Can we get a boot thread /k/? I currently own a pair of Merrells for innawoods activities, but the wife is looking to get me a pair that can be worn out as well. Are there any brands/models you all would recommend that are comfortable yet /fa/shionable?

Also, general boot thread.

I wear pic related. They're repro US roughout boots. They take a long time to break in, but are very nice quality, tough, and are pretty /fa/. Your SO would approve.

Love Merrell Moabs and my red wing iron rangers come in the mail tomorrow.
>>
I have the same MOAB mids and they are really only suited for dry weather. Morning dew or wet environment = soaked to the skin. Granted, that's what they are made for, but still pretty limiting.

Maybe some beeswax or other treatment would work well enough.

Thinking of trying out some Keens next.

MOAB waterproof mids are the one thing I asked for this Christmas from my parents, and a TLR-1 but I doubt I'll get it. I hope they last as long as you memelords claim because when I tried them on they felt amazing. And being on my feet 10 hours a day leads me to believe they'll wear out pretty quick.

Wolverine 1000 mile boots.

Wore a pair for a photo job i had in europe. Walked about 10 miles everyday on cobblestone, hiking trails, beaches, and even spent a day walking up in the alps in the snow. To accomplish this i had a cobbler attach a commando sole to replace the leather outsole. And used oil and wax on days i knew i would be roughing it. On normal days i would either clean them with a wet rag or wet wipe, followed by some hand lotion to even out the color/remove scratches and scuffs.

I was wearing upper tier business casual for the most part during that trip, with the occasional suit and tie formal attire.

These boots have lasted 3 years now without a scratch and are perfectly molded to my feet. I never got blisters or calluses in them so i never bothered to add an insole. I have wide flat feet, so having an insole is usually a must, but not in these boots. These are my all purpose boots that i wear for every occasion. The only times i dont wear them are when i have to wear shorts or i have to walk on rough gravel. I have garmont t8s for the rough terrain.

I highly recommend this brand of boot if you want to classy up your footwear, just be sure to always match dress shoe color to belt color.

I used to walk about 5 miles a day at work (had one of those treadmill desks and put it to good use because I was fat, so I stood most of my shift and walked a couple hours each day). My Moabs would last about a year before the soles were worn flat and the arch support would start to collapse.

I still wear Moabs. Damn good shoes for the price, but not so expensive that I cringe at the thought of replacing them. My only complaint is that they're not especially well ventilated, especially the waterproof models.

Are there any boot brands I should stay away from?
Or a boot quality chart of some kind
>>
>>32249542
I would start by looking up ankle high boots made with a good sole like vibram, the options are endless.
Danner crater rims are what we issued in aftrashastan, they have some style and are good enough that the army uses them, maybe check them out op.
Personally im looking into getting a pair of ariat boots...

High quality boots, best choice ITT.

>>32250039
Quality shoes, but they'll suffer in the wet.

>>32253532
Surprisingly reliable boots for a trend mark. The soles are fragile though.

Secutity boots like pic related are the best choice, I'm talking by experience.

The outsole and uppers last pretty well, the insole they come with will only last about 4 months though. Midsole seems to be holding up fine.

I've got a pair of the waterproof mids, I bought them for hiking but ended up wearing them at my retail job because I needed the arch support and cushioning. They've lasted over 2 years without noticeable tread wear and I walk 6-7 miles a shift on average just running around the store.

Some things I don't like about them though:
>they are the only shoes I've ever owned where my feet FUCKING STINK after a few hours in them
Not sure what the fucking deal is, I've had waterproof boots I've worn all day before without any issues.
>the uppers are about as cactus-resistant as wet crepe paper
Found that out on my antelope hunt in October. Cactus spines went right through the sides. Not sure why I was really surprised though, they're mesh. Chalk that one up to me being an idiot I guess.
>the factory insoles are pretty low quality. Comfortable, but break down really fast
I got less than 4 months of daily wear out of the original insoles. Currently on the first replacement, a set of Sofsole replacements. They're good while being cheap.
>>
>>32253903
I wrote SO because I didn't remember if OP wrote wife or gf.

>>32254572
>suffer in the wet

I prefer unlined boots because every boother I've had with a "waterproof" liner has failed me, and will take what feels like years to dry. I'll stick with beeswax instead.
>>

>>32254585

I would have bought some if they didn't have the EGA on them.
>>
>>32254830
Same reason most military boots do:
>inflexible
>no padding
>pretty crappy ankle support despite being an 8" boot
>neither waterproof nor breathable
>soles wear out super fast compared to something with a vibram outsole

That pic is shitty enough I can't tell if that's the one that's supposed to have goretex in it or not. But either way--Goretex is great for civilians, who have the luxury of being able to properly wash it every once in a while. It's pretty crappy for the military. Goretex stops being both waterproof and breathable when dirty, and requires a specialty liquid detergent to restore both.
>>
>>32254830
These are badly made, overpriced, the plastic along your acheles will shatter and scrape the fuck out of you, dont handle water well and take forever to dry, the layers of the sole come apart in a month. Also the laces that come with them break almost immediately so you need to replace them.
Get Bates, they're sturdier. Not Bates Lights or whatever, those soles are too soft and tend to split or wear down too fast (but they're great for the CFT if thats all you use the bates lights for)

you dont use a handgun to shoot at a rifle range, why do you think hiking boots should be worn to the opera?

buy a pair of black and brown marbled dress shoes and quit being a stubborn fashionless faggot
>>
>>32255157
I've had Danner Striker torrents for 4 years and I've never had to clean the Goretex liner... Actually I've never heard of anyone having too do that for boots.

I have a set of Arcteryx Bora mid GTX for civilian boots that I found half price. Awesome concept, the break in time is ridiculous and the insole is shy.

>I prefer unlined boots because every boother I've had with a "waterproof" liner has failed me, and will take what feels like years to dry. I'll stick with beeswax instead.
You're right. Leather boots greased (or waxed) are still better than any modern tech.
"waterproof" doesn't exist when you walk 2 hours under a constant rain unless you wear a sailor gear (pic).
But if it's just about morning dew or stream crossing, proper boots are all you need.

I've been wearing Belleville 390 Des for 3 years and now I'm looking forward something new for Daily wear. Anyone have suggestions? I already have 2 pairs of winter boots so I need something for the other 9 months. I was looking at jalas fantom but I'm concerned they would be too hot in the summer. Any suggestions? Pic unrelated.
