I fail to see how that complete meme is sexy. I understand it's built for "muh stealth", but the F-35 came out looking like the really expensive high tech version of a short bus.
>>32204097
LA to DC in 64 minutes, at over 2000 mph. That is tearing so much ass.
I'd want to do it a second time on acid if I were the pilot.
>>32204298

>>32204082

>>32204325
Behing stuck in an incredibly stuffy, silent, and claustrophobic cockpit without the ability to stand up sounds like pretty much the worst possible time to take acid
Let's be honest we all know it's the Spitfire. The only question is what variant.
>>32204082
Look, this here's an opinion thread. I have an opinion that isn't gonna be popular, but whatever. I'm gonna voice it.
FM-2 Wildcat.
It's not as slim and sleek as a lot of the others that'll appear in this thread. It's not as powerful of a performer and no one really appreciates it.

Your lack of p-38 is sad.
Seriously? Am I alone on liking pic related?
>>32204623
That one's from General Motors. After Grumman switched over to the Hellcat, General Motors went on to built the 'ultimate' models of the Wildcat.
FM-2 was a little over a quarter ton lighter than the F4F-4 everyone thinks of when they think of Wildcats while also having an engine that generated 150 more horse power. It was the 'Wilder' Wildcat.
/bread
>>32204879
Nope.
>>32204879
I wouldn't say it's the best looking, but it definetly has a really unique aesthetic we'll never see again. It was the earliest stealth craft, but now our ability to utilize computers, and understanding of stealth aircraft mean all future stealth aircraft are going to be curvy. The age of angles began and ended with the nighthawk.

I almost agree, but my vote goes to the Griffon Spit. That full bubble canopy and the slim, pointy nose are so damn sleek.
It was a political mess. It ended up being a plane neither partner intended to build. It was never the fastest or the biggest or the best. It never headlined a great war.
But damn was it nice to look at. Long, small high-mounted wings, just the right mix of curvy and utilitarian. The Jag was just about the only good thing the Brits and French have ever done together.
>>32205716
It's unfortunate that people don't really appreciate the equipment that actually mattered in the war. /k/ in particular just defaults to the latest and greatest that came out in the final days, neverminding the fact that the critical jobs were performed by more humble aircraft.
For real tho
Quite possibly the sleekest looking plane of WWII

He was an excellent designer, but wasn't the F-104 one of his, too? It wasn't a particularly stellar aircraft.
>>32208273
is that the DB603 powered prototype? That nose looks big enough.
Apparently the G55s were a match or better for most fighters of the war, just built in very small numbers.
>>32210194
It was an excellent plane for its designed role, it just had a steep learning curve, hence there were a lot of accidents by poorly trained or new pilots. Also, too many militaries tried to shoe-horn it into roles it wasn't designed for. Despite all of that, it had one of the longest service lives of any fighter.
