So, has the SAA started anything in northern Aleppo yet?
>>
>>32123793
So here is my fairest assessment from the recent SAA advances into eastern Aleppo. Pro SAA sources claim all of Hanano. SOHR claims fighting is still ongoing in Hanano with no further info. Pro rebel sources claim they have retaken parts of Hanaano.

tl;dr rebels are losing eastern Aleppo but as SRO's labeled in this map "slowly but surely"

Meanwhile southern front re launched their Quneitra offensive after their minor gains on a hill checkpoint last time with little result so far however a lot of SAA casualties. Reason being? They know they are next when eastern Aleppo falls.

As far as Al Bab not much has happened today other than further Turkish FSA gains on small IS villages. There was a US Navy EOD solider killed a couple of days ago involved in the YPG/SDF Raqqa offensive and that is where most of IS action is at. YPG is stalled in northern Raqqa after rapid advances in the beginning. This all could be related to Turkish FSA attacking YPG near Al Bab. YPG/SDF are losing their commitment on Raqqa with Turkish FSA on the march.

I think Hezbollah is the biggest winner out of all in this shitstorm of a war. Sure they lost some of their seniors getting btfo by Israel covert air strikes but their new blood now has a valuable combat experience and they get shitload of arms including chance to play with t90s. I wonder how the Ruskies feel about that.

I've seen alot of Israeli sources writing about that in particular, that they'll need to step up their training since Hezbollah will be ready for next time. The tanks are less relevant since they wouldn't be helpful in a conflict with Israel anyways, they don't have the ability to protect them from air strikes.

I don't know what map that is but yes the SAA did take all of Hanano.

I was checking Step to see if anything was new and didn't expect anything at this time but one tweet is getting attention. Apparently IS bombing SAA held Deir Ezzor city with armed drones again. I want to see the footage of this. IS has drones capable of dropping ordinance of some type.

Wouldn't be surprised if it's something similar to the drone bombs we saw from the FSA during the fight to re-siege Aleppo, ie a 330ml soft drink bottle bomb dropped from a quadcopter using the cam facing straight down for rudimentary aiming.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-38123829
BBC reporting SAA having retaken Hanano district and heavy fighting now in Sakhur.
>>32123793
If they take Sakhur as well as holding the last couple of days gains it would leave any forces in the far north of Aleppo isolated, and mean nearly 50% of the Aleppo pocket would have fallen in a relatively short timeframe. It wont be over by christmas as I'm sure things will only get tougher as the rebels get compressed into their last few districts, but if things continue at even close to this rate in north and east Aleppo it could be all oger early in 2017 at least.
>>
>>32132432
They really made some fast advances there.
Are there any statements from rebel side about why they lost so many clay that fast?

>tougher as the rebels get compressed into their last few districts,

Maybe. But maybe they will give up even faster then. We will see.
>>
Seeing the Israelis bomb IS in Golan, thats kinda interesting. Didn't they always bomb SAA in the past whenever some mortar shells landed in their territory?
>>
>>32125956
That shot never fails to give me a chubby
>>
>>32132446
Don't think they've acknowledged the latest losses yet so no reasoning from the rebels yet either.
Sure it IS possible they're in a completely demoralised collapse and SAA are going to blitz though the whole of Aleppo in short order, but there's been so many occasions already where one side looks like being on course for glorious victory only for an assault to grind to a halt and remain static for weeks/months or even get reversed that I'm not going to get carried away with too much hype. Time and again in this conflict the unexpected/outright 'impossible' happens.

>>32132463
I haven't kept tabs on who exactly has been responsible in the past but perhaps it's either been the SAA or unclear enough whether it was them or not that shot into Israel in the past so they got bombed, but this time it was clear enough exactly who did it so Israel blapped them. Why exactly some IS thought it would be a good idea to shoot at Israel when that typically ends badly for anyone idk, then again it's hardly like things being a good idea or not factor into plenty of their decisions.

I'd assume they will stay cautious with a lot of troop presence in the north because of the turks and their FSA-friends.
Even if Aleppo would be entirely captured, Erdogan and his guys are not really predictable nor trustworthy. Anything could happen there and this can get dangerous for the SAA quick.
>>
>>32134461
Imagine the chaos of prolonged bombardments and constant attacks. Then one key building falls and the word "position xy is fallen, assad dogs are breaking through" with no possibility for the neighboring positions to confirm this.
Panic will spread fast in such a scenario and they probably assumed they are the last ones there and retreated or surrendered because they thought to be surrounded or soon to be overran.
>>
>>32134405
>Who are the good guys and who are the bad guys?
Depends on who you ask, sadly you're not going to get an unbiased account from most people, so I'll give you the very short version of the whole fucking war...

