Hey /k/, sorry to be a complete newfag but i wanna buy a CETME/HK G3 pattern rifle for the 1st time. I've been looking at PTR for a long time and I've heard a lot of good things about them, i already know to stay away from the shit tier Century CETME builds including their C308.

The G3 pattern of rifles looks to have a more complex assembly than an AK. (At least with the bolt)

Can you help a /k/omrade out, and tell me what i need to know? I'm gonna be having a 1,000 dollar budget when i get my tax return next year.

>Inb4 every Swedfag tells me how great the AK4 is
>>
Norfag here. The ag3 is pretty great
>>
>>32276945
How so?
>>
>>32276908
I don't know how simple the AK assembly is so I cant compare them, but I never felt the G3 assembly was too complicated. Fairly easy to manage if you ask me.

Or, for a few shekels more:
If you dig around, you can find a SAR-8, a licensed copy from Greece imported by Springfield for close to $1000, but that'd take some luck as prices are rising. Not exactly HK, but made on HK tooling by HK trained techs.

Be sure to avoid the later aluminum receivers. Make sure it says "made in Greece."

Sar3's and Portuguese FMP's are preban so they'll blow your $1000 budget up. Some Sar3's were caught in customs and restamped "8" (like hk911 and 756S7), which are called "overstamps." Then there are plain Jane Sar8's

Pic related; the Sar8 I picked up this week.

Forgot to add: G3's aren't any more complex than AK's. Takes 2 seconds to field strip both. G3 is pull two pins, put pins in those holes in the stock, pull stock, trigger pack comes off, pull bolt.
>>
>>32277312
But the bolt reassembly looks more complex and it looks like it requires tools.
>>
>>32277346

It's only slightly more complex because the AK assembly is field stripped to two parts (the bolt and carrier+piston lol) and the G3 pattern rifle's is field stripped to five (carrier, bolt, locking piece, firing pin, firing pin spring) and requires a little bit of knowledge to take apart and put back together correctly.

Watch a few youtube videos about it once you have the thing in your hands and it's no big deal. You'll find out that once you have the locking piece in there's really only one way to get the bolt back on that makes any sense.

I think they're A LOT simpler than an AK. Great rifles. The Collapsible stock like the one in your pic tends to be a little heavier on recoil than the solid stocks, but completely manageable.

>>32277346
Eh, not really. the only time you'd need to take apart the bolt is to replace the rollers. and that's it. otherwise. 180 degree twist and the bolt comes off. 30 degree twist even further and the locking piece and firing pin assembly comes out. I do recommend inspecting the locking piece every 1k rounds or so. it's a softer metal than the rollers, so it'll wear out faster(relatively speaking).

only thing you have to watch out for is when you're reassembling the BCG. when you go to reinstall the bolt, don't place it all the way flush with the carrier before you rotate it. otherwise it'll lock into place with the anti-bounce catch. and that has a bitch of spring pressure.

To be honest, you really don't have to take the bolt assembly apart all that often, unless you are running some really dirty ammo(federal XM80). And even then, it doesn't get too bad in there. the trunnion and chamber area gets most of the carbon build up.

ngl I bought a PTR because of battlefield 3. I used that gun a fuckton.

I got pretty pissed when they removed it for BF4. same with the hk53.

Another Norfag here, have a good amount if experience with the Ag3

>The G3 pattern of rifles looks to have a more complex assembly than an AK. (At least with the bolt)

Bolt can be a bit little tricky to assemble to begin with, but watch a few videos online and you'll get the hang of it fast. The trick is to squeeze the rollers until the bolt is in the forward position. Otherwise it's as simple as an AK.

>Can you help a /k/omrade out, and tell me what i need to know? I'm gonna be having a 1,000 dollar budget when i get my tax return next year.

I'd def buy one if I could, it's a reliable, accurate and smooth shooting battle rifle.
>>
Unless you can nearly orgasm hands free from doing the HK bolt slap, it seems to me there is very little reason to get a PTR over a DSA FAL. Not that the FAL is a great deal higher quality or anything to my knowledge, but at least you can reload the brass it spits out. The PTR is going to chew it all to shit.

>>32278051
is it too big to comfortably use for someone that is 170cm?

FAL is not as accurate, less reliable under extreme conditions, etc.

Not as clear cut as you make it. The PTR does have shit ergonomics, enormous snappy recoil impulse, mangles brass and throws it a country mile, and optics are an afterthought but it's probably the best cheap battle rifle you can get that is truly combat tested. I personally prefer the AR10 but that's because I prize accuracy above almost everything else in a rifle.

M8 pls, both rifle patterns do well achieving 1 MOA. Also:

>Not getting a parts kit and a receiver from Coonan
Sounds like somebody doesn't wouldn't want to assmeble

Most of the damage to brass comes from the ejection. If you get a port buffer, it will prevent the worst of it. The flutes cause mostly superficial marks and the brass is still perfectly reloadable with the port buffer.
>>
>>32278970
There's nothing wrong with a proper AR10.

>>32279015
Show me a FAL that can reliably shoot 1 MOA or less. 5 shot groups and at least 5 groups in a row.

Yes there is, it's you being a faggot in every single thread anyone tries to discuss alternative battle rifles to the AR-10.

>Show me a FAL that can reliably shoot 1 MOA
You build it. And then you feed her handloads or you can get lucky with match barrels. Find someone to free float your barrel.

On what planet is a battle rifle supposed to shoot 1 MOA? That's not what they're for. That's DMR territory.

>>32278682
Nope, not at all. Just make sure you shoulder it properly

nigger shut the fuck up and kill your self with this irreversibly damaged brass meme. the only reason the brass would be badly mangled to the point of not being able to reload is if you gun needs new rollers. kys

So you don't own one, huh? Real big fan, though?

Ultra cheap surplus magazines. A lot of the parts are cheap. A lot of the parts are balls expensive. ITS FUN TO SHOOT :3
