Alright /k/ I need some help getting a scope for my AR. I am looking for one that is up to $500 max, shoots well to 200 yards, and is not too large. Any help appreciated.
>>
>>32223304
Swfa 10x hd fixed with milquad

Or

Swfa 3-9hd

Or

Swfa 5-15 ( on sale, and if you can stretch the budget)
>>
>>32223304
Best scope review site: opticsthoughts.com

200yds max means basically anything will do. Maybe the Leupold VX-R, it can get down to $500, is great glass, and very light. But go visit that site and look at options.

Fixed 10 power for an AR for up to "200 yards" ??? KEKno
>>
>>32223304
Vortex StrikeEagle 1-6X. They are $350, which leaves you money for a proper one-piece mount, which should be about $100-$150.

Nikon Glass any good?
>>
>>32223304
Go with a 3x prisim. Or a red dot and a 3x magnifier.
>>
>>32224384
no

>you recommend a fixed fucking 10x scope that is almost double the max listed price
You're a special kind of retarded aren't you?
>>
>>32224384
Glass is decent. Reticles are dumb, turrets are mushy, and they're unreasonably heavy for their intended roles.
>>
>>32224370
Actually that looks really cool...I was originally looking at plain ole cross hair reticles but I like this design. I'll keep it on my short list of research. Thanks!
>>
>>32223304
PA 1-6x or 1-8x. they are sub 400.

Glass is as nice as nikon, illumination can be seen in bright daylight, reticle is one of the best for ranging. The bdc reticle actually works with civ ammo like m193. Zero at 50yds or 100yds depending on barrel length, and it will hit on target at all designated distances.

Between the PA and the Vortex strike eagle, I went with the PA because the reticle is better. Other than the warranties, thats the only difference between the two, the reticle.
>>
>>32224454
Not buying on sale.

Good goy
>>
>>32224561
Thanks for your insight. I like how I am finding the scope for a bit cheaper. It's on my shortlist now along with the vortex strike eagle.
>>
>>32224637
Buy from primaryarms website or optics planet. I found it has the most sales on things. a few weeks ago they had a geissele sale and I bought they super awesome scopemount for 150 less than what their actual price was. Even got a trigger for 90 bucks off.

When I bought my PA 1-6 it only cost 175$ with their sale.

FYI, go with the 1-8x the extra magnification would be much better than the 1-6x. I originally was going to get a 1-4x, but then I went with the 1-6x because it was on sale and the 1-8x wasnt in stock at the time.

For a scope mount, get it from PA website or optics planet, they have the best sales.

Awesome advice. Thanks for the tip

Pic related

PA 1-6x on a geissele mount.

Ppl at the range laughed at me for putting a 200$ scope on a mount thats worth more than double. But that mount is seriously something else.
>>
>>32224768
If it works it works. That's what matters.

Nice rifle btw. The scope I am looking to get will be mounted on my DDM4V5. Pretty comfy gun. Looking to upgrade the trigger at some point but one investment at a time.
>>
>>32224827
Ya thats a DDM4V5s. 14.5in barrel.

IDK why the mount looks bronze in pic, but its like a slightly dark FDE color.
>>
>>32224906
Nice. I went with a V5 not too long ago since I wanted a DD rifle but all the V7 rifles were out of stock everywhere so I settled. Even though it's a quad rail I think it looks pretty aesthetic and it's not as heavy as I thought it would be. Going to get a V7 eventually and then use my V5 for distance shooting.
>>
>>32223304
Vortex Strike Eagle. All sorts of fun and super easy to use.

http://www.opticsplanet.com/vortex-strike-eagle-scope-1-6x24-ar-bdc-reticle.html
>>
>>32224952
I got a quad rail because it stays cooler longer than one without it. Sure it makes it slightly front heavier, but gun is 7lbs so not that heavy to begin with. Also went with mine because of it came with the front grip included and front and rear DD fixed sights. It was a package deal. Went with the 14.5in because ballistics preference.
>>
>>32224977
I think I have narrowed it down to the strike eagle and primary arms 1-6. It's a hard split but I will look at some more field reviews before I make a commitment.
>>
>>32225023
People give a lot of gripe to quad rails and weight is a consideration, but I don't think it's the deal breaker for me. They have their purpose. But once I have a V7, my V5 will complement it nicely.

I played with the PA at a 3-gun match. I ran my Vortex. The only qualm I have with the Vortex is the brightness. On a really bright day, the illumination isn't much use, but then again, on a bright day, the black stands out really well. The PA has good reticle, but I prefer the Vortex. for Quick target acquisition and transition, the larger outer ring really helps almost draw your target right into the sights. I only got to squeeze off a few rounds with the PA, but I'd say glass clarity and build quality are very similar. I don't know what batter life looks like on the PA, but I know the vortex has a spare battery under one of the caps. Saved me once already when I left my illumination on max for a few days before a shoot. Really, both are awesome choices, but my personal preference would still be the Vortex having shot with both.

