Why in the hell is 5.45x18mm so shilled now?
I had to use it against a cyborg and an android and yeah it penetrated but went right through the guy.
What concealable handgun round can penetrate cyborgs and fuck up their internals?

Ballistics calculations are hard, mang. Like, "Get aftermarket dongles for it" hard. And even then, your wife's limbs might... be a little delicate to stand up to the recoil of anything you'd shoot at a neuro'd up manjacker and expect to actually stop him. Probably not hurting for the precision, though.

I dunno, depends on what model you got.

I've heard guys getting decent results with generic nodes running open source stuff, but you have to know what you're doing to make that work. And there is still the problem of recoil.

Could do a torso mount, I suppose. Lots of stability. But you'd also have to jury rig the fuck out of it.

If money's no object, just get a gun-on-treads bot without the zero niner AI and set her up to remote control it. Bonus points if it's a retired cop bot.

Yes

You are not Bendak Starkiller, and those couple microseconds of reaction time aren't gonna be the difference between life and death for your entire hab block

Too much risk of hardware rejection and possible anti-rejection drug dependency for too little gain. You ain't gonna use that improved functionality and in two years when you're still paying for it and the things still have to phone home every hour, you're gonna regret it

take it from me, man, leave the aug boosting to the professionals and the foolhardy
>>
>>32175096
He could just get nano augs or drug bio-enhancements
a ton more expensive
They work better and don't have any rejection
down side is you might live less if the drug doesn't sit well with your nervous system
They can give you similar feats that mechanical ones give you too
>>
>>32175071
Wife actually weighs a little more than I do and I can shoot my 11.24x56 pretty well. I made sure she had hydraulic appendage movement because I still don't like electric style movement systems. And with today's programming I doubt there's much difference in precision.
>>

>Taking your pocket rocket up against dedicated hardware
>Expecting it to perform

Pick one and only one, my friend

Metal's tougher than meat, the best you're gonna do is go straight through. If you wanna fuck up an augie or a hardshell then you're gonna want explosive penetrators, and you just can't do that in a peashooter round out of a stubby CC piece barrel.

I would recommend something full size at minimum, Zenith makes quality stuff for not too much.
>>
>>32175023

>5.45x18mm

The funny thing about that round is that it's pretty much .22LR in ballistics.

Which means it's not going to penetrate shit due to such a low velocity, no matter what the round is made out of.

Any one here working in the Eurasian Front? We just finished an assault on a ShiangXi neurojack plant, those fuckin jackers are right out of their minds. Some of their guys ambushed the lead element in of our company, strapped with EMP vests. Guys with cybernetic organs died immadietely, others were WIA and the vehicles were scrap. I was able to get a few with the AR-54s, the 11mm really scrap em good. Unfortunately their soldiers are so aug'd you need to get a brainstem shot to shut em off completely.

Just before we hit the facilities some A-22s dropped a nanobot screen - and boy the do work. They fly around and when they detect the Chiner software, they get into the host and install viruses that slowly shut down their system. Riding by, we saw them writhing in their fox holes. Earned 1,200,32 credits for the op, and bonus 50,000 for destroying am enemy jack-tank. Another 1,630,456,789 credits, and I can buy out my contract and live a life of luxury boys!

Damn VA can barely keep my old Mk56 full prosthetic body maintained. They won't upgrade me to a less maintenance intensive Mk57A1 or get me a civilian model. They even disabled all my super human capabilities. Because Ivan makes round that goes boom boom for cheap cheap price.

Also you're using steel core rounds I suspect. Do great against armor, won't damage the insides significantly unless you're going for shot placement.

I suggest a heavier round, try 10mm auto. Gives you penetration but has that extra UMPH. Maybe get a pulse upgrade to fuck over the guys armor.

5.56 has excellent AP and organic damage.
M855A1 rekts most cyborgs and most body armor, if fighting exoskeletons or military grade augs, use EMP 'nades and M995A1. M995A1 is a tungsten carbide SLAP round thats about 4.9mm going about 4000fps.

Are you fucking kidding me? Any even half modern milspec parts are going to be shielded against those. Might work against civi borgs, but unless they're more metal than meat an EMP ain't doing nothing because all their implants are going to be internal, and thus shielded by the borgs own bio electric field. The only way you're disabling those is with an EMP powerful enough that it fries the dude's nervous system and kills them outright, and at that point, it don't really matter that you disabled his augs, now, does it?

