Hello /k/unts,
Just bought a PTR 91 with top rail. Can anyone recommend a decent scope and mount for target shooting up to 600 yards? Looking for:
-$300 or less total cost, can go over
-Ballistic reticle
-See-through/quick detach mount preferred, but not absolutely necessary
-Preferably doesn't block the charging handle
>>32261465
>600 yards
>PTR
Pick one.
Aimpoint T1
I use a vortex crossfire ii 3-9x on mine. My range only goes out to 300yds, but it's more than enough magnification to see a half size silhouette at that range. Cost was only $125 or so.
Can't help you with the mount though, I use a claw mount and regular 1 inch rings because norailz.
>>32261465
At that price pert near the only options is Vortex Strike Eagle or the Primary Arms 1-6xACSS.
>>32261537
This had better be bait otherwise you're dumber than a sack of hammers carried by a downie who was raised on paint chips
So, uh, is the PTR better than the C308? Figured this would be the place to ask.
>>32261609
How is the BDC hold?
>>32261537
>free float barrel
>decent barrel
>gas system that doesn't mess with barrel harmonics much
>308
huh?
>>32261742
Yes.
>>32261742
You might luck out and get a C308 that's decent, but you run a high risk of getting a shit one that won't function well. The PTR won't likely have those same problems and is made with higher quality parts. Buy once cry once.
>>32261809
>PTR
>gas system
>>32261742
PTR is the best you can get that isn't HK and as a result fuckspensive and rare.
Because you suck and they hate you.
>>32261823
>>32261825
I see... what about the C93? Would the smaller round make it less prone to problems?
I have a ptr91 with the welded rail, if I put a scope on it am I gonna need to also get a cheek riser?
>>32261899
Unless your head is huge or you mount it reeeal low.
>>32261843
I have one, it has no issues. Just be prepared to spend all of your money on magazines
>inb4 "muh promag muddafuka"
>>32261809
Well, it's 308...so that's right.
>>32261809
>free float barrel
>>32261947
They are free floated you dumb nigger.
>>32261969
>free float barrel
>>32261987

Dumb nigger.
>>32261987
>>32261999
PTR handguards touch the barrel. It isn't free floating.
>>32262030
They don't touch the barrel though; you can grab the barrel and push the handguard up, down, left, and right a couple millimeters each way.
>>32261825
But doesn't PTR make most of the parts on the C308 anyways? They make the upper receiver, barrel, lower receiver, and a shit ton of other parts for it.
>>32262030
No they do not. They are floated.
>>32262030
They don't. They're mounted onto the cocking tube, not the barrel
>>32262080
Even the cocking tube is on the barrel.
If it were free-floating it'd only be connected to the receiver.
>>32262080
Fake
>>32262082
But they don't put the parts together; Century's own "assemblers" do that.
>>32261465
300 should get you a Vortex Strike Eagle if you want something a little better quality than the Crossfire.
>>32262108
The cocking tube is not connected to the barrel. The front sight tree wraps around the cocking tube but does not touch, except on a short run of early HK91s. It's freefloated
>>32261843
The c93 was one of the few things century did that wasn't shit but have fun with the $50 mags
>>32262082
No like 99% of all other century arms shit is cobbled together from what ever parts they could find.
>>32261465
Hello /k/unts,
Just bought a PTR 91...for target shooting up to 600 yards?
Need a different rifle for that
-$300 or less total cost, can go over
Vortex strike eagle
-Ballistic reticle
That's a problem. Don't know where you'll find a proper first focal plane optic near that price range
-See-through/quick detach mount preferred, but not absolutely necessary
Can get pretty cheap mounts off brand, won't need see through with a 1-6x imo
>>32262108
You're not a very smart person are you?
your glass should cost at least half as much as the firearm you are putting it on. though preferably, the glass should cost as much.
>>32262132
False, most of the parts are new except the sights, bolt carrier, and bolt. Pretty much everything else is PTR made.
>>32261537
>>32262136
>PTR 91
>not viable for man sized targets at <800 yards
Is /k/ really this shit?
>>32261809
>A PTR91 is an AR10
Really makes you think
>>32262108
>Even the cocking tube is on the barrel.
No, not for the A3 and later. The cocking tube extends into the triple-frame but is not connected to it. It only makes contact with the triple frame if the barrel is forced in one direction or another.
>>32262193
Portugal thought so.
>>32262201
Thank you intelligent friend. Get the FALfag out of here.
>>32262209
Just admit the other rifle is better.
>>32262025
>>32261648
Yep, was going to post the same thing. Nothing comparable for the price, IMO.
For ~$100 more, you can get the Primary Arms 1-8x scope. Get a little more distance.
>>32262271
FAL is a shit meme. G3 is better in every single way besides rate of fire, and it's fucking 7.62 so full retard shouldn't be on the table that often.
I guess there's also the ability to launch grenades with blanks but... don't do that.
>>32261969

>>32261809
>Free floating barrel
>>32262082
>Quality parts assembled by retarded monkeys.
Good luck with that!
Is the Primary arms 5x any good or is the strike eagle all around better
>>32262313
$380 for just the scope is pushing it but I'll look into it, thanks.
>>32262373
Get a job. If $400 is a lot to you then you probably can't feed that raifuru.
>>32262347
They're two different things; one is a compact fixed-power prismatic and the other is a larger variable-power.
>>32261842
There is a third choice.
>>32261465
Primary Arms 5x Prism on an ACOG claw mount my lad, thank me later
>>32261465
Nikon Prostaff 3-9x40 with BDC or Mildot reticle

>>32263045
There are many choices but I stand by my statement. PTR uses old HK manufacturing equipment, that's as good as you're going to get without sucking the Koch or going custom.
>>32261465
Primary Arms or vortex. The specific model depends on your preference (size, weight, magnification, fixed/adjustable etc).
>>32261465
I have a vortex diamondback on mine, it works well. BTW OP I've found a 150grn fmjbt sierra hollowpoints on 45grns of Varget provides superior performance especially past 300 yards.
You'll want the shortest scope possible, trust me.

>>32263045
SAR8s are fuck all expensive as well though....
>>32262183
Yes
They just can't shoot.
>>32261537
>>32263905
This
The scope has to be pretty short if you wanna lock the handle back
I got my Nikon Prostaff 7 4-12x42 from Cabela's for $299. I put it on a Burris PEPR QR that I got from Jet for $74.
The gunsmith that lapped and leveled my scope said that Burris is one of the best mounts he'd come across in a while. He said he hardly had to lap the thing at all because it was almost dead smooth right out of the box.
>>32262082
The only parts PTR make for Century are the barrel and receiver. Everything else is old, fucky CETME kits put together by century.
>>32264664
It doesn't have to be that short. Besides; it's a battle rifle not a sniper's rifle. It's good for hitting man-sized targets out to 800 yards and you don't need YUUUGE glass for that.
>>32261537
Jesus fucking cunt, what happened to this board?
