Why do we still have to pull a trigger to fire a gun? It's nearly 2017!
Why not have it linked up to a voice command, or button press?
>>32142398
A button press? You mean like a trigger?
>>32142430
Winchester made a rifle with a thumb-activated trigger,(pic related) it looks neat but it lacks a decent safety and offers no advantages over a standard trigger.
Why fix what isn't broken?
>>32142398
Cause that's as much of an improvement as the Iphone 7 or Windows 8
Voice activation is slower than pressing a button and unfortunately the problem with buttons is more of a legal thing. Even if equipping and maintaining batteries for whatever electrical ignition system it used was not a problem, electronic button triggers are just one chip away from being easily converted into a select fire, full auto firearm.
>>32142398
Case-less ammo that actually works and high tech scopes for the near future. Rail guns and plasma rifles would be the next big leap in small arms technology.
but ar15s do have a button to shoot the bullets, it's behind behind the shell deflector on the side of the upper
>>32142507
and that chip is the 555, aka the swiss army knife of microchips. simple, effective, and useful in a pinch
>>32142398
It'll always be called a 'trigger' though.

>Why do we still have to pull a trigger to fire a gun?
Maybe because we have human hands?
And buttons/triggers are the most responsive way to do things based on our anatomy?
Basically the same reason why VR/touch will never be dominant within the /v/ world. VR controls are just too imprecise other than the actual buttons/sticks. Touch works ok for simple stuff like phone/tablet games. But even the best games touchscreens have to offer still play so much better with controller or mouse/keyboard since you have much better control of what you are doing.
>Why not have it linked up to a voice command
Voice control is utter shit, the worst by far. Slow responding shit that requires too much thinking and wasted time instead of just hitting a simple button or swiping a touchpad on instinct.
>or button press?
So you put a trigger shaped "button" and have electronically primed ammunition. The experience would be roughly the same, and more prone to failure vs current trigger groups.

Wow, they actually kind of are. Make your own my friend.

* laser guided: mortar rounds, grenade rounds, artillery shells
(this way you launch them and on their way down they navigate to the target, so they're accurate as hell)
* standardized release-fire triggers similar to the Echo Trigger
(because then they're even more effective than full auto, plus civilian legal)
* High caliber vehicle mounted sniper weapon systems. Semi auto 15mm or 20mm marksman capable weapon system able to hit shit 2 miles away. Chain driven or something, semi automatic not full auto.
(why chug out 50 rounds of .50 when 2-3 of this does the same job and penetrates hard targets better too)
- - -
Coulda had all this shit over 15 years ago.
>>32149013
* Caseless Firearms powered by electrical pulse and binary propellant explosives sprayed into the firing chamber.
- your smokeless powder is now liquid
- comes in tubes that run the length of the gun
- separates the propellant from the ammunition
- bullets are literally just bullets now, metal slugs in magazines
Now you have an M-41A pulse rifle.
>>32149093
>binary propellant explosives
best have them at opposite ends of the weapon
>>32149093
I came up with a similar idea as a young child drawing war pictures.
I drew guns that basically had a liquid tank below that the gun fed out of.
>>32146317
Technically they weren't infinite. If I remember the lore from the best Effect, they used JEWS IN SPAAAACE!! Magic to shave miniscule particles off an internal metal block and launch them at Ludicrous Speed so those metal shavings are able to go the plaid in order to impart Schwartz level energy on the target.
>>32148990
not always super easy, think nixies require really high voltages that can be a hassle and somewhat of a danger.
>>32149753
I believe you are correct, as I remember hearing/reading something similar about the guns in Mass Effect. May the Schwartz be with you.
>>32142398
>FIRE FIRE FIRE FIRE
I think you understand how retarded you are now, OP.
>>32149753
Yea but it's effectively limitless - since they talk about how tiny the shavings are and all. Let me live my fantasy dammit
>>32146055
Pretty sure that's the singer for Weedeater
Because that would be stupid, not only would firefights consist of people yelling "FIRE!" at each other, suppressors would be rendered useless because they don't suppress their user's voice command.

>POP for Pistols

The powers that be are starting to realize that no faster they make a rule, there is some pro gunner willing to make a twist and bypass it anyway.
Adding a circuit to an electronic trigger to make it auto fire is no different than tying a string on an AR/AK , or a bump fire stock, let alone putting a simple dremel shaped piece of metal into the action.
Even if you pot the electronic ignition for guns/rifles in epoxy to prevent tampering, some anti-gun geek will make a hack to show that there is a workaround at the trigger itself.
Fucking shills exist to promote their ideology.
If one was to look for a cheap electronic igniter for black powder, muzzle loaders, or firing some new caseless ammo, it can be found already.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Nm6PEdBcQ6s
This engineer open sourced the idea, on his web site. Basically it's a $4 CRT monitor power supply, a few photo flash capicitors, and a kicker transformer.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=1OJnNei0MF4
Great for SHTF when the ammo runs dry, you cant find primers, and you can always make muzzle loader or simple cannon electric fired.
>>32150513
Not very dangerous at 100V at only a 1 milliamp being generated by a 12VDC power supply. Use a 555 timer to run a small flyback transformer to kick it up to 100VDC.
Just don't stick your tongue on the 1 watt of electricity connections.
>>32148875
Surplus board with gold/copper alloy from 1966 $5, leftover nixies from a surplus pile on ebay $20, old IC sockets for wire wrapping, $5, Basic Stamp or an arduino $20.
>>32142398
We already tried buttons.
They're just not as comfy.
And voice commands would be a pain in the ass in terms of not working because loltooloud, not to mention the weight of the microphone and shit.
The only real improvement we could or really ought to make in terms of triggers is more snow/winter triggers.
How about an ir motion detector as a trigger? Zero pound trigger pull. Sure you lose reliability, but could it have a place as a bench queen novelty?

What's with the serial port? You controlling it with a PC or is that just for putting code to a micro?
