Your Humvee/BMP/enclosed vehicle ride will probably be a lot less comfortable if you're tall. You might be able to straight-up unable to fit into a plane or tank as well. It depends.
If I remember correctly, Soviet tanks were quite literally designed to be operated by manlets and manlets only. Don't quote that, though.

Bantam Thread?

>An unhappy sergeant major in the Northumberland Fusiliers complained: "Sir, them bloody little dwarfs have built up the fire steps so they could see over. Now when my lads stand up, half their bodies are above the parapet." The Bantams were told to put two sandbags on the step instead.

>>32255976
>"Their quarrelsome reputation was legendary," wrote Sidney Allinson in his book The Bantams. After frequent bar brawls they became known around Glasgow as the Devil Dwarfs.

>In William Boyd's 1987 novel The New Confessions, the protagonist, John James Todd describes an encounter during WW1 with the Bantams: "We came out of the fire-bay. Five very small men - very small men indeed - sat around a tommy-cooker brewing tea. They looked at us with candid hostility. They wore kilts covered with canvas aprons. Their faces were black with mud, grime and a five-day growth of beard. Two of them stood up. The tops of their heads came up to my chest. Neither of them could have been more than five feet tall. Bantams…"

So lets put butthurt idiots aside and get back to the topic: what are effects of a height in modern combat? Well, apart from obvious things like smaller frame being less noticeable and harder to hit/bigger hand reaching range of tall people.
>>
>>32257471
You eat less, take less material to dress in camo and take way less fuel to deploy. You are more economical in any way imaginable.
>>
>>32256109
>sexual selection

Only the predominant form of selection in peacetime with an excess of resources

Which, unfortunately for burger manlets, is pretty much always
>>
>>32257607
What about stuff like heat signature? Are small-framed soldiers more noticeable on FLIRs because tighter body composition causing lower heat dissipation? Just a guess.
>>
>>32257676
IDK. Less height=less body mass=less heat dissipated because less heat produced?
>>
>>32257676
I know my hungry skeleton body has shit circulation, so any heat will gather in my chest and head.
>>
It feels like everyone are ignoring the obvious thing here. 99% of the time soldiers are not going to be in a firefight, and taller soldiers have an advantage in marching faster. So i hate to shit on the manlet internet defense force but taller soldiers move faster and are therefore they can secure objectives faster than the little manlets who get stuck with their stumpy little legs 10 miles back.
>>
>>32256047

Just because it's a stereotype doesn't mean it's not true.
>>
>>32255821

With regards to infantry engagements, height--or lack thereof--will not in itself be an advantage. However, the mass of a combatant can make a difference.

Especially if we're considering only those that would be considered in "good" physical condition, being taller/larger WILL affect that person's basal metabolic rate. This means that they are slightly more logistically taxing than their smaller peers.

However, one of the stereotypical advantages of being large is that you're more likely to handle heavier weapons easily. GPMGs like the M240 and PKM are both heavy and awkward to use. A person that is taller will have a larger frame and will thus have an easier time carrying and wielding a MG because it is relatively lighter and smaller to them than it is to the average person.

Holy heck this is a real thing! The anecdotes are pure hilarity. A true tale of manlet rage unleashed.
>>
>>32258657
>The first bantam battalions were recruited in Birkenhead, Cheshire, after Alfred Bigland, MP, heard of a group of miners who, rejected from every recruiting office, had made their way to the town. One of the miners, rejected on account of his size, offered to fight any man there as proof of his suitability as a soldier, and six men were eventually called upon to remove him. Bantam applicants were men used to physical hard work, and Bigland was so incensed at what he saw as the needless rejection of spirited healthy men that he petitioned the War Office for permission to establish an undersized fighting unit.

>short of stature
>bearded miners

Never doubt that Dwarves are real.
>>
>>32258629
>GPMGs like the M240 and PKM are both heavy and awkward to use.

True story: When I was an Airborne infantryman, most of the Machine Gunners were either true alpha height (I'm 6'4", and another one was like 6'6"), or angry manlets. Tall guys could jump larger weapons case more easily, but the small guys seemed to do pretty well. There just weren't just as many of them.

