Hey /k/, ive never owned a gun and i think i wanna get a rifle. Im thinking of something simple and not to modern, maybe an m1 garand and looking at the prices around $1000 i can afford that.
What do you think?
Buy guns
>>32265013
Just get a .308 bolt action at a dept store, and then spend the rest (~$600.00) on optic, ammo, and beer.
Start with a .22
Also garands are finicky. Like a hot chick they're high maintenance. Do your homework before you eat an operating rod or loose a thumb.

>start with 22
When will this meme die
>>32265013
Buy Mosin, SKS, and a Mossberg pump-action shotgun.
All doable for under 1000 bucks.
>>32265065
OP do NOT start with a 22. It's terrible advice for new gun owners, since it leaves you wanting a bigger caliber in the end.
>>32265100
I honestly think it's kids repeating fudd advice on starting a kid shooting. It's retarded nonetheless.
>>32265100
This, buy a .223/5.56/7.62x39/7.62x51 semi.
A .22 isn't quite necessary, especially if you thought about getting a garand straight out of the gate. All of the above are low maintenance, have relatively affordable ammo, and are easily found for <$1000.

This
M1 was my first gun
its a HIGH fucking skill ceiling to start with. i probably should have started with something a little more mechanically simple, but I persevered because during the CMP wait i studied non stop. Do that. study everything about the gun before you buy it. Youll be fine just dont be dumb and lose a thumb
Start with a .22 ignore these fucking idiots. If you never shot a gun especially a rifle your going to want something that teaches you the basics on gun safety and shooting without the harsh recoil. It's highly customizable. Remember the decathalon Olympic athletes shoot 22 :^)
>>32265013
M1s are fun, but personally I think the M1 Carbine is more fun.

Retarded advice
The British Army start everyone on 5.56 as a bare minimum, and Section Commanders are gun safety nazi's on the range, it's harder for you to fuck up than not, and the """recoil""" if you can even call it that is almost non existant
5.56/.223 is absolutely fine to start on, stop giving bullshit advice
>>32265221
SKS is best first rifle. Be patient and try to get one under 400
>>32265100
Never, obviously.
I'd tell people to start with pistols first, because they're the biggest pain in the ass to master.
Then get raifu
This was my first gun.

>breaking in boots
When will this meme die
>>32265013
Go through the CMP and get a Garand. $630.
>>32266339
the meme will die when doing 12 miles with a combat load in new boots doesnt tear up your feet.
POG
>>32266357
it was a joke and a reference to the trench foot thread
>>32266397
>trench foot
them's 4 letter words anon
>>32265013

>>32266180

>>32265065

lolno
>>32265065
>start with a .22
do this please and stop listening to the faggots saying to start with anything else. you will be a terrible shot and have bad habits.
>>32266225
>the army
>recreational shooter
Yep same thing
I would recommend an AR/AK or perhaps an FAL. All are great multipurpose rifles, with great history behind them.
>not too modern
AK, or FAL then.
>>32266598
Fal designed 47-53
Ar-15 designed 56
AK designed 46-48
Yeah ar-15s are very very modern almost 10 years newer!
>>32265065
I agree start with a .22......as in .223
The only people who should start out on 22s are children and small women.
When i was first getting my wife into hunting i got her a .243 rem 700. This is the best starter caliber for hunting in north america. Its soft and flat shooting, which is perfect for first time hunters.
