I still don't have it back and at this point I've come to the grim realization I won't be getting it back.

When IA gets to you, explain that the PD somehow lost your bag in a few hours time and that you want to know how it happened. At least you could get answers that way. That must've been a context menu option added by the driver you used for your network card. I've never used anything but the basic (bloatware free) driver, so I've always opened the Networking under the Control Panel. Today I just use the hardware switch on my laptop, or click the networking icon in the system tray to get into Network and Sharing center. In both cases, I'm never switching often enough for the few extra clicks to make much of a difference.
