What do you do when you ask to hold a gun at a gun store?

Hold it.

Don't aim it at his face or the faces of other customers

Aim at his face and the faces of other customers

Dry-fire the shit out of it.

"Can I dry fire this?"
"Sure."
"Can I insert this into my ass?"
>>
>>32138246
I pretend not to know anything about it or guns in general just to ask them questions and have them either give a recited speech about it or just straight up bullshit and lie to me about it.

Ask if it's alright to dry fire. (They say yes 98% of the time but it's polite).

Immediately yell "STOP!" and then drop into an isosceles stance while dry firing the shit out of it before "scanning and assessing" like a fucking douchebag.

Put it in my mouth pull the trigger.

If no boom then say "damn maybe next time"

Then ask to hold another one

Do you want to be overly autistic about it?
> ask to see gun
> pick up gun from counter top (not from his hands)
> release mag (if applicable)
> rack slide
> rack slide again
> rack slide and lock it
> view the barrel to insure there isn't a round in the chamber
> release slide lock
> keep finger off the trigger
> KEEP YOUR GOD DAMN FINGER OFF THE TRIGGER
> point it in a safe direction, away from anyone or anything
> if you want to dry fire it, ask first, and ask for a snap cap
> with it pointed in a safe direction, dry fire it
> rack the slide
> rack it again
> lock the slide
> hand the gun back to the salesman

There you go, aspy.
>>
>>32138485
The guy is holding a seventeen round magazine though, so I doubt it.
>>
>>32138444

Just like I told you in that thread. That guy has more freedom than you ever will ...Why? He doesn't give a shit what other ppl think of him. For that, he knows what true freedom is...Or what Ralph Waldo Emerson once said "to be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you some thing else is the greatest accomplishment"

You're just a jelly faggot.

why the fuck is dry firing ok for handguns i always thought it fucks up the firing pin on rimfire
>>
>>32138648
Would like more info on this

Also gunshop fag, please tell us close call stories
>>
>>32138648
most modern guns don't let the firing pin hit something if not a primer. Rimfire is a notable exception, but most handguns aren't in rimfire now are they...
>>
>>32138444
How do you feel when customers dry fire without asking? I caught myself doing that just the other day, clerk didn't seem to mind but I still felt rude about it even knowing the dry firing is bad thing is just fudd lore bullshit.
>>
>>32138246
1. All guns are always loaded. Even if they are not, treat them as if they are.

2. Never let the muzzle cover anything you are not willing to destroy. (For those who insist that this particular gun is unloaded, see Rule 1.)

3. Keep your finger off the trigger till your sights are on the target. This is the Golden Rule. Its violation is directly responsible for about 60 percent of inadvertent discharges.

4. Identify your target, and what is behind it. Never shoot at anything that you have not positively identified

5. Never dry fire a gun in a public place (see Rules 1., 2., 3. and 4.)
>>
>>32138441
Leave your stupid comments in your pocket.

Also, fun fact... There's an IMFDB page for The Room... Tommy kills himself with the airsoft knockoff of a 92FS INOX.
>>
I never dry fire in gun stores, I let the hammer down by pulling the trigger and resting it gently.

Also I know its just for safety but there was this one chick working the counter at a gun store i dont usually go to and every gun i asked to look at she literally shoved her pinkie inside the internal part of the barrel. She did it EVERYTIME. You can just look and see theres no bullet. Like why shove your pinkie in there
>>
>>32138284
Lold.
>>
>>32138754
Have you never dry fired a gun innastore? most places are cool with it.

>confirmed for never actually buying a gun from a store
>or maybe just being kind of weird about it
>>
>>32138770
I honestly can't imagine buying a gun without feeling the trigger first.
>>
>>32138793
stores need to sell guns, so they will let this safety issue slide as no one will buy guns they cant handle first, but its still a safety issue

>low sweeping footwork
>almost draw my USP
>twisting
>his wife(?) starts screaming
>wrestle gun from him
>eject round from chamber
>almost punch him in face
>he stands down
>just some retarded middle class dad who wanted to buy an extra mag
>escorted out
>throw his carry ammo in the bucket

I have a bunch of these

>>32138746
least of my worries. I care far more about people suddenly drawing their own guns for stupid reasons, or muzzle sweeping. If you check clear after I check clear and hand to you, and don't muzzle sweep, I feel a lot better and don't even think twice if you dry fire without asking.

