Well /k/ my armor budget for just this month is 1679.00. I've been looking at AT armor API BZ plates & velocity systems BZ style plates including custom silicon carbide hexar armor solutions. Would you trust a half inch 4 lb plate against .308 that seems to be the only threat not listed that I actually want to stop. Are their any better plates out there? I don't care who makes it I want the best 10 x12 or 10.25 x13.25 that you can find. XSAPI is too heavy and all are accounted for in reserves against odd ball future slap rds. Post good armor here. Poor fags post else where or lurk & learn.
>>
Also The difference in thickness is roughly 0.05 inches with a difference of 5% between batches.
Almost all of them are Stand Alone except for High coms more cost effective ICW that will stop .308 but requires a backer to do it. Velocity systems can stop .308 but is the most expensive plate at 1200 each.

I guess you are the poorfag then if your armour budget for this month is only $1679
>>
If that's your budget you might consider calling some of the armor companies up and asking for their product recommendation.
>>
>>32220397
Well I gotta set limits for myself m8. I think 1600.00 a month for just armor products is a good start. Used to be alot more.
>>
>>32220273
Anything similar to the hoplite deltoid armor that doesn't come out to $800 for both shoulders?
>>
>>32220273
I went with AR500 front back and sides in a Tac Tailor rig with typical MOLLE goodness for mags and medic faggotry as I am a Medifag.
Had it for about 2 years now, done some extensive rucks with it and am def leaning towards something more lightweight.
AR500 pro - unlikely to be penetrated
AR500 con - Heavy, and I'm in pretty good shape.
Good armor for defensive role ("wear this, hold this rifle/shotgun, watch this door/AoA") but need a lighter scout rig.
>>
Why can't people just make their own out of aluminum oxide?
>>
>>32220273
If you're spending $1600 a month it might be better to buy a used armored car. There are usually a few on ebay.
>>
>>32220523
Poorfags will always have IEDs- too easy to defeat vehicle armor. Better to be on foot IMO/experience
>>
>>32220273
Wtf are you doing that requires armor?
>>
>>32220465
This stuff is unreal. No idea how the owner of hoplite got 1.4 lbs per plate for m193,M855 and .308 protection so light. IF their was a 3 lb plate that stops M855,M193,308, and MSC stuff I'd buy it up.

>Why can't people just make their own out of aluminum oxide?
Literally what A Bain is doing with stealth armor systems.

High risk Security for the DC metropolitan area. The company I work for will only reimburse me for soft armor only.

Doesn't matter what OP's job is, he's wasting money on some seriously stupid shit. He just likes to carry extra weight around and play actionman to make himself feel big.

For all intents and purposes you fail to understand the purpose of this thread. Would you not wear a seatbelt when driving a car? OR wear a life vest when doing fun maritime activities such as jet skiing? The most stupid thing you could do in life, would be to invest less in yourself, than compared to your own pursuit of happiness.

I never claimed 11x14's are optimal. They are too wide to allow proper usage of a stock. Now 10.125 x13.75's make alot more sense since you can make a slightly more aggressive between a shooters & swimmer like cut up top to save a little weight and still afford lower abdominal protection from shot gun based threats. Think outside the box anon, seriously try & do your homework.

>>
>>32221141
I felt that current breakthroughs in armor would eventually lead to longer thinner plates that offer the same protection. Width is pretty much universal. If you look in the archives I said 10x13s and 10x14's could be a thing later on.

you've said "poorfag" at least 5 times in this short ass thread. Ever think about anything besides armour and socio-economic brackets? Or is your ego too wrapped up in coin of the relm to risk further exploration?

Instead of spending thousands of dollars on armor and gear you will never use, why don't you buy a gun for a close friend who can't afford one, or get Christmas presents for your family.

No matter how much your tacticool armor costs, it's worth a hell of a lot less than having someone who cares about you watch your back.

Merry Christmas.
>>
>>32221248
It's heavier than ceramic, but hardly impractical.

Kek. I bet youre a manlet too
>>
>>32220608
Just take the soft armor.
If you ever had to wear a plate carrier all day everyday with a full load and m4 you would pray for soft armor.
I take it your chances of getting hit by anything other than a ghetto blaster are slim to none I personally wouldn't get plates for that job.
>>
>>32221672
actually I have had to wear full plates & sideplates doing MOPP 4. I would not want a n individual plate to weigh more then 4.5 lbs after that.
>>
>>32221616
This
$95k annual salary in the DC area, and you're gonna call people poor. Top kek
>>
>>32220512
>>32221573
Never mind, figured out that aluminum oxide plates are a type of ceramic.
>>
>>32221758
Never said I lived in D.C just my job is in their commuting I 95 / route 1 is *great*.
>>
>>32221753
Fucking MOPP lvl 4.
Anyways find out what weapons are being used in the area. Like I said if I could get away without plates I would.
>>
>>32221802
I agree some days on shift I would just wear my IIIA backers and if I had some real shit I would go one plate up front and my mags on the left and 1 mag on the right. Worked out pretty good. But seeing plates as thin as some IIIA is tempting as all hell now.
>>
>>32221782
Doesn't matter where in the US, you're still a poorfag calling others poorerfags
>>
>>32221865
From what I have seen I would not qualify for being one.
>>
You are such a bullshitting faggot. Your job DOES NOT require armor. If you still insist that it does, post the name of your employer, if you dont, then you're a liar who just wants to believe he's a special badass.
>>
>>32221955
You unironically called yourself a richfag, then proceeded to point out that you earn a modest salary, while calling others poor.
You are the worst kind of elitist.