I've seen her with my own eyes. Well, optics, but you know what I mean. Her unit and mine ran into each other on an op a few decades back, and for once we actually figured out we were chasing the same cell and didn't start shooting at one another. Don't let her specs fool you, she's scary as fuck.

Well, was scary as fuck anyway, nobody's seen her in years. Word on the street is she turned into a ghost on the 'net or some shit but that sounds like bullshit to me, probably just got taken out on an op and nobody wants to admit it.

Anyway, any of you guys full borgs and have advice on a body? I've been in combat armor for the last 60 years or so and DoD is finally granting us permission to get weekend bodies and take leave. Cost isn't really an object either, turns out a century of combat pay with no expenses adds up to a pretty fat bank account, especially when half of my pay was in old Dollars, which apparently are worth a fuckload in today's creds.

Oh, and yeah, I said DoD. I know everybody likes to meme that there's no government military left, but there's still a few of us. And before anybody says it, yes, I'm allowed to post this, it's actually impossible for me to break OPSEC or post classified shit with this cyberbrain.

2101 actually Leap years stopped being a thing a few years ago, and to fuck with future historians added a year and will continue to add a year to the count every 356 years. As for the sleep study.... I dunno. >I wonder if my investment account gained any money.
>I had 10k invested in google and another 20k in Monsanto...

Google... is complicated, if you want to use it to get ahead using it you're basically going to have to go... I think a term from your era would work best on this...,"full ghost in the shell"... honestly wouldn't if I were in your boots, only because you've got unmodified genetics, and no mods, that's so rare in this day and age you can monetize it just by broadcasting that fact, people will literally throw credits at you to live an analog life, especially if you film it for youtube.

As for Monsanto yes. You'll live like a king if you can prove who you are. Certifying your google stock is easier since they've been secretly taking samples of stock owners since 2011, and once you have that certified monsanto will consider that a qualifying cert and unlock your stock with them. They made bank in 2040 when the moon got terraformed during their artificial magnetosphere project.

>>
>>32190468
Of course she's pissed, she's been trapped in old hardware since google fucked up and made self aware AIs and only had a piss stream of a connection to explore the net with. you need to talk it out with her, start by saying you're sorry.

As for abhuman, it's a derogatory for "abnormal humans" also "augmented body humanoid" and even the technical term isn't correct because everything capable of sapient thought has more or less the same rights as any other person, which is why there's two dogs and a hampster sitting on the board of directors for Tump Corp.... well that and they have a pretty decent grasp of how corporate takeovers work.

Got a little sidetracked, so for all intents and purposes, say you have a person who, through genetic augments have a cat tail and cat ears, some members of the population consider them to be "abhuman" and that is makes them fair game for attacks, enslavement, etc.... yeah not cool. I have a few special weapons for dealing with people like that.

datapacket relevant.

It's literally an ancient communication's satellite that doesn't have the bandwidth necessary to do anything troublesome... it's actually a blessing and a curse in that she'd can't do anything too wild, but I can't get into her runtime environment and metaphorically put her in a shotgun headlock and force these two to talk it out.

>>32190717

I seriously never understood why that ever got any traction... but anyway.. it may be 64k but, your latency is amazing because it's only you on that subnetwork.

At this point I'm stuck with just spamming her with handshake requests, you two need to talk it out.

Back online....I hate data patches like that.....especially the timing was after she accepted a handshake request. I'm assuming she busted up laughing for no clear reason right?

that was when I locked up and had to reboot.

Anyway she should be willing to talk with you now. Marathon some anime, I suggest Kill la kill and talk it out, offer to give her a name since you apparently never got the chance before being thrown in an icebox (rampant AI's secretly like that and it helps with returning back to a state of normal, though the new normal after AI rampancy generally is either Kuudere or Yandere , with no real middle ground... thought on occasion you get Dandere out of the mix though either are fine as long as you don't make eyes at another AI.

This is where your google stock will come in handy as the AI community will, once you've transferred her to a newer chassis, For the love of Jobs only after you've talked her through the baggage she has, (I suggest anything that has similar design to basic human limit, while the studies were only done on 20 years of rampancy, it was found that they responded well to living life like a plain human the best), but hold off on the cybernetic flesh upgrades unless she really does want to be converted from synthetic to carbon based life.

Those level 4s should also have left by now since I just sent them orders to deal with a group of silicon lifeforms (different from synthetic life mind you) attempting to access the netsphere improperly, expect bright lights to the west and a mild explosion in 4 seconds.