Very old guns may have weakened firing pins after decades of abuse, and some but not all rimfires do not have firing pin blocks which prevent the firing pin from impacting the face of the barrel (Such as the Savage Mark II for example). Apart from those specific exceptions, it is always perfectly fine to dry fire a pistol (or any gun) as often as you like, especially modern ones. Usually even rimfire.

But always ask the shop first, a lot of shops are owned by angry, narcissistic fudds who get angry when you dry fire a brand new gun even though it does nothing.

Yeah, if people are really stupid I keep the ammo. They might get it back if they notice or make a fuss about it, depending,.

You know, I can't even be upset by comments like this>>32139135 when it comes down to it really. You see, the sheer limitless stupidity which I deal with on a regular basis is truly unbelievable.

A few years ago I too would not have believed that people are so incredibly stupid. Though, some of the behaviour I encounter at work is due to people who have mental illness, people who are senile, etc. I do see people like that and they do behave dangerously. I am exposed to them due to the large volume of customers I deal with throughout the week.

I work at a sporting goods store and one day about 30 min before I left some dad and daughter came in and looked at a ruger sr22. While they were looking the dad was showing the daughter how to work the gun and she got her finger caught in the chamber while releasing the slide and started bleeding and screaming. I had to stay late and clean that piece of shit until everyone was convinced there was no blood on the gun. not the most exciting but it sucked.

The clerk is a salesmen at the end of the day and want to try and sell it to you. Unless theyre an ass they should be helpful and encourage you to hold a few. Its also important that you are respectful of their property and show them you have some basic knowledge on how to handle a gun

Different shopfag here. I had a woman come in today with her husband. They were both old, and she looked like she could care less about any of this, arms folded, sunglasses still on, sighing and doing everything she can to seem like she'd rather be in Auschwitz or Buchenwald as opposed to in a gun store. Her husband has a list of guns he wants """""her""""" to look at. He proceeds to list off every heavy as fuck semi-auto with a hammer he can think of. She picks each one up, whines it's too heavy, and puts it back. I go to hand her something after looking at the first few and she proceeds to point it directly at me, finger on the trigger, at head level. I don't even care about having guns I give to customers pointed at me anymore, since I check them beforehand. I've found that it's a waste of time to try and instill good gun safety in them since half the time they get pissy and try to explain to me how the gun isn't loaded.

It was funny when the guy told me he likes guns to have hammers because he's an "old revolver guy", and when I ask him if he plans on running a modern semi-auto as a single-action, he looked like he had discovered the cure to cancer, world peace, and the Jews. He then proceeded to do the best impression of Hickock's awkward grandpa chuckle I've ever heard.

Some pistols I like / like to sell:
Glock 19
S&W Shield
CZ P-07
CZ P-09
CZ 75D PCR (never have any)
CZ 74B Compact (never have any)
H&K P2000
H&K USP 45

Guns I hate / hate to sell
Sig P238 / P938
(almost been shot with several for some reason, people always talk about how much they like them. I hate them. ) also:

Hi-Point
Taurus
Canik
I'm sure there's lots of others I hate

I had a USP compact for a while because I played so much counterstrike as a kid. I haven't started hating guns, but I get autistic sometimes and change / buy / sell / trade guns too much and end up with guns I had before because of autism. Yes I can put guns aside for myself.

Walther PPK (rarely have one)
Nice S&W revolvers

0. If I'm not planning to buy, but want to handle a gun for future purchase, insert "I'm just browsing, but..." If they're busy and you're not in the market, don't take up their time.

1. "Can I take a look at the [type of gun]?" *point at the gun I want to look at*

2. I re-up my situational awareness, knowing where everyone around me is and where they're probably going to go (walkways, doorways, etc.)

3. Accept it from the clerk ("Thanks"), making sure not to point it towards anyone nor the shop dog, if there is one.

4. Quickly check the chamber even if the store clerk just fucking did it right in front of me.

5. Making sure I'm not sweeping anyone, look at both sides, check the crown from an angle, feel it the hand -- if all it good, assume a good grip/shoulder it. If I want to dry fire it, ask if it's okay. (If it's an antique or fancy, don't bother asking even if they'll probably say yes.)

