a well-made American made rifle that has a classic look, doesn't cost a fortune and will last forever. Could you guys point me in the right direction ?

Ruger Hawkeye. It's a Mauser 98 in Ruger clothing.

Beat me to it. They're handsome guns. And anything that says RUGER on it is going to be built like a very small tank.
Why does it have to be American made? Just buy a Tikka or Winchester Model 70. Those two are far better than anything you could get from America except Kimber, which is probably out of your budget.

Drive an American car, wear clothes made in US. Willing to pay a little more for made in USA.

I've heard the GSR is an exception to that with some receiver QC issues leading to sloppy bolt and magazine handling, which is a shame because otherwise I'd buy one of the 18" stainless ones as soon as my gun fund refills.

Why? European and Japanese products are better and cheaper.

HOWA is best. And ponies.

Why does it not have to be? Anon clearly said he wanted American made.

I'm not saying you have to. Personal choice.

>ponies
What, a Colt? AR-15s don't really fit the aesthetic quality OP was looking for.

Not a valid reason, but if you absolutely insist on an American rifle, you best save your money and get a Kimber.

>well-made
>American made
Pick one. You don't buy American for well made, the same way you don't buy German for logically designed.
