Salvation War or Gate? You can see the adoration of the author for the militaries and gear he describes, and as a result it becomes like a child trying to one-up everyone in a game of pretend rather than interesting conflicts.
I'm not japanese or american, btw, so I don't really care about the power levels of the US forces and the JSDF.

Cyberpunk with a hair of post apoc.

You follow various people, but mostly the son of a cartel boss, trying to survive in this world, while a plague is ruining what's left of the world.
Expect tons of factions duking it out, with various criminal syndicates and governemental agencies.

In Gate they barely managed to get a team into Japan once the foreign VIPs were announced, and then the location for the planned engagement changed like 5 times.

It ended up at a government safehouse that the Americans thought was just a hotel, and they walked right into a trap because the higher ups forced them to rush in blind. Japan had UAVs and cameras in place, while the foreign special forces had zero support air or UAV support.

Then a demigod attacked and murdered all of them. They shot her but bullets didn't hurt her.

I have no idea why people are upset with this. Seals and delta have their good days and bad.

Yeah I guess this is the worst part about the anime/manga. While the idea of some high-fantasy style enemy invader being wrecked by powerful modern day military weaponry pretty sweet. The whole nationalistic bullcrap is what pretty much turned me off and or made it bad.

Frankly if there was going to be another "high-fantasy-enemies-invades-or-attacks-modern-day-industrial-civilization-and-get-beaten-by-superior-modern-day-firepower" setting. It'd be better if it were in a fictional setting with fictional countries and nations and not set in the real world. Sounds reasonable?