6. Make non-idiot small talk with the clerk. If I like this or that about it, briefly mention it. Ask them any real questions you have. If I really don't like this or that, mention why briefly and then hand it back. If you are seriously considering buying it, signal this to the clerk so he/she won't think you're wasting his/her time.

Addendum: I prefer not to set any gun that isn't mine down on a bare counter. Make sure there is a pad, case or cloth down.

tl;dr: safety rules still apply, don't muzzle sweep, common courtesy, don't scratch it

I just bought a brand new Browning Buckmark. The manual very clearly states, "DO NOT DRY FIRE. DRYFIRING COULD CAUSE BREAKAGES OF KEEP PARTS RENDERING THE FIREARM NON-FUNCTIONAL"

The firing pin very clearly hits the chamber face, so I guess no dry firing it.

Look around to get an idea of what I want to see. Ask gun shop employee if I can see it. Be cautious not to muzzle sweep anyone and be courteous. I ask if I may dry fire it first before preceding to dry fire. Also make sure to gently set it back down on the counter. In the end whether I buy something or not, I thank them for their help.

I visually and physically inspect a gun every single time. Want to know why? I will never have an ND. You will be one of the guys that claims "everyone has one, someday." Wrong.

>>32140469
Yes, I might "forget to give their ammo back" if I think they are dumb enough to try and make the weapon hot again inside of the store. Fuck those people.

>>32142938
Nah faggot. Sorry to disappoint you on that. I don't have a legal obligation to re-arm someone who is currently posing a safety threat. Get fucked, nigger.

kek, management laughed the hardest and they already have a copy of the photos.

Lemme guess. You also call that square box thingie with the bullits inside "clip", right?
>>
>>32138648
Basically, the ocasional dry fire is OK, but repeated dry firing does have that effect. So, the rule of thumb is "don't, unless you NEED to". Checking the trigger when buying is one of the tmes you need to, but you should have enough with one (two at most) dry firings.

Califag here, whats a good /k/ approved sword to open carry?
>>
>>32142461
in this faggots defense, i didnt understand this concept until a few months into lurking on /k/, but you still get to be called a retard

when you chamber a round from the magazine, the extractor slides under the rim of the cartridge

when you physically put a round in the chamber then release the slide, the extractor is forced OVER the rim of the cartridge. You can very easily damage the extractor that way.

>>32145366
but those are clips, dumbfuck

ask if you can see something. Not that hard.
Also, have clean hands and a presentable appearance

Ask the gun store employee what weapon he's carrying. Then follow up with

Similar to what I do, but for me I do a basic disassembly of the gun to see how the internals are and just what is inside of it. I'm into guns for the mechanics, so I always do this whenever possible

I was at LGS. Looking for a small .380 for my wife to CC. Finger fuck a Beretta Pico and a River LCP. Store owner tells me he carries a S&W Bodyguard. I ask to see one. He pulls his from his holster and hands it to me. Fucker has one in the chamber. I release the mag and rack the slide. The store owner isnt phased at all. Gives no fucks he handed me his loaded weapon. Ended up buying a bodyguard for the misses.

You do not have a legal right to seize someones property.

Enjoy the inevitable charges.

>cops tell dangerous idiot not to return

>>32138485
no not Cali this time. The only time handguns get "banned" is when they fall off our "roster" of approved guns. This can only happen on Jan 1st.

fyi our "approved" hand guns roster is the biggest pile of shit. Essentially if a handgun model is changed in the slightest way, they consider a new model.
Now here is the catcher: no model can be added to the roster unless it "safe", and they have made the legal definition of "safe" as having microstamping technology that stamps the serial number and model of the gun on every cartridge that is fired.

>mfw microstamping technology doesnt actually exist

serious question (I am a newguns) and was at LGS doing ppt on saturday, and some fudd looking guy was buying some wood milsurp nugget/sks type rifle. At one point he held it up and start looking down the barrel.
The guy I was buying from (military haslotsofguns) commented how often he sees people do that kind of stuff.

Checking bore: wrong or right?

(the fudd was clearly buying the rifle)
>>
>>32151909
nothing wrong with checking the bore of a rifle mane
>>
>>32151909
I do it, especially when shopping for anything used. You can clear it first if you want to show you're a good little /k/ommando that follows the rules of gun safety. But the only way to inspect the muzzle is to look at it.
