Moving from MI to NC soon, Charlotte area in particular. What can I expect for gun laws? In MI we have handgun registry and silly overall length laws (no folding AKs, SCARs, etc).
How good is NC?
pic unrelated
u have to have a permit to buy a pistol (ccw or ppp) otherwise it's unrestricted
I lived in charlotte for 2 years, live a little north towards kannapolis now

to buy a handgun from a dealer I need a PPP? MI makes the registry slip for you at the dealer when you buy it, why would NC be so backwards?

>Overall length
Wrong.
>>32244381
Hows that
>>32244416
Firstly, it hasn't been law since 2010. Secondly, when it was law it wasn't the way you said it. Anything under 30in overall length was considered a pistol. That's it.

My bad, 2012.
>>32244435
Got a source on that? And how does "silly overall length laws" not fall directly under what you just said?

Fucking living here for 30 years.

>no folding AKs, SCARs, etc).
Yeah, no. You can, and always could, buy those in MI. They were just considered pistols until 2012.

The past 3 gunshops I went to wouldn't stock them, I asked.. even when I did bring up the pistol thing they had no clue what I was talking about.
Firing line, Cabelas (Dundee), cant remember the last one..

I recently moved from NY to NC.
Become a resident and get a PPP (pistol purchase permit) from your local sheriff. Apply online and it takes a couple days to come in the mail and costs 5 bucks. Then you can legally buy a handgun and open cary without a CCW.
CCW takes a couple months and there is no background check for private sales of rifles.
It's not too bad.

Sounds like you should go to a real gun shop.
>>32244152
Yes. To purchase a pistol from a dealer in NC you either have to get a permit from your county sheriff (one for each pistol) or have a CCW. Lots of gun shops, ranges, and instructors in Charlotte. I like Hyatt Guns.

This is true. Being in NC for a long time and never filing for my CCW I am in the gray area. I brought several handguns from private parties and this is legal as long as you don't conceal it.

Got any names? I generally go to Johnsons in Adrian since im buddies with the gunsmiths

I live in Kalamazoo. On Target has everything.
I'm originally from VA and moved down in February but other than the Pistol Purchase Permit, it's not pretty good here even in the Outer Banks (pic related). I am also told if you have a CCW permit you don't need a PPP.

correction *its pretty good here*

You can open carry without a permit if you're into that. If you have your ccw and you get drunk you can't cc but you can oc. Don't get in trouble wearing your plate carrier, NC only has one body armor law and it's you can't break a law wearing it.