Also, during Division review in the 82nd, all the tallest dudes are put up front, and they all carry MGs, whether there actual squad position is as a machine gunner or not.

Like in most things in life it is best to be around average.

Most equipment is designed with you in mind, easier to find equipment that fits well, easier to find replacement gear when shit breaks, military vehicles are designed with you in mind and blend in better which helps you avoid shitty tasks.

And outside combat.

Easier to find clothes and other products. All vehicles, public spaces, buildings are designed for you. You goods are cheaper as they are produced in higher quantities, you can always find something that fits you in a store. No need for custom anything.
>>
>>32259401
There is some truth in this. Manlets can excel in push up and pull ups due to leverage. They do max out faster, and bigger generally equals stronger, all else being equal.
>>
>>32259688
If you're tall as fuk or short as fuk your clothing will be mint condition tho, all average-size equipment is used to hell
>>
>>32259769
Maybe in the US where you can just buy humongous amounts of shit for no other reason than "lol why the fug not".

In my experience as a conscript if you had weird proportions you were basically fucked until they scrounged up some ancient boots for you.

Average equipment might have been a bit worn but it got replaced instantly if it broke.

Also if you were tall and a panzer pioneer your existence would be pure hell inside any troop transport. Hyper manlets had other problem.

Between 5'9", and 6'4" is pretty normal for most men. If you are above or below that its because you are a freak and its part of your familys genetics.
>>
>>32261110
Any vehicle crewman jobs are tough on tall guys, all the dudes over 6'1 in tracks who have been in long enough to have been on deployment have a distinctive hunch from having to run around in the track while in the water or combat locked
>>
>>32256059
...tall people make better pilots. I design aircraft for a living -> taller person = more vision in a fighter
For other aircraft height isn't a problem as nowadays cockpits are designed for 5 percentile to 95 percentile pilots (4'11" and 6'3" in Canada, idk about anywhere else)

>>
>>32260763
Average male height in the US is 5'8", average height for non-hispanic white male is 5'10".

Average height for non-hispanic white in states that border Canada is 6'1".

And every generation is taller.

I'm 5'8", and a non-hispanic white, in a state that borders Canada. I am shorter than at least 70% of my peers, and probably 80% of 18 year olds.

My father is 6'1", but he fell for the short girl (5'1") meme. I got her legs, but his torso and arms. I feel like a gorilla some times.
>>
>>32261477
No, because all of the controls would be out of reach for a shorter pilot.
>>
>>32261326
>be 6'3
>too tall to become fighter pilot
>too tall to drive tanks
>>
>>32261477
You'd have to make every control move to accommodate this. Which basically means every surface in the cockpit because aircraft have a gorillion controls.

And doing all that would add cost, complexity, and weight. Which you aren't supposed to do without good reason, and that shit aint good reason.

Why do manlets even want to fly fighters? The ejection seats are way more likely to kill a manlet than a normal sized man.
>>
>>32261570
It's literally 5'4" to 6"4 how short are the people applying?
>>
>>32261562
Honestly in the aircraft that I designed (still in the conceptual phase) being taller than 6'3" isn't a problem, and isn't in most aircraft either. Someone as tall as 6'8" can fit in most cockpits if they slouch. Usually 6" is reserved for space between the top of the pilot's head and the bottom of the glass. Keep in mind that a helmet has to occupy this space as well

Nope, the first guy was right. In 1863 you had to wait for the horses to draw the cannons that were slowing down the whole army. On the battlefield, you were expected to keep a pace.

If you're taller, might be you can peek or vault over places the homunculi cannot, and longer stride means they can potentially move faster.
Likewise, those who are vertically challenged might find it easier to squirm through small holes, or hide in more creative places, while a taller person is kinda limited to hiding in the chimney.
Not gonna lie, it seems like the military is the perfect place for stubby fellers.

What the fuck? What fucking Skellybones made this? The US average height it 5'10, the average women's height is 5'4. The "perfect" body type fucking towers over the average girl in the non-intimidating way, like the "hey there Stretch Armstrong looking fag" way

Vehicle crew only, their short legs would make marching and climbing even more difficult

>Elves
High mobility but more delicate and difficult to replace means specialized roles like scout snipers. Better to use them to keep up morale.
