Any books /k/ related. Weapons, war and politics etc. Everything is welcome

Also, can anyone recommend a good book about Rhodesia? Aimed more at the politics of it.

I have this book, and five other books on Rhodesia.

Loved all of them but one that was apparently written for cucks by cucks, it tried to paint the white man as evil racist invaders who got BTFO but even then... the operating parts were too good that it still made them look like heroes.

I'm trying to find actual non-cucked books on rhodesia.

Read the autobiographies of the guys down there in the ground, if you're going to read a little college lib hippie nerds interpretation, you will be dissapointed.

OPs pic related is an uncucked book
>>
I read Buzzati's "The Tartar Steppe" recently, it's good. Not much operating, but that's pretty much the point. It's litterally "peacetime military : the book" but it hits you with some heavy feels.
>>
>>32225135
Yes.

I got this the other day:

It's basically a Choose Your Own Adventure book for 2LT's. There's also an Infantry platoon one.

I would recommend War Dog by Al Venter. It's a good overview with a heavy focus on EO and the helicopter dudes in sierra leone.
Some pretty hard dudes there.
I also read his biography of Neal Ellis but it didn't really contain much War Dog didn't.

Mike Hoare's book about his work in the Congo are also good. His book about the botched coup in the seychelles is not really as good but most of that is about being in prison.

The premise is that old people on Earth are told that they can be young again if they enlist in the Colonial Defense Force.
Pretty much every old person does because they want to keep living. But then they find out that the galaxy is pretty much a shitshow. Every colony Earth has, has been taken forcefully from another species with their colonists genocided in order for humans to live there.

The first two books are pretty fucking /k/
The other ones are still good but they begin to get pretty liberal

The communist piece of hypocritical trash can go suck a dick. Though knowing him, he'd probably enjoy it and write a Hugo winning story about the whole thing.

How about Dead Six? A couple of operators operating operationally in an operational environment. Helps that one of the authors is a Contractor and the other was a fun store owner.

>>
>>32225045
Croukamp's book is not bad, especially if you are interested in the cross border raids and Selous Scout shenanigans in sneaking into enemy camps and conducting psyops and false flags.

Also gives you a taste of what Rhodesia was like to live in as a bit of misfit who needed a war to really shine.
>>
>>32227366
Not just talking about his books. Ever read his social media. The guy's so liberal he'd make Fenstein look moderate.
>>
>>32227131
The Fear was ok, though depressing.
>>
I reread Ian Douglass's Heritage Trilogy a few months ago. I remember thinking that it was the coolest thing ever back when I was 15. Now it just seems to be generic space marines with a little too much emphasis on the marine part.

Anyone else have those books they used to love but don't hold up?

Yeah. It's been years since I read the Rogue Squadron books or Republic Commandos. I wonder how they'd hold up today.

I did reread the Thrawn Trilogy before Episode 7: A New New Hope came out and it was about how I remembered. Definitely better than the movie we got.

>Fuck the liberals that think it advocates fascism
It does though. Go read up on actual capital-F Fascism and tell me the society depicted in this novel doesn't check those boxes.

Even Heinlein himself later walked back on the ideas he put forward in Starship Troopers and that guy was nuts.

Not even kind of a liberal btw

not him, but it's a /pol/ recommended book for a reason
it definitely conveys many aspects of the fascist worldview, especially in scenes like the History and Moral Philosophy class (Dubois' monologue)

one of my favorite books, for sure

If you're still interested in the topic of post-Rhodesia, post-apartheid mercenaries, this book was pretty good... even though it was written by a cowardly journalist.

Lots of graphic violence, fairly well-written, reads pretty easy.

Plus you've got that traditional rebels-v-government storyline in the background

To this date, the idea of fascism is still vague as hell, but I would say even actual fascist society (i.e. classical Rome and Italy) did not have the whole you can only vote if you serve thing.

fascism is more of a worldview imo, rather than a specific political structure

Fascism is a literal political ideology with a bunch of key characteristics. The assumption that it's "vague" is liberal doublespeak and its gradual shift to mean "political ideology I don't agree with"

And, as an example, conditional citizenship is a key characteristic of Fascist societies.

Look this shit up. The information is insanely easy to access.

As for Heinlein walking back on it, well, read his subsequent novels where he swings HARD into libertarianism and the value of the individual as paramount, which is directly counter to Starship Troopers' thesis.

Or that he just writes another book, he didn't come out and disown Starship Troopers or anything.

Those a pretty cool. I have a bunch of ww2 American field manuals, star charts, and aircraft sectionals. Nothing foreign though.

The only turkish things I have is an old Nasrettin Hoca book and some Deniz Piyade and Jandarma Komando patches.

That's a pretty piss-weak indictment. It's very common in non-fascist countries, too.

I'm guessing the crowd that gets all panicky about Starship Troopers watched the shitty movie and didn't read the book.
