You could inspect it to make sure it isn't broken somehow, but don't ever put something in it. Get the new gas rings, then see if it works.
>>
>>32281804
Okay. Thanks guys