>Arab spring shit starts
>people in syria protest for more freedoms too
>Assad starts reprisals on the people
>major uprising begins all over the place
>multiple factions including jihadis
>but also a large mostly-secular coalition, known as the 'FSA' (Free Syrian Army)
>this group includes large numbers of army defectors who left Assad after he bombed civies
>the Kurds are involved too, largely fighting ISIS or anyone else who tries to fuck with the Kurds
>the war drags on...
>for years...
>gradually the moderate rebels among the FSA are squeezed out by the radical factions
>and most of the soldiers who originally defected return to Assad's army to fight against their former allies
>and nothing else changes
>the US continues to support some rebel factions with political bias generally determining whether someone says they are moderates or jihadis
>Russians have always been supporting Assad and have stepped up that support with actual military assets for about 2 years now
>there's been some debate about whether each side is spending more time fighting the civil war, or fighting ISIS
That middle part, where moderates actually existed for a time, is the part that often gets omitted.

As for the good and bad...
ISIS is bad, the vast majority of the rebels are bad, Russia and the US are just having a game of chess like they did in the cold war, Assad isn't good but he's far from ISIS and the like so that makes him the de-facto best choice. While the Kurds could almost be said to be treating things almost as a self-defense issue.

Whilst there's certainly been more pronounced co-operation recently the Aleppo Kurds had come to an agreement with the SAA some time ago not to dick with each other, it wouldn't be unreasonable to think that elsewhere they're sensing the endgame is in the not too distant future and have decided/realised that a negotiated settlement with Assad in a post-IS scenario is highly likely to be a better outcome for them than fighting both him and Turkey, so they're making an effort to play nice and avoid any more flashpoints to be best positioned when the inevitable talks for "what next?" happen.

The rebels still have the whole Idlib province.
But it will be a huge moral blow (esepcially after those 2 failed offensives to break the siege during the last month).

It will free 50-100k Pro-Assad soldiers and alot of aircraft to go elsewhere though.
>>
>>32135325
>What happens when aleppo falls to government forces?
It frees up significant resources to be redirected to other areas.
>Is it all ogre for the rebels or will this shit continue onward to raqqa and the eastern countryside.
Raqqa is about IS so somewhat a separate party, Aleppo is a big flagship for the FSA but far from their only remaining pocket, however the problem they have is that as each place gets retaken there's more and more resources to throw at what they do have left. Whilst they'll still be around for a bit it's another step along the road of SAA snowballing into having more and more resources to throw at ever fewer FSA enclaves which is just going to speed up their fall.
>>
>>32134754

A post from a SAA-affiliated group on FB:

>Earlier today, after number of terrorists fled their positions in Halak, and upon reaching what they thought is a safe-zone; a Spec-Ops unit of the Syrian Arab Army infiltrated inside the not yet liberated parts of Aleppo and eliminated the terrorists killing every last one of them. The unit returned safe to the Syrian Arab Armed Forces and Allies lines.
Sure, there is no proof but these guys have provided true information and insights a lot of times in the past so i tend to believe them.
They also have team members in various SAA-units across the country.

Watching the fresh action in Syria this morning. Nothing on Aleppo yet. The first reports I see are at besieged city "Tal Damascus" I think it's called where like the recent reduced Khan Sheeh camp was offered buses to Idlib after a large SAA military attack however so far this city rebels have declined any ceasefire and the SAA has responded by shelling them.

The other is in eastern Homs partly near Shaer/western Palmyra. These battles have been ongoing for weeks with IS violently repelling SAA/NDF, attacking them plus Ruaf airstrikes however eastern Aleppo over rides everything I don't mention it.

The thing to remember is SAA pulled out their Iraqi shia militia help in eastern Homs to Aleppo so basically IS is shitting on the one's left.

>this group includes large numbers of army defectors who left Assad after he bombed civies

>That middle part, where moderates actually existed for a time, is the part that often gets omitted.

If it was really just Assad commanding the Sunni soldiers that make up 70% of the SAA rank and file to kill unarmed coreligionist protestors, the army would have turned on him en masse long ago, just like the Shah of Iran.

The problem was that the protesters started killing people right from the start, which put the rest of the government apparatus into a kill or be killed situation.

Now eastern Aleppo back to dominating the wires. Multiple airstrikes plus further SAA advancement. The collapse continues.

I was there, utter bs. 2 confirmed that we saw, maybe as many as 5 ypg dead in the initial blast. Upwards of 3 wounded. Rubble has still yet to be cleared due to the UXO. My CO is visiting the hospital to check on the wounded that we treated and to get the final numbers.
No white monkeys hurt.

Whole thing was a tad hectic and guys ran right past us with wounded and put them in Hiluxs before we could treat them which is why we dont have the proper numbers.

Assad is lucky Obama never fully committed to taking him down, he clearly had reservations after stupidly eliminating Mubarak and Gaddafi, and after seeing what happened when Bush II took down Sadam

Once the elections ramped up, it was clear that some Democrats and Republicans had reservations about the US being the World Police (Trump and Bernie), so once Clinton lost, any chance of a Assad being knocked out went away with it

Ah not too much to tell I'm afraid.
I suppose I was just super bored back home and had been following the civil war intently for a couple of years just because I just found it fascinating. I'd considered joining the YPG earlier but school or work prevented me but I was approaching a natural break between what I was doing and what I wanted to do.

