Hello /k/, I'm interested in buying an FAL but I'm not exactly sure what is an acceptable amount to pay for one? How much is too much? What is typically a good deal for one? Which company should I look out for?
>inbf4 just get an AR
>inbf4 just get a CETME
>>
Paid 1,800 for my dsa 18" para, all said and done. Probably too much, buy it was my one "panic buy". Fucking love the rifle though.
>>
>>32245295
Atlantic Firearms usually have good prices on DSA FALs. Oterwise, you can make an account on the FNFiles and wait for someone there to put theirs up for sale.

Avoid Enterprise, Century, and Hesse imported FALs.
>>
>>32245295
i saw an imbel for 1200 the other day, private party
>>
>>32245295
Don't buy a century, they are L1A1 parts kits glued to a FAL lower (imbel). Parts and mags are a bitch because of it.

FULL metric build, or don't buy it.
>>
>>32245610
So what would you say is the right price for a good FAL, $1200 to $1500 or so?
>>
>>32246058
Depends on what you want. Para or standard? Barrel length?
>>
>>32246506
Not op but also interested, whats the difference?
>>
>>32247088
Para and shorter barrels are generally more expensive. Also, DSA makes two lines of FALs. Their regular SA58s and the Voyager series. The voyagers are meant to be entry level rifles, cheaper and with forged receivers.
>>
>>32247275
Ya fucked that one up
>voyager
>forged anything

FAL was cool as fuck 20yrs ago

Correction, cast receiver.
>>
>>32245841
inch guns can use metric mags, faglord
>>
>>32247445
Fuck off Andy
Hows the cuck shed out front
>>
OK what the fuck is exactly the difference between cast and forged? how the fuck does one 'forge' a receiver?
>>
>>32249705
forged in this sense is not the same as in AR receivers

It means its machined from raw stock as opposed to a casting process
>>
>>32249720
so its just milled?
>>
>>32249734
and lathed where it needs to be, yeah

A cast receiver needs all that too, it just doesn't need as much material milled away

forged takes more time and tool life, but its arguably stronger

That said, DSAs casts are fine, so there's really no difference
>>
>>32249745
huh wonder why not just call it milled then. thanks anon, that was bugging me for the longest time

yeah as long as the company can actually work with the metal and/or heat treat there shouldnt be any problems with cast anything. when they suck at it, is when they start blaming things on zip lock bags

>huh wonder why not just call it milled then.

because it also has to be turned and threaded on a lathe
>>
>>32249908
>you cant thread something without a lathe
>you cant cnc or mill on a lathe
>you dont own a lathed billet ar lower
>>
If I'm in Commiefornia, can I purchase a decent FAL, or will it have to be fucked?
Someone said I just needed a bullet button and it had to have at least X US-made parts, so DSA should be fine then yeah?
>>
>>32251448
>>32251448

You're a dumbass.
>>
>>32251489
I don't disagree, but would you care to explain why?
>>
>>32246058
I dropped 900 on an Imbel receiver Century.
>hurr hurr Century
Apparently their FALs were fine. The ones on Imbel receivers, at least.
