So I suspect the light primer strikes were dirt related. I truthfully didn't do fuckass to really clean it, but it was lubed up good. Considering it ran for 250rounds then would occasionally choke, + it did it when loading from an empty chamber, I suspect shit buildup was stopping it from going into battery.

Just gonna clean it and see what happens. It's certainly not the lower, or the bcg.

This is true with the exception of barrel removal every part on an AR can be replaced by hand with simple tools. If a trunion, bullet guide, bolt rail etc shits the bed you will have to grind off the rivet and press a new one. After watching various AKOU videos i have no faith in the AK to survive past 10k rounds.

I've ruled out ammo. I have shot 2k+ of this federal 55gr and it never once failed in my m&p upper. It also did this with green tip (assault cop seekers). The hammer spring was strong when I checked this morning, and the light strikes were super light. So I think I've narrowed it down to failure to go into battery.

Well thanks. I wasn't sure how I'd feel about the rail once I shot it but I felt fucking great shooting. Very good size IMO. The brake I have on was indeed miserable for everyone but the shooter, as I intended.
I'm thinking a leupold mark AR for my optic, still a billet 80% lower and a ubr on as well.

Thats what i have heard but the majority of AK's I see are stamped. Ive owned two AK's and was never really impressed by them. My first gun in 2006 was a wasr 10 for 300 even out the door. I read everything about them i could find on k. At the time they were great options, but ten years later not at all. A 600 dollar AR will far and away outperform a 600 dollar basic AK. If we still had 06 and before prices i would say the argument could still be made for AK's but with the availability of decent priced entry AR's the major advantage of AK's is a thing of the past.

Someone has done reliability tests on them. Oddly enough, the PSA is is the only AR tested on that channel that passed the 5000 round test, which ironically enough is probably one of the only milspec ARs for less than 1000 dollars. There is at least one AK that also passed the 5000 round test so, I dont really know what why they are so chaffed.

Having trouble installing the forward assist. I have a 3/32 roll pin punch placed in the bottom. I start the pin on top. I press in the forward assist and push the punch up. I take my 1/8 roll pin punch and punch in the pin half way till the 3/32 punch falls out. I check the assist and it doesn't stick. I drive in the pin the rest of the way and check the assist and it doesn't move. Am I doing anything wrong?
