if you're within arms reach and got at least some skills you can grab his gun and defuse the situation. if you're a good 10yd away and your opponent keeps his cool, just hope he doesn't hit something vital before you get some solid cover between you. if you're a good 10yd away and your opponent is an inexperienced retard shaking with adrenaline you can easily make 3 steps and bring him down before his finger makes it into the trigger guard.

If you are within arms reach when the fight breaks out you'll probably win due to maneuverability and the size of the wounds inflicted. Otherwise when the element of surprise is removed a gun is obviously a far superior weapon.
