I have never used an aftermarket magazine and know very little about them. It seems a lot of people buy them for AR's but I've always been advised, especially for pistols, to only use factory magazines. There is a lot of conflicting information and I'd like to hear what kind of experience everyone has had with them.
I am thinking about getting Mec Gar magazines for a new .380 to have something to use at the range (it only ships with one). $19 vs $38 is pretty tempting but the reviews on them are either blatant advertising or morons that probably put the bullets in backwards.
mecgars are good
never buy promag or nat mag they are what gave aftermaket mags such a shit reputation
Had good luck with 33rd korean mags in my 9mm AR. No malfunctions at all.
Yeah I like mecgars too and they make factory mags for some pistols anyway. The cz mags are good for sure.

Mec-Gar manufacturers many companies' factory magazines. They also often offer their own branded mags for the same guns, sometimes with higher capacity.

That explains a few things, thanks. I haven't heard anything good about promags or the weird barrel magazines.

MecGar are high quality, and some allow for some higher capacity in older autos (like 17rds in old 5906 pistols)

Just got a Mec-Gar 17rd flush mag for CC my SP-01.
it's higher quality than my stock SP-01 mags
from what i've read, Mec-Gar makes the factory mags

This.
Promag makes garbage. It shouldn't be hard to make magazines to spec yet so many fail at it. Also avoid Korean mags, for every story like >>32214685 you will find ten cases where they would fail terribly. Some Korean mags I bought were entirely inoperable though they looked nice.

>it's worked flawlessly for me. I sent 50 rounds down the pipe this year so far and not a single issue.
Bought a 8 round Kimber mag for my Series 70. Feeds good and will drop out cleanly when empty or partially empty. However, it's a bit difficult to seat fully loaded and a bitch to remove. Surely this isn't normal, but I paid thirty bucks for the thing.
