Talk to me on Springfield armory 1911s, I think the mil-spec 1911 A-1 is pretty sexy, plus my pop had one and I loved it growing up. Anything I should know before buying one?

Get a Colt or a Ruger, or an RIA if you want one of the 10mm doublestack monsters.

They're great.
Springfield is probably the equilibrium point of cost/quality as far as 1911s go.

I loved my range officer when I had it. It was a pre Hillary hole model so that was cool. I ended up getting rid of it because I didn't shoot it enough.

Holy fucking shit I have never seen this before please hold me.

Take it from one who owns both: get the Colt Series 70. It's well worth the extra 1.5 benjamins. The mil-spec was my first 1911, and I regret it. Not that there's anything wrong with it, but I would have been better off getting either an RIA, which is the same quality but slightly worse cosmetically, or the Colt, which is flawless in every way. If the Springer was made in America it would be more attractive but as it stands it fills a useless niche.
And for those keeping score, the Springer 3-dot sights are usable, the RIA GI sights are unusable, and the Colt GI sights are excellent.

I bought a SA 1911 just this August and it doesn't have a lock
Springfield is Croatian garbage.

I own a MC Full Operator and I love it, it's my favorite handgun
heavy as fuck though, would suck to carry
How shit is the SR1911?
Redpill me

Own a Range Officer model and I really like it.
Good quality and fairly reliable, but the problem is the thing weighs the same as a brick so it's tiring to carry and shoot for extended periods.

>"""""""""mil-spec"""""""
>pimpshined barrel bushing, slanted serrations, 2010s target sights
Honestly less authentic than airsoft t b h senpai.

My first firearm was a Springfield Armoury M1911A1 Mil Spec. Stainless finish unfortunately, but still grew to like it. I'd have preferred the one in OP's pic.

Mine had a lock as well, but with a far simpler key. Flat piece of metal with two tiny prongs. I generally left it off, pretty much. Yeah it's just 'one more piece' and Murphy's law says it can fuck shit up, but I don't worry about it. It really does need some force to turn so it's not like it would engage itself.
All in all OP, they're great. Get one, and you won't regret it. Just... try not to get an idiot scratch on it. It was my first pistol, so yeah... it happened.

OP I'm like this dude. My first gun was a Springfield Loaded 1911.
I love it to death.
here's mine
>book is in the pic because the last time i took a pic of it was for a post your favorite pistol and operator book
