A good one is definitely solid and weighted so that the striking end will crack bone without much effort.

They're generally good for self defense because in a melee situation you want to keep the attacker away from you as much as possible. Because in most cases your primary objective isn't to harm your attacker, but to scare them off so you are no longer in danger. Meaning it's more important to keep from getting stabbed/hit, than it is to hit your attacker with a lethal weapon (though if you have a gun, go ahead and shoot the fuck, of course).

Well I was thinking if I was in a public place and a non deadly situation it would be useful if I wanted to break up an altercation between some people. Not to say a gun isn't useful or nescessary in some situations, but I see a lot of videos of altercations in public online that wouldn't really warrant deadly force but it would be nice to have at least something. Of course if someone snatched my baton and came at me with it I would probably pull my toaster

Unless you get some baton training it's pointless for you to carry other to impress your friends. You'll end up getting butt raped with it if you ever draw it on a big guy.

Felon here.I have a cheap knock off asp, cost me like 25 bucks at a gun shop.There's totally advantages to carrying them, its just knowing how to use em.Only problem i have with carrying a baton is one you need to use the holster it comes with and two for me at least I have to have to open carryed in my state for it to be legal.I Carry around a pretty nice boot knife most days though,better for defense and way less easier to hide.But these faggots talking about training?ROFLMAO, bro, just aim low( shin or knee) and swing,congrats, you passed the training.

This was just fucking off walking through a field. I wasn't paying attention to the background and wrecked my buddies face. Fighting with a stick, probably in a crowd is a horrible idea. A short swing will break somebodies skull. Fucking around holding onto it, not breaking skulls, will get your skull broke with a stick.

Either don't be there when shit goes down, or start smoking dudes. Having a stick will get you beat with a stick, and possibly your gun taken.

Carry a spare mag instead.
