Looking for CLP for my first handgun. Anyone use FrogLube? Any good?
>>
No I like Ballistol

Used to use it. It's a pain in the ass.

If you follow the instructions to the letter, heating the gun up with a hair dryer, scrubbing the shit in, letting it set, wiping EVERYTHING off... it works pretty good. It also takes entirely too much time and effort.

If you try to use it like a normal lube, your gun will start to get gummy and will have all sorts of problems.

If you were looking at it just because you want something non-toxic to use indoors, look at Mpro-7. I switched to that, and it's been great.
>>
It's garbage - use Breakfree CLP with a combination of graphite grease.
>>
>>32138479

Fireclean is shit, and I'm surprised to see you of all people still buy into it.
>>
>>32138569

break free has been shit since 2004 when the formula changed, its not even mil spec anymore.
>>
>>32138571
It's sarcasm. I think all gun lubes are nothing more than snake oil.

I fell for the meme and the rancid crisco oil left in my Benelli M4 completely shut down the weapon after a period of 6 months being unfired.

Ended up pouring 3 full bottles of it down the sink after that. It's back to Slip 2000 and TW-25B for me. Bio based lubricants a shit.
>>
>>32138479
I just read something about fire clean being nothing but vegetable oil.

Apparently frog lube is coconut oil with additives to keep it from congealing.

I'm not knocking either but it's pretty neat they're that simple.

I just use CLP. Just out of habit though, not because I think it's anything special.
>>
>>32138429
Slip2000 or ballistol, nontoxic is the way to go
>>
>>32138586
Break free and Rothco have been switching back and forth for contracts since the 70's. The military uses whatever is lowest bidder, people have this notion since its milspec it must be super duper operator. It's just what they could find within their parameters for the cheapest amount.

There is absolutely nothing wrong with break free.
>>
>>32138672
Slip2k is awesome, ballistol for everything else. Fireclean, though I never use the term, actually is a marketing meme.

Tbh I like Froglube. I don't bother with a hairdryer. I rub it in, wipe it down, reapply a light coat. Works great on my AR, bolt action rifles, semi-automatic pistols etc.
>>
I use froglube on handgun rails, and bolt rails. I use CLP on pistol barrels and belted belts when necessary.

The froglube works well on rifles that vent gas toward other gun parts. The ACR vents gas downward toward the barrel. A light coat of froglube on the barrel and you can wipe the unburnt powder and carbon with a paper towel.
>>
>>32140454
>belted belts

Beltfed belts
>>
>>32138429
I use Ballistol.
>>
>>32138429
Worked mostly fine for me, but it got kind of gunked up after long term (6+ months) storage, and gets sticky in the cold (<40F).
>>
>>32138672
so what exactly is in slip2000? It claims to be non-toxic, and usually, that means it's bio based, no?
>>
>>32141087
isn't froglube derived from cocnut oil?

I used frog lube for a bit, since the lh9 comes with it from the factory, so i bought a small kit along with it.

it gummed up in cold weather. after a year or so of following the instructions (reading isn't hard, but fanboys will assume you not rtfm) and dealing with a slide that doesn't slide freely (and some FTEs), i decided to strip the froglube and just clean and lube with mpro7, which i use on everything else.
>>
>>32138429
Hickok45 converted me to Ballistol for all general cleaning needs, carry a small bottle of hoppes no. 9 though in case I need to lube something up at the range.
>>
>>32138569
Someone told me to never use graphite or graphite based anything on guns. Apparently it's abrasive. But I've used graphite on my longboard bearings and they've worked through salt and water basically
>>
>>32141384
Water-based solvents, actually. Works well in my experience. Maybe not the best, but the whole non-toxic thing is pretty nice.
>>
>>32141397
idk maybe, I tried tasting it but the mint is really overpowering so I couldn't tell
>>
I use Mobil 1 5w-30 synthetic oil and Mobil 1 grease where needed. Cheap and no failures.

I even use the oil in case prep for reloading. Rifle cases get a bit of oil, sized/deprimed and then tumbled again. No stuck cases.
>>
>>32141476
Is Hoppe's a lubricant too? I know it other uses, such as cologne. Wasn't it was made to dissolve copper?

I just use ballistol because its "green" and I think it smells okay. Plus, the nazis invented it, so it must be great.

hoppes isn't just a solvent, it's a brand with multiple products. they make lubes as well.
>>
Froglube is overpriced garbage. Ballistol is all you'll need. I liked hoppes 9 and rem oil better than froglube and so did my firearms.
>>
>>32142550
>overpriced garbage

Overpriced yes

Garbage no. It really is an excellent lubricant.

t. Ballistol user
>>
What the fuck is CLP? It cleans and lubes and oils? Sounds like some bullshit.

Solvent + Grease + Oil

wow im a fucking genius now
>>
>>32142512
Nice smooth action
>>
>>32141430
Mpro7 is fuckin great
>>
>>32142800
This. Mpro7 is now my favorite lube. It made my finicky piston AR actually work and doesn't stink.

I use Remoil wipes out of convenience (tears into patches, no stink, cheap) and CLP for cleaning but Mpro7 is the best lube so far.

I've tried slip 2000 but I can't say if it's better. Seems alright.
>>
>>32138597
Came to the thread to post this link.

Nothing particularly wrong with FrogLube. I actually kind like the paste for a surface coat, but there are cheaper alternatives.

I've started using Lucas gun oil as a general lube. My theory is since they make automotive oils and additives they actually have people with backgrounds in making proper oils for machinery, unlike all the gun oil companies. That and I got the bottle free.
>>
>>32142759
Basically. You """save""" money by buying one product that sucks at all three rather than buying the proper product for the job.

That said basically anything works as lube and protectant if you use enough, often enough.

Ballistol.

I used to use CLP, but ballistol doesn't stink or make me worry about cancer.

Safe for wood/leather too.
>>
I just use ballistol for cleaning and hoppes for lube

>>
For those of you who can't find M-Pro 7, Hoppe's Elite is apparently the same shit since they bought out M-Pro earlier this decade. Their foaming bore cleaner is the tits.
>>
For rifles Froglube was okay. Pistols it turned into a sticky mess. For my reloading press it rusted anyway.

I'm treating it as a non toxic cosmoline since it does work when absolutely covered. But I've switched over to weapon shield.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=abBKYE8lP7o

If only it were cheaper I would use it on all my guns. I have plenty of Breakfree and Froglube to handle those for a while though.
>>
>>32144877
How does MPro foaming bore cleaner compare to WipeOut?

I've been using Wipe Out and been really happy.
>>
>>32138429

lol
>>
>>32138429
That stuff is shit, switch to SLiP 2000
>>
>>32144920
I've never tried WipeOut, but MPro just tears through most carbon buildup and whatnot that accumulates on my AR bolt. Made short work of some 70+ years worth of grime, powder, and carbon buildup in an M1 carbine that was probably last cleaned in Berlin too.

Anyone had any luck with Rand CLP? I am currently split between trying rand clp vs. MPro. I am looking for a non-toxic gun product that I need to store my guns with for the next 3-4 months while away from home.

That's all well and good if you have a spinning race riding on a shitty bearing surface. There are far more scientific ways to measure the things that are important in firearms, and guess what; usually you need several types of lube for proper operation. Of course you can get by with "good enough", Russia has proved that for years.

This guys videos are no different than RIP ammo shooting ballistic gel with a machine gun to show how devastating their ammo is, instead of performing a proper test with calibrated gel and a proper measurement.

>>32146070

What qualities does 3 in 1 oil posses that makes it better than frog lube? I'm not a fan of frog lube but right now your argument is "Nuh uh".
