A small European fleet had no competition outside Europe, especially after ~1680 or so with the decline of the Ottomans.

That might be a ugly helmet but when I think about it objectively it's probably a pretty good design, flares out so you got room to throw on a headset or something like ear cans. high back the flares out so you can look upward and turn your head around easily. fit around a gas mask or something with a lot of room. slopes and stuff so it could deflect things fairly decent with a flare outward at the bottom. I'm convinced this must be a decent helmet design as long as it uses decent material construction.

What a lot of people don't realise about britain in ww2 is that they practically conscripted everyone. Even women.
Some units in 1940 just had armbands and spears.

Mind you by 1944 they were getting denison smocks, commando webbing, leather and fur body warmers and Australian and Canadian pattern uniforms.

Also everyone's favourite short short wearing rhodie uniforms are essentially british uniforms
