Hoppes for especially dirty bores.

CLP for all other cleaning.

[optional] Whatever gun oil you like for the finish.

Are you just comparing them as cleaners? Because Hoppe's 9 is neither a L or a P. And CLP's are generally pretty shit at everything. They're only useful if you're in the field and don't want to carry multiple bottles of shit. Otherwise, if you're at home, there is literally no excuse not to use a specific cleaner for carbon, lead and copper if necessary, and a lubricant, and a preservative.
>>
I personally use 9 for really dirty stuff (steel cased ammo or corrosive) then ballistol after it for LP

Ballistol only for not too dirty non corrosive stuff

Wow! Excellent find there anon. You managed to save a whole $.06 per ounce going with motor oil. That brings the grand total savings of just under a dollar!

Well worth going with that over an oil chemically engineered for that express purpose
>>
>>32251241
Not the guy you're replying to, but the oils and solvents are mostly the same fucknut. Stop being a one man argument for eugenics.

If ballistol was good enough for the Waffen SS it's good enough for me.
>>
i have Hoppes 9, Shooters Choice, and CLP. Who makes the best dedicated protectant?

Or is CLP a good enough protectant?
>>

> Motormaster

Mmmmmmmmmm....KAY.

Or that.
>>
>>32247647

> Spit & blood

He asked for CLP, not jerk sauce.
>>
>>32251387

There's a special jelly from Kentucky- it comes in a tube- that's really slippery and water soluble. I think it's non-toxic in quantities smaller than you can drown in.

It's great stuff.

Not worth a fuck for guns, but it's great stuff.

What were we talking about?
>>
>>32247627
Coconut oil
>>
>>32246120
I just use CLP. There's probably something better out there but at the end of the day it's a $10 bottle of solvent you'll probably use once or twice a month. None of my guns have any rust problems except by Benelli but it swam in saltwater three times so that's expected.
>>
>>32246120
CLP is kind of mediocre for cleaning, its more of a short lasting lubricant. hoppes 9 is best of those 3 for cleaning powder and copper fouling. ballistol has the same problem as CLP. its nice for oiling/lubing afterwards, not really a strong solvent
>>
>>32251341
it existed back then?
>>
How do you clean your gun?
>>
WD40 for smokeless gunz

Ballistol for black
>>
>>32253524
yes it was invented by a german for the military in WW1
>>
>>32246779
Seconded.
>>
>>32246120
I use Hoppes 9 for bores and CLP for everything else, never bought Ballistol before though.
>>
>>32253545
damn i had no idea it was that old. badass. did it always smell like licorice?
>>
>>32247627
Slip2000 EWL 30
>>
>>32246120
Ballistol for smokeless (it cleans if you just let it soak for the amount of time to step out for a smoke).

'Hogwash' (mixture of water and soluble cutting fluid) for blackpowder.
>>
>>32249779
This. Slicker than typical mineral oil based gun oils and rated food safe. 40 bucks for a gallon which should last at least three lifetimes. I also use the Lubriplate SFL grease recommended in the Grant Cunningham article, and it works as well as TW-25B but far cheaper because you get a whole cartridge for the same price.
>>
>>32251314
I know it's mostly the same. But the price difference is so negligible there's really no point going for a fuckhuge bottle of motor oil. I'm rich by no means but I'm not sweating an extra $1.05 for what is ultimately more convenient anyway
>>
>>32247627
Bad dragon lube is the only thing I trust to lube up my guns
>>
I'm all about that Ed's Red. Made a gallon back in the spring and it's been working great. Instead of melting down anhydrous lanolin solid I used lanolin oil instead, which is double good because the leftover is most excellent for chapped hands and dry skin.
>>
>>32246120
10w-30 and hoppes 9 for everything.
>>
Eezox after a hoppes no9 cleaning
>>
>>32247627
butter.

Ballistol. Motor oil does not belong on firearms, but ATF is the only type worth using.
>>
>>32246779
If you want an oil that has a higher steel wear rate than any other oil
