Bull dingus. Read reviews from actual military that had to use M14s. They are a huge maintenance pain in the ass from what a lot of people say. Yes I'm sure someone has their grandpa's M14 that's been running perfectly forever. Welcome to statistics 101.
>>
>>32213977
Its literally a more reliable and easier to service Garand.
The AR is superior as a service rifle in most regards but the M14 isn't obnoxiously heavy or unreliable. Also it looks way cooler.

>>
>>32214062
My father trained with an M14 but once he arrived in Nam he was given an Ithaca M37 (it was ancient, it sucked, and it almost killed him on one occasion) and later a CAR-15.

He said the M14 was an alright rifle, but it was too heavy for him when you took a full combat load of ammo into account, plus he couldn't hit shit with its full auto setting.

In the field, the people who did prefer them could use them to good effect. Evidently, they were useful for cutting down banana trees for lunch since their 7.62 real fucking NATO ammo would make short work of soft banana wood.

His favorite gun was his CAR, followed by his M79, then the M14 and the M60, then the M37 (or at least his shitty one). Since he was in the war early on, he also saw a few M1 Carbines and one staff sergeant he knew insisted on carrying an M3 Grease Gun.

>>32214453
I had a family friend who almost had the exact opposite reaction. He trained on an M14 and was given an M16. He said he had it for about a year before he was able to get an M14 off of someone. He said he didnt hate the M16 but that the M14 worked better for him and most of the people in his Platoon. The one thing he did appreciate about the M16 is how much ammo you could lug around in the Jungle. He was always saying he carried way more ammo for his M14 then he did for his M16 tho.
>>
The M14 just never got a chance to shine until it was too late. At 10-12lbs loaded and 3 feet in length, it's probably one of the worst weapons to be used in a dense jungle environment like most of the US combat operations took place in during that time frame.
>>
>>32214453
>carrying an M3 Grease Gun.
What's the deal with this, can soldiers(in the USM) just carry around whatever shit they owe or find? I would think a government department would be obsessed with standardization
>>
>>32212476
I like the FiveseveN.

It's an innovative design and fulfills the demands it was designed to meet extremely well. Those who hate it can't wrap their heads around the idea of a gun not designed for the civilian carry market, or can't afford one.
>>
>>32214758
The Muhrines used grease guns until Gulf War.
>>
>>32214758
Typically a unit's armory will be authorized X amount of weapons of different types.

My last unit before i lickety split had:

about 150 M16A2s (Some with m203s), 2 .50 M2, 1 Mk19, 1 M9, 20ish M2492, 4 240B.

After that its supposed to be issues as per the unit roster, but when its just the LTs and the commanders who can say otherwise odd things happen.

Deployed you just have to request different weapons and you'll usually get them if you'll reasonably need them. We had a few shotguns we gained while over and whatever the Remington rifles are called.

Of course it was different around NAM era.
>>
>>32214510
My father was light infantry, so they had to hump all their gear everywhere they went with absolutely no kind of vehicles aside from helicopters to drop them off here and there. Weight meant a lot to him, since he had to carry all his gear, plus his weapon, plus his ammo, plus everyone carried a belt for the M60s. Ammo weight was a deal breaker for him.

>>32214758
My dad was Army, and things worked a little different in Vietnam than they do now. From what I gather, your superiors would ensure that there were the mandatory amount of M60s and M79s sprinkled around, but aside from that as long as you outranked the armorer you could take what you want. Of course usually they just had M16s, M60s, M79s and maybe a few M14s and M37s sprinkled here and there, but sometimes you'd see older stuff like M1 Carbines or Grease Guns, or even rarer still were guns brought in from private owners from the US. Usually the people who carried the older weapons were either fobbits or Korean War vets who couldn't break old habits.

If you can hump a battle rifle and ammo just fine, then you can hump EVEN MORE ammo for an assault rifle. It's like tards who try to excuse giant swords by saying the swordsman is super strong. If he really was that superhuman, he could use a normal sword and be waaaaay faster and more offensive.

You know the MPX interests me a lot as PCC guy, but, at the end of the day it's really just a more high priced AR9. It doesn't have the boner popping like a UMP/MP5, isn't cheap like an entry level AR9, doesn't have well established mags, and the price tag is up there with an MP5. I really do want to like her.
>>
>>32221050

The selling point is that it's a piston driven SMG, and with that you'd think it'd suppress nicely. However, it seems that the MPX kicks back A LOT of gas at the shooter when suppressed.

That's just weird...

Kel-tec is the king of good ideas executed less than perfectly. If they can ever get the kinks out of their QC worked out they'll be a popular brand, because they've got some amazing ideas and a lot of cool, novel concepts. I didn't even know how badly I wanted a bullpup until I tried the RFB.

>>32221241

Nothing they do is actually novel. They borrow ideas from older designs and then turn it into a new concept.
