Legacy hornets are insanely overflown right now. Was talking to a Marine maintainer who is a friend of mine, the hornets they employ have so many hours that based off their history, certain hornets are only cleared to fly certain missions and configurations. They desperately need the F-35B, or really any other new fresh jet.
>>
>>32250474
Cuz they're cucks, lookst germany
>>
>>32250523
this, there's a reason the Marines got first pick with the F-35.
>>
I'm not a burger but I'd like to know why the USMC has so much old equipment compared to the other branches of the US armed forces?
>>
>>32250654
The Marines gets it money from the Navy budget and the navy is far more interested in buying ships for itself then stuff for the Marines.

>Legacy Hornet

Well there's your problem, it's probably as old as Canadian Hornets.

So what's the difference between a Legacy Hornet, Regular Hornet, Canadian Hornet and Super Hornet? Aren't they all literally the same plane?
>>
>>32251495
there's a super hornet and a regular hornet. the super hornet is larger and newer. they look the same but are much different technical-wise.

the canadians have the regular hornet, also known as the F/A-18 or "legacy" hornet.

The super hornet is the F/A-18E or F/A-18F, sometimes listed as F/A-18E/F.

in picture super hornet is left, regular is right.
>>
>>32251495
Legacy Hornet = Regular Hornet = Canadian Hornet.

The Canadian ones tend to be in better shape because they're newer and don't fly carrier ops. (Which are very hard on airframes, with tons of takeoff and landing Gs, hard deck impacts, salty air that causes corrosion, etc.)

The Rhino (Super Hornet), on the other hand, is basically an entirely new airplane that is shaped like an original Hornet. IIRC only like 20% of parts are shared between the Rhino and Hornet. Why exactly they did things that way is sort of unclear - if you're the charitable type, it's because it made sense to upgrade a proven design and avoid having to redesign a few parts and totally retrain air and ground crews, if you're the cynical type it's because it was easier to slip a new plane into the budget by "tricking" congress into thinking it was "just an upgrade."

Has anybody else ever noticed how much the Rhino looks like a Flanker from underneath?

I know they don't actually have much in common but it's still an interesting coincidence.

My new boss uses to do mantience on f18s.
Said they would sue quick set Car Body filler on any gaps in the pannels and leading edges.

They need f35s already.

Yeah but the Russians lost 2 carreir planes in a month, thats much more pathetic

>the canadians have the regular hornet, also known as the F/A-18 or "legacy" hornet.
It's a CF18. Note the C.
It is not referred to as a legacy hornet because current technology is not classified as legacy.
>>
>>32252770
A CF-18A/B when delivered was almost identical to a F/A-18A/B, and now roughly a F/A-18C/D. Both of which are 'legacy'.
The F/A-18E/F/G are completely different aircraft.
