You don't want to combat rack in the front, too much risk of screwing up and having your hand go in front of the barrel.

Front grooves aid in press checks or combat racks under stress where you miss, which you shouldn't but it can happen. You have 2 options, spend $120-200 to get front serrations added, or get something with more features that should be on every gun like an FNS or m&p.

you certainly get a little more leverage from the front, but if you are too weak to cycle your weapon i recommend changing to a more manageable caliber like .25 ACP.

the only handgun ive ever regularly had to cycle from the front slide serrations is in 10mm with a second recoil spring that increases the overall spring weight to something like 27-30lbs.
