It's using a 6,5x55 mm, same as the Swedish Mausers, but the Swedish Mausers can handle a little more powder, giving them a more powerful option.

So for hunting, I would rather have a Swedish Mauser, although the Krag is pretty as hell. But it's one of the few domestically produced rifles, so it would help maintain my patriotism.

German mausers are common too. But most of them were rechambered to 30-06 after the war, when entering home guard service. The ones entering navy service were left to the 7,92. Some may have went to the civilian market straight after the war, but most have been in some type of army service, and will therefore be 30-06.

Some have Bavaria markings. Found the crates at my parents farm. My grandpa bought them cheap after the war for gardening work.

Some have Luftwaffe markings, most have just the Swastika.

Local gun store sells two from Turkey for 130€ each.
Original ones are harder to find these days but 8mm Mauser is a very common hunting cartridge and these old rifles are still used.
Also in my village every household still has one or two lying around at home.

I have lots more, but these are pretty much the only ones I have at hand now, as the really pretty ones are back home at the farm. So no pics of them unfortunately. The prettiest ones have Luftwaffe markings. Forgot which unit though. Most have just a small ugly swastika, or nothing at all.

The ones pictured, I just keep at the apartment in case I want to give them to someone interested in WW2 history. So, they're really the mid range, pretty enough to give away, and I have plenty more, so no danger of running out.

After the war a lot of gunsmiths bought hundreds of them to build hunting rifles. Used ones are very inexpensive these days and I heard that most of them shoot very well with lead free hunting ammunition.
