Just fiddling with my trusty firearm recordbook and realize that I own 19 firearms, of which 7 are handguns, and yet no 1911. I've decided it's time, and /k/ gets to help me pick.
Here are some guidelines. None are written in stone. Bonus points for picking a 1911 that stays close to these criteria.
-LOOK: I prefer a classic look over a modern look, and I actually dislike a "tactical" look on a 1911. Likewise, nothing "artsy," though I'm not opposed to nicely checkered grips or nice hardwood. I'm not a big fan of stainless, or of bone or antler.
-USE: Won't be adding any attachments, so rails aren't important, tacticool gadgets or laser sights don't interest me for a 1911.
-I'd spend up to $1500, maybe a touch more for something I really like, but I would smile warmly at anything $750 or under, and I don't mind tracking down something used in the model I like.
-I'd want something that could take "standard" 1911 mags. I'm not interested in some double-stack attempt to remake the 1911.
-American made would be a plus.
-I don't know what else to look for in a 1911. Educate me.
>classic look
>$1500 budget

Sounds like you're looking for a Colt.
Series 70 ones have a nice finish, and have all the classic features.

Springfield Armory 1911 parkerized mil spec. It's like 650 at my local lgs. Goes for about that online.

The best in your price is a Dan Wesson Valor, OP.

Ciamrron

Or Auto Ordnance

This gun does things to me...
1911 heaven has several different Baer guns between 1700 and 1900.
If you can swing a couple hundred more bucks I would highly recommend.

Dan Wesson Valor is beautiful. At least consider this Op
All damn fine options, /k/. Thank you.
Love the look of the Auto Ordnance best, Springfield a close second.
Love the Springfield's price, Auto Ordnance a close second.
The Delta Elite is intriguing as hell, and might end up being my second 1911. The Les Baer Custom reminds me of the gun Agent Pendergast uses in some of my favorite novels by Preston & Child; price is a little ouchy but it's a thing of beauty.

OP here again. You're absolutely right. The DW Valor is a beautiful thing, even though I wanted a more traditional look and not so much on the stainless...it's still one hell of a contender.
$1500? You're in luck. Tombstone has a carbon steel Springfield TRP for $1330.
I like the offering from Ruger, myself.

I do too, but OP said he wasn't a fan of stainless.

You must be new here.

There's literally no reason to not buy Rock Island.
You are overspending with anything else.

Not really. Just don't own a rifle.
>>32190334
But you can get better for the same, or cheaper.

>I'm not a big fan of stainless
why not? once the blueing wears of it looks like shit
get a commander side frame, full size frames only looked good back in 1911
buy a Caspian frame and slide for under $500 and then build it up your self from parts at Brownells

>doesn't provide an example of either
ok