Also, keep an eye out for sales. I picked mine up for $399 with free flip caps, a hat, and a PEPR mount.
>>
>>32225169
Great pic and insight. Thank you I appreciate it. Ultimately price as a package (scope and mount) will play a big thing since I am trying to get everything for under $500. Both seem like great buys. Again, most likely this rifle will see its days plinking at up to 200 yards unless I want to get ambitious.
>>
>>32225314
Glad to help out. If you want any other pics or have any other questions about the strike eagle, let me know and I'll do what I can to help.
>>
>>32225431
I do have two questions if you don't mind: How far would you say you could shoot your rifle with your scope with reasonable precision? Also, do you find value in running back up iron sights with your scope or is it an unnecessary expense?

if you can cop one of these for cheap, I got one on black friday for 499 and it was fucking awesome. Supposedly the larger diameter ones arent nearly as good quality. Hoping to push this to 800 yards at my buddies farm in a few weeks.

As far as accurate distance, I'd say 600 yards is where I'd call it. That's the limit of the BDC Reticle and with a 1-6, you're going to be fairly limited past that. The farthest I've had mine out to is 400 on 6x and it was a piece of cake to put all 30 rounds on an 8" steel plate. If you're looking to shoot farther than 600 yards, you should be looking for higher magnification which generally means a bigger scope.

I don't run BUIS on my rifle only because the scope is not battery dependent. I definitely run BUIS on my AR running a red dot because if batteries die, you're SOL until you change. With these scopes, if your battery dies, you're just left with a black reticle that's perfectly usable in any daytime application. If you're not getting a QD mount, you're also not going to find much use for BUIS. The scope will be quicker to use at 1x than it would be to remove and deploy sights.
>>
>>32225578
I appreciate the advice and insight. In your experience, what MOA would I expect from this scope at 100 yards?
>>
>>32223304
My primary arms 4-14x is dead on with 75gr bullets to 750 yards. Haven't stretched much beyond that. For $250 it's the best under $500 you'll get.
>>
>>32225768
those scopes are shit I was recommended one in a long range precision thread and I'm pretty sure the internals broke. it won't hold zero no matter what it was shooting like a 20 inch group at 100 yards from prone. My buddies did the same exact shit....
>>
>>32224370
this
>>
>>32225855
I have two fantastic ones and have pushed them pretty hard. Even after falls and dings they hold true.

The bdc on one is prefect out to 400 and the mil adjustments are dead on. Using strelok gets me first round hits to 650.

The warranty is 3 years so you could get another one.
>>
>>32225954
I'm gonna fuck with it on my ar-15, To make sure I'm not just a shit suck marksman. But man I couldn't believe how shit it was shooting at 100 yards.... would a piston ar-10 possibly break it? I feel like no?
>>
>>32225988
I doubt a piston would. My friend has the 4-14x as well on his bolt gun and it has kept his zero. He has a shitty savage axis in 308 (fell for that caliber "proven sniper" garbage) so it's not grouping smaller than 2" at 100.

I hear the PA customer support is pretty chill and replace things without too many questions.
>>
>>32226044
Second on warranty.

I told them the reticle wasnt centered correctly, on one of their cheapo scopes and they sent me a brand new one and a shipping label to send back old one.

You can probably find it for cheaper but this meets your price requirement AND is better than the Stike Eagle version. Better glass. Enjoy.
>>
>>32225768
OP here
Thanks for the advice. I added the scope to my shortlist for consideration. Overall I like the quality/price value this scope has. Definitely in the top 3 contending.
>>
>>32226326
I will keep this scope for consideration, however the price point is pushing it close with a mount included. I will be on the look out for deals but I will go with what has the best bang for the buck.
>>
>>32223304
>shoots well to 200 yards

Fucking iron sights?
>>
>>32226444
I like it. I took way too long to get mine. It was hard to find people who actually used it and the internet was full of fudds saying "if it's not expensive it's crap. My durr rifle leopuld is almost zeroed. Maybe this season I'll get it finished"
>>
Is the leupold mk6 1-6 worth the money or would a 1-4 Accupower be fine?
>>
strike eagle 1-6x or primary arms 1-6x(ACSS reticle), both are made in the same Japanese factory + american defense 30mm ring scout mount

or a primary arms 3x prism red dot with the ACSS reticle
>>
>>32226553
Seriously this. What kind of retard needs a scope for 200 yards?