What city? Post it so I can call bullshit on you. I'm betting that it's "95K" if you fall into a very select group like Los Angeles where you start with 60, but if you're Asian, that's an extra 15, and if you're a good dick sucker, then it's another 5K, but that's still only 80K.

Armor is heavy.

PERIOD.

unless your dropping $1000s, your shit will be heavy.

for example, my rig:

Warrior DCS PC atacs-fg 2.5lbs
lvl iiia 10x12 plates 1.90lbs ea. x2 (3.8)
Medium esapi 5.65lbs ea. x2 (11.3)
lvl iiia 6x8 side panel .70 lbs ea x2 (1.40)
non-ballistic trauma pad 6x8 - .156 lbs ea. x2 (.312)

PC w/armor no sides - 19.31 lbs.

with water- 26.31 lbs (6.5 lbs per 100oz of water and .5 lbs for CB armorbak)

with mags- 32.51 lbs (ammo pouch .2 lbs and 6 - gi-mags @ 1 lbs ea.)

with misc items - 34.11 lbs. (approx 1.6 lbs, radio, pouch, antenna, 1 smoke with pouch)

lbs add up fast on a carrier. But if I have my shit on its becuase shit is going down I want speed.

-Plateminus v2 with BAE ballistic shoulders
15 oz
(pending ) Standalone Hexar 10.125 x14 5.7 lbs est
or 4.1 lbs standalone AT tactical STOP 9.5 x12.5

Stand alone 6x6 Hexar side plates 1.7 lbs x2

Hoplite ballistic V3 shoulders 2.9 lbs

multicam Raven IFAK 1 lb

Custom Life support 35 oz hydration neck system 2.3 lbs

3A Custom neck protection (5 oz)

gerber prodigy including sheath ( 10 oz)

5.56 lancer mags 1 lb per mag (4 total) 6 pending conditions.

belt system 5.5 lbs with pistol.( with loaded magazines)

until my shit arrives I'm estimating 25 lbs fully loaded. excluding helmet and rifle. Scary thing is my issued small IOTV would weigh just 25 lbs by itself.

I do bank security with G4S just north in Maryland, trust me, soft armor is good enough, and come summer you do not want to be wearing plates on top of your vest.

gotcha I'll just invest in a thin lightweight trauma plate for the front of my vest or something. I don't really need to improve my concealed vest ( duty vest) already have force factor 3a inserts that are 4 lbs for the vest and 6.5 lbs for the level 4 plate.
>>
>>32221447
So much this.
I need to get my friend a PAL and an sks eventually. And I make just $2.00 over minimum wage.

rifle rated face protection is to heavy and soft armor is to political to use right now becuase gentle people don't like storm troopers.
>>
>>32220273
I just ordered the level iii+ lightweight plates from ar500 with trauma pad for good measure. All videos i've seen have it taking up to 7.62x51mm AP rounds. But it is 5.5lbs so don't know if the extra 1.5lbs a plate would matter to you OP. Also only 182 dollars a plate/pad.
>>
>>32227504
those ar500 ALSC plates look great for conceal carry. weight only matters when you add other equipment. Just want less wear and tear on my joints and spine is all.

>>32227457

>>
>>32227564

>>
>>32227504
The AR500s are comfy and affordable, but at the cost of a few more pounds of shit to carry. Like I said earlier I figure they're good armor for guarding or something while remaining mostly stationary, but wouldn't hike in them again if I can avoid it.
>>
>>32227591
I would not want to use more then one plate up front for concealed usage.
>>
>>32227591
Yeah carrying 15+lbs of armor and an IOTV along with a ruck destroyed my back. I looked into poly plates and Spartan seemed to be a popular brand. Just don't go above 150F with them.
>>32227520
I love how thin they are. Might do a stress shoot with them in to see the results when they arrive in 2 months or so.
>>
>>32227648
Curved with a base coat would make more sense IMHO. 5.45 -5.5 lbs in an ultra thin design is a great thing. Besides if you're getting hit to the point of getting spall from line x failure then you have critically failed in your techniques to keep yourself alive short term active shooter wise anyway. Now long term I would want a plate to take a beating and keep on ticking for as many multihit rds as possible without spall.
