Rimless is what you posted, the rim doesn't protrude from the sides. This is used in most modern cartridges because it's easier to create a magazine fed self loading weapon.

Rimmed has the rim protruding from the side. Generally this is an obsolete design but it make extraction of the empty case very reliable because the rim is so large. Common in belt fed machine guns and pre 1920's weapons.

There are other variations but they are rare.

can someone please explain the reasoning behind semi-rimmed for me? it seems like such a stupid design, like isn't the point of rimless to remove the jamming which rimmed cartridges would often exhibit if not loaded properly?