If you were alive between 1985 and 2025 you absolutely did as far as anime goes. The grinding cost and time pressures reduced most of it to cheapass 3DCGI after the Japanese crash of 2032. For whatever reason, Miroku being forced to sell Browning and Winchester back to a US company caused a ripple effect that dropped the Nikkei 3500 points in a month.

Don't try it until you've had a medical evaluation. When you got defrosted you might not had had your stomach purged and swapped to a synthetic digestive environment (a majority of digestive bacteria was eradicated in 2035 after the then European Union Leader Chealsea Clinton had a bad bout of food poisoning and no one had the foresight to tell her that e.coli and its relatives are important to digestions).... You may have a stomach full of trillions of credits for people who want to go "au naturale" but the 'drink' could potentially wipe out your digestive environment if you haven't had a chance to consume anything.

Anything else I can help you with before I finish up reintegrating you into society?

Her Granddaughter is the current AI popstar under the name and brand "Hatsuna Miku"

regardless you've been logged, a set of level 3 safeguards will arrive soon to provide on site security, most likely they'll join in on the anime bingewatching since the pair I selected are into that, however they're also very good at asset protection until tomorow morning at 0800 local time (soonest I could schedule it) when a level 8, possibly myself, possibly another granted we're all allike and no noticeable difference in personality will be noted, will be available to be on scene to finish up the integration process and establish your net ID.

Query: central nervous implant, subdermal analog, or retro fobber that can be put into a necklace, keychain or pocket. Note, replacements of retro fobber type IDs are not complimentary, however the fee is minimal, but requires genetic data to be on file with the netsphere for identification purposes.

Yes, however it makes things incredibly inconvenient for a person to live their life, not impossible, but you need to have multiple forms of identification and it's impossible to access a vast majority of the netsphere as a result.

trusting an inherently flawed idea, just because it is cool.

Look i want this shit to work but it doesn't also 50 micronewtons for the amount of energy they are putting in is nothing.
Also just because a company buys into complete bullshit doesn't make it any more real. Companies can make bad choices and invest in non working tech. Its happened before and it will happen again.
Look no one would want this thing to actually work then me, but lets face the fact that it doesn't work how about we look at some cool shit that does .

But it does work. NASA's latest Eagleworks paper shows 1.2mN/kw with the original copper frustum, and Shawyer is claiming ~500mN/kw with a superconducting design, which is only about a 15x improvement for the newer design if you factor in the ~10x boost we already assumed superconductors would get.
>>
>>32194740
you do realize what a shitty out put that is right... Did you even watch the video by thunder foot, so what you are going from .01 percent efficiency to .15 percent. You will still need a fuck huge energy source to do any thing. Ion engines are way way better, or space flight and chemical propellant in much better for orbital flight as it can achieve 60 percent efficiency.
>>
>>32194771
>t. doesn't understand the larger point of propellantless drive
It's not supposed to replace rockets or anything for atmospheric flight unless with some freak combination of compact fusion reactors and 1N/kW superconducting emdrives. It's way, way faster than other propellantless drives. You should be comparing it to Hall thrusters, photon rockets, etc. instead since that's what it's competing against.
>>
>>32194828
yes and even when compared to the humble ion engine it comes up short. The fact is that even in space the amount of energy required to be useable is far beyond anything we have.

The hardened tungsten carbide penetrator is just enough to punch through what it needs to before touching off the HE and blowing the fuck up. Most pistols don't get the right mass:velocity ratio to penetrate correctly before exploding but rifle carbines and larger pistol rounds do the job nicely. It's why you want a revolver if you're looking for something you can tuck in your wasteband but are worried about dropping augs.

The rounds were literally designed to take down infantry in power armor. It's just a coincidence that they're also excellent at dropping cyborgs.

USNA here. Only POGs use the A5 these days, but it's really not a bad weapon. Remember that it's got nothing to do with the old AR-15 except general silhouette and they just called it an "M16" to sneak it past congress in the 2050s. The only real downside is the old 5.56 cartridge but the modern ammo is pretty good.

I can't really blame people for having a bad opinion of us since we're 99% POGs and bureaucrats these days, but the few of us left who are real warfighters are damn good at what we do. The reason you don't hear about OUR weapons is because we don't use handheld rifles anymore, everybody's either running power armor or milspec cyberbodies (which, incidentally, are almost identical from outside, but more capable because of the extra space for equipment), and both have integrated weapons systems. I can't divulge detailed specs but I usually deploy with a 6.2x60 caseless auto on one arm and a 2.3mm railgun on the other (kind of rare because only cyberbodies have space for a big enough reactor to power it), and a back-mounted micromissile rig.

