There's usually a degree of overlap. A lot of SWAT are former 11bs or similar combat or Forve protection MOSs.

The roles they fill are different, there's a degree of overlap. You need to set up situations for them.

I'd like to point out that this failure to breach is not the result of incompetence, but that those doors are literally the bane of SWAT's existence. The plasticity of the door actually just absorbs force and evenly distributes it and then snaps back, sending most of the energy into the breacher.

I cant speak for the US but here in Australia our Police Tactical Groups are trained to the same standard as the Army SF units and get the same weapons and equipment. They have selection courses that vary in length but they are modelled on the SASR cadre course selection. PTGs are harder to get into, have longer and harder training courses and the cops in them have more skill sets then an Grunt. However a grunts life out in the field is far tougher then a Police operator's.

Not all SWAT teams are equal just as not all soldiers are equal. There are thousands of police officers and thousands of "Veterans" that have never been in a firefight or shot another person. And there are thousands of veterans and thousands of police officers that have been in firefights.
A lot of your full time teams the average age will probably be in the 30s-40s and they are guys that have literally been honing their craft for 15-20 years. A large portion of them are likely combat veterans and they've received far more advanced CQB training and have far superior CQB skills to your average soldier.
I'm sure a lot of veterans did kick down doors and pulled the trigger. But I'd be willing to bet the majority of them never shot a single person or if they were in any kind of engagement it was at such a far range they weren't in any real danger. Based veterans I know/am related to/have worked with maybe 10% of them actually did anything in combat.

Except that they would get their ass handed to them. In urban warfare, an infantry soldier is trained to kill and outmanouver the enemy, whereas the SWAT team is trained to do entries in buildings while minimizing collateral damage and wounded/dead.

I'm not mech infantry so i can't really answer your question. Since all other soldiers carry AK5s except for one who carries an m249, i'd imagine it's an extra so that the gunner can change if more firepower is needed. But again, im not sure.

SWAT used to be something you called in for hostage situations and general SHTF and only large cities had them. Since 9/11 all the police departments started getting milsurp gear that they really have no use or justification for so whenever they have to serve a warrant or a subpeona they gear up half the department and use it as a pretext to play with all their expensive toys.

So for a job that they formerly would have just sent two guys in a squad car to handle they use a dozen men, a surplus APC, and generally spend a few hundred thousand dollars mobilizing all of it.
