A 300kt nuclear device has just gone off in the city closest to you.
How fucked are you?
If you do survive, what's your next step?
Have you taken any precautions already?
Pic related is me.
I would avoid the terminal radiation and the air blast, but fallout is a different story
>How fucked are you
I would still be alive but gamma and beta rays might have different plans
>what's your next step
Honestly, no idea
>Have you taken and precautions
No. I have a winter coat, but that's about it
If the target is the little PoS 5000 people town i live in its gone with the blastwave for me.
However if it is the closest real city of any strategic or tactical importance i am good, way outside the radiation, blast and thermal zones.
Also i live in a heavy concrete apartment complex with a civil defense bunker in the basement, complete with overpressure protection and filtration system.

OP said city, that means major population center, not 5k or 50k or even 100k people... half a million people plus
>>32243997
St. Louis is over 80 miles away as the crow flies.
Beyond that it depends on which direction the wind is blowing, if its blowing from the southwest thats fine, but if its blowing from the northwest we'll get black rain.
EMP will probably kill all the electronics though even at that distance, so kinda fucked here because of that.
>>32244091
gamma rays dont travel for shit, if its a small device and you're close enough for the shockwave to bust you up then you're also close enough to get REM'd
but 300kt is strong enough if you were close enough to get sickened by the gamma then the Thermal is also going to fry you like a chicken and the shockwave is going to flatten the building on top of you.
> Nuclear Fallout is the radiation danger, the shit going up in the mushroom cloud, because that stuff will stay in the soil for awhile when it comes down. It gets in your body and then you're poisoned long term.

Well, that leaves out almost every city except the capital and a few others here in Sweden.
Plenty of tactical and strategic targets in and around smaller cities and towns though.

SKS on standby and innawoods scouted and ready.

Not OP, but here

I don't think there's a single strategic target in Maine.
Maybe the Bath Ironworks? The military uses the Bangor airport a lot I guess. I don't think I would know about a blast until I saw it on the news.
I live in a village of 350 people, and deep in the woods compared to most of the other fucks here.

Can you stop pretending to be me please
Seriously guys this is getting out of hand
>>32243997
Well I live right next to Sheffield in the UK
We threads now
>>32243997
I'm quite dead at that point
>>32243997
i'm dead as i'm in an attic room 50' above the ground 1.9 miles from the city centre. I catch the end of the fireball.
I'd be in the thermal radiation radius. so my apartment is probably on fire/leveled and I've sustained 3rd degree burns or death. all local hospitals would've been taken by the blast so it' choosing between instant death or suffering for a few hours
if there's any heads up prior to detonation, I'm probably just dying in my car while stuck in traffic rather than my apartment
>>32243997
I'm pretty good. It means the hellhole name Milwaukee is ash.
>>32243997
If Im at work, Ill be a shaddow burned into the ground. If Im at home I have it just comfy due to an eternal wind blowing north east towards the nuked city.
Pittsburgh got shwacked. I would probably have to construct a fallout shelter if the wind is blowing my way but otherwise would be alright. I have a dead tree copy of Nuclear War Survival Skills, a Geiger Counter and adequate supplies of food and water.
My only regret is that I don't live closer to Philly.
>>32243997
I'm pretty fucked right now
>>32243997
not fucked at all
dunno
nope
>>32243997
>How fucked are you?
I'm withing air blast radius in a commie block. You tell me.

Charlotte lads represent
>>32245231
I thought there were a couple of sub bases in Maine
>>32243997
Washington DC is gone, but I'm far enough away to avoid being immediately fucked.
Probably load all the bug-in stuff I keep into my Subaru and take the back roads towards the mountains.
I keep a fair supply of stuff around in case of bad snow/ice, huge coastal storms, and the happening. Not super prepared for a nuclear event though.
>>32246617
>Not super prepared for a nuclear event though.
without a military tier gas mask and lots of filters nobody is prepared for a nuclear event at all.
>>32243997
Pretty fucked
>>32243997
It's 200 miles away. I'd be fine.
>>32243997
>300kt
baby nuke, but most of the city would still be vaporized.
anyone who isn't at ground zero should be fine until rad sickness sets in.
>>32246654
Fun fact: No matter how many filters you have, or how good your seal is, a gas mask won't stop gamma radiation.
>>32246934
>Fun fact: No matter how many filters you have, or how good your seal is, a gas mask won't stop gamma radiation.
it will stop you from beathing in radioactive particles though. and that's the main point.
While I'll probably survive the fireball, I'm completely fucked from the radiation and probably now extra crispy because my window faces the centre.
I won't survive so I'll dust off the bottle of 15yr cider brandy and, once that's gone, make a Long Island Iced Tea in the washing up bowl which I'll drink with a crazy straw (should be enough alcohol to kill me if I use the overproof vodka and rum).
>>32243997
I live near the energy corridor of one of the three biggest cities in my state, it honestly depends which side of town it hits. So 50/50 I'm screwed or have a chance of hunkering down while the ash settles before venturing out.
>>32246934
you can survive gamma but if you breath in radioactive particles you are sure to die.
>>32243997
I'm good.
>mfw The Day After is reality.
I live in the same area.
And not much of value was lost
>>32244564
I had to be generous and go with 300k. Still think I am doing pretty OK up here in the yellow box.