I hear the covert guys have a bunch of pretty trick traditional guns, but I don't know much about covert ops since I'm nine feet tall and weigh a ton and a half.

Holy shit, 2016? Damn dude, you must be around as old as I am, been a while since I ran into a civilian from my day.

So yeah, you haven't missed much in the way of media, it's all been shit since everything went VR.

As for your Cortana, that's a funny story that Netsphere didn't go into, maybe nobody but me remembers it anymore. So, back in the 2030s when we were first developing power armor, we needed powerful AIs to help the pilots, only programming wasn't really far enough along yet. That was a big problem until somebody somehow figured out that the old Windows 10 Cortana was, by sheer random accident, far closer to sentience than it was ever intended to be, and it was the breakthrough that led to our first suit AIs.

The catch was that nobody could figure out how to make it work on anything BUT Win10, so our suits ran a milspec modded version of Win10, and when updates would drop, they were done through the normal Windows Update system since the few remaining known Win10 computers were all being used on private industrial networks and so in theory nothing but PAs would get them.

Turns out, though, that there WERE still people running Win10 rigs, mostly retro gamers, and the whole thing led to one of the funniest weeks in /g/'s history.

Anyway, part of the whole thing was that the Cortanas were designed to analyze and adapt to their pilots' interests and personalities, both to improve operational efficiency and as some kind of anti-PTSD thing. I guess in your personal absence, yours took all the info she could from your computer and tailored herself to what she could find.

Oh damn, a terrestrial marine? Not too many of you guys around these days.

I was a PA pilot back in the 2020s and 30s, still kind of miss it. Took a railgun to the chest in Dubai (AKA the world's largest and most radioactive hole in the ground now, good fucking riddance) and when I opened my eyes two years had passed and now I WAS the armor.

Pretty big shock, since anything beyond basic augs was pretty sci-fi in those days and full-body cyborgs seemed like a fantasy, but leave it to DARPA to come up with some pretty crazy shit and then hide the permission to try it out in the fine print of a soldier's contract. I was pretty damn pissed at the time, but in retrospect living 150 years hasn't been the worst thing ever, and introducing myself to new recruits as "Bjorn the Fell Handed" never stops being funny. (To me and only to me, of course, I doubt there's anybody else alive except maybe iceman anon who'd get the joke.)

Anyway, I'm pretty stoked lately because they finally figured out how to swap me from my old prototype cyberbrain into a modern one a few years ago, and I just finally got clearance to get myself a humanoid body for off-duty.

Oh yeah, this is the closest I could find to my rig. I think this is a factory demonstrator or something, in service ours have low-vis paint and a lot more gear strapped to them. The third would only tell me that the rest of the team were heroes and that he was fucking pissed that nobody would know why for decades.

One thing I can say, though. You know how damn stingy the brass are about awards these days, right? If you look at the records, you'll see that a few days after that mission, there were six Silver Stars and three Navy Crosses quietly issued, all to classified recipients and for classified reasons.

So, uh, any of you guys done any work for the Mega-Corps? I've been working for Eurocorp for a few years now as an agent, it's pretty good work, if you can get it.

They upgraded our DART chips a little while back, can hack any chips without the latest OS. Nothing better than making a Cybernog shoot his friends, then put a live grenade in his own mouth.

Anyway, they're issuing us .45 HSC as the standard issue starting next month, but I've heard multiple people saying it tends to just fragments after hitting the outershell of my 'borgs and augies, either leaving 'em the bleed out, or do minimal damage in the case of the 'Borgs.

We're allowed to bring our own weapons as duty pieces, so I was wondering if it was worth getting a Glock 80?

I figure I load it with 12.7mm HEAT, I ain't exactly gonna leave 'em bleeding out and the like.

And don't any of you bleeding heart types start giving me shit about "collateral damage" and "hearts and minds" We have lawyers to pay people off for that exact reason.
>>
>>32197472
>These fuckers get .45 HSC as standard issue
God I hate you megacorp bastards, the NAPD only gets issued 10mm auto and I swear that shit will completely bounce off your most basic carapace armor and even maid androids shake it off.
Also, get a glock 88 instead, recoil on 12.7mm HEAT is almost as bad as 11x27maximum out of that light a gun, an extra five inches of slide and barrel really helps tame that shit to levels that won't get revenge on wristkind.

Now they are calling a containment squad I really think this is over kill.. Any ways im going to be enjoying my glorious salt preserved spam that's almost 100 years old...

Eh, recoil's not too much of a problem, I've got recoil dampeners in my wrists and shock absorbers in my shoulders as part of my aug package.

Does make it difficult to judge how hard you're hitting a perp though, I ended up punching straight through some slomo slinging spic's head last week, took two days to get all the grey matter and blood out from my finger joints.

Oh, and if you ever get tired of working on a government salary, hit us up. Ex-LEO's are always welcome, provided your morals aren't too staunch and you don't mind getting a few surgeries.

>>32198400

Jesus Christ grandpa, I'm surprised they haven't scrapped your ass yet. Mind you, the price they'd get for the parts probably isn't even worth the labour! Hell, I bet your HUD still runs in a fucking Linux OS!

Why not just detach and sonicate at that point?
I keep a large artiFISHial tank in my apartment that doubles as a sonic cleaner for whenever my shit gets dirty

Yeah I'm a groundhog. You Space Marines got it easy.

>t...They pull him piece by piece out of Armor.
I'm glad LA got leveled.
Fucking cesspool, Anonymous hacked people to form a People's Army.
That's why they don't exist anymore.
My pic was because they hacked my HUD, and my DermaChrome Aug.
>>
>>32199236

Nothing of value was lost when LA got glassed, a shame I was in fucking Siberia, dealing with some uprising of Aug's on the edge of the wastes. I would've liked to have seen the mushroom cloud over that shit city.
>>
>>32199293
Wait we nuked LA... god damn did I miss out on shit. What's next we gassed sanfrancisco due to a zombie out break..
>>

....I'm gonna be straight with you, last time I detached my fingers, I misplaced three of them and had to spend my weekend off basically one handed. I've been, well, hesitant to take them off since.

Because believe me, cranking it with two fingers isn't easy, and I refuse to go lefty.
>>
>>32199315
How can you jerk it with hard metal fingers. That sounds painful especially when you think about the pinch points.

Also can someone tell me the difference between the performance of 2nm graphene based processors and Quantum computers. It would seem that they can output a similar amount of work.
>>
>>32199379

This, fuck outta here with walking around with your augs on show. It'd be like buying one of those old-world fossil fuel vehicles and not painting it some fancy bright colour like they used to.

Only time I show 'em off is if I know I'm gonna be in for a fight on an assignment, and that's partly so I don't fuck up my "skin".

Well the docs have showed up doing scans and every thing. Still freaking out about my fever.

Any how for you young friend luckily I have it saved a link and it still works . Generally I would recommend using it in a computer virus that opens up a shit ton of video tabs and plays them just slightly out of sync .

I agree, but I sold off mine to skin harvesters in order to pay for those sickass augs and those sexy retractable blades, so I'm stuck with my metal arms now.

you mean they just don't have vats they grow skin in... Damn that's primitive where are you from? that's tech that was readily availed in 2016 for skin grafts

Tell me friend, what do you think of the now global security system promptly named "ORWELL"?
You can be honest, there are no thought crimes regulations or laws here.

Personally, I think it is the greatest thing ever brought to us by The Nation. It employs useless NEETs and provides universal anti-cyber terrorism for free to all the people of The Nation.
>>
>>32203035
I don't have a flying freaking clue. I'm the fucker that was iced for what was supposed to be a sleep study for god knows how many fucking years.

They should change the name as it brings up a connection to George Orwell's dystopian novels which is the last thing you want as a security company.

Might I recommend something nicer like Public cyber safety command.

Also does anyone have any fucking clue as to what the plague of 2017 was.

So you're implying that free anti-cyber terrorism only belongs in dystopian society?

Interesting, the last person who said something like that turned out to be one of those silicon niggers from the OPEC States.

Europa has provided the same services to their people for years. It's about time The Nation caught up as well.
>>
>>32203276
Jesus Christ even 100 years in the future the straw man stands strong. Now nowhere did I say it was a bad thing. I merely stated they should change the name, also people are still buying into that race garbage.

Fuck man you have walking genetic anomalies thanks to GM, and you still care about race. I mean hell apparently if I wanted to I could get my skin color changed genetically.

I mean fuck, I could alter my sperm cells so they could resemble those of an Africans and all my children would be black.

God damn this future is strange.