Then last year there was a thread about the YPG with the first post being "So /k/, how come you haven't joined them yet?" I replied with a shitty greentext, got talking with an anon who turned out to be the OP and dumped a randomly generated email in the thread so he could contact me and establish a proper line of contact. We did exactly that but pther anons just started emailing the RanGen email i still had open in my tabs, and that's how I ended up in the middle of, and organising, a 4Chan holiday to Syria.

The guys that contacted me in the first thread turned out to be the most serious and the core of the group with others being invited in if any of us saw an anon expressing wht looked like interest in making the same trip in other threads and the like, couple of active recruiting efforts but mostly passive. The group (or perhaps more accurately-the mailing list) got to about 12 strong at one point but people just stopped replying, we probably had like another 15 people make initial contact and just not reply past the first email. Probably lost the password or something.

So the group would just chat about gear, the geopolitical situation, plans on getting in, training etc. Things kinda ground to a halt after the boarder closed and messed up the original leave date(month more like), so another guy - the fellow Brit - and myself arranged to leave the UK together and train in Europe so we wouldn't get comfortable at home.
>>
>>32143253
>>32144392
2/2
So I leave home telling my friends and family that I'm backpacking through Europe and travel across the country to meet a stranger off the internet at the airport. Turned out to be a pretty cool guy, became good friends.

Now, the original plan was to do outdoorsie labour in some mountains and train, but 2 weeks in we gave up on that partly because it was BS, partly because we had an offer to go to a rave in a party town the otherside of the country. We then spent the next month working in this coastal party town, squatting in an abandoned hotel with a group of cave people whom I had befriended and mentored in the art of flyering, just pretty much playing Fallout by day to scavange for items to make the place livable, and working at night. We finally got the go ahead from the YPG but went via another country or two for another month for some military and additional medical training.

On the flight into Iraq our ingenious plan of pretending not to know one another so as to hopefully increase the chance of atleast one of us making it through, failed spectacularly as we were two of three whiteys out of a plane full to the brim of Kurds and Arabs. Now we kinda expected that but we were also sat next to one another for the duration of the flight lol. Customs wasn't an issue which was hilarious as I have a very obvious military pack (5.11 RUSH24 in OD full of medical supplies) and a bergan with plate carrier, plates, frag belt, uniforms etc etc. No issue. Random white civvie chap behind me? Stopped for having a pair of binos in his bag.

We then make it over the boarder without issue but in the end the second anon felt it really wasn't for him; a combination of constantly being ill, Turks being Turks, and I think it just not being what he expected, he called it a month in as we finished training.

So thats my blog post. Sorry it took a while both to post and read, but you asked for it and I had to provide medical cover for the demining guys.

They reject to accept buddies? You didnt plan to ask to be assigned together somewhere? I cant imagine going in dunecoon landia with the culture let alone the language barrier without a friend to keep me sane and converse with. Did you get a chance to fire your weapon at Jihadis or the Kurds keep westerners back?

Oh no sorry that was just KRG customs, we told the YPG we were a pair. Yeah sticking with other westeners is a must. You can keep one another alive when the real chaos starts. As I mentioned in the GQ thread just accept he Kurdish way, that everything takes forever, how they wont see you as the saviour of Kurdistan(oddly enough), how they probably wont trust you esp unless you do more than the minimum 6months. But if there's fighting, and you want to go, and you haven't fucked up, you'll fight.

I have yet to fire my weapon in anger. I came at the end of manbij

They are much more paramilitary than SWAT units, but they are ministry of internal affairs, that's why it's so strange.

The most logical explanation I think would be he is an advisor.

Unless it's some separate Russian ministries doing separate combat shit independently of each other.

I'm on a watchlist in my country and I am currently stalked and randomly questionned or teased, or even blatantly insulted, by people I don't know, about stuff that should not be of their concern. I also see them very frequently (several times a week) in random places I went to, not regularly, at random hours, and always in a manner for me to not miss them.

One of my friends has an aunt who used to be an informer for the intelligence gathering police, who are inflitrators of syndicates, political parties and the like, and she told him word for word "be careful about those you speak with" while explicitely talking about me, since she quoted the city I live in and my friend has no other friend in that fairly big (1 million+) city.

I'm not a pedo.
I don't dress with ideologicaly-related clothes.
I'm not doing drugs nor dealing them.
I'm not religious nor a radical extremist.
I don't have a police record.
I never was involved in a demonstration.
I'm not in any political party or workers syndicate and don't know anyone in them.
I don't comment on social medias or I keep it civil enough.

The only thing I do is browsing /pol/ and /k/. I did download the do/k/ument years ago though, and while being noguns for years now, I'm still relatively knowledgeable about them.

if this is enough to be on a watchlist and getting stalked, then I bet you are too, right ?
If you're not, then tell me why I am ?

You have no clues anon. You simply have no clues.

I am reading some pro rebel takes on what's left the eastern Aleppo pocket which is 32 km2 total space and 27km long front line. They still believe they can hold the southern neighborhoods. This is denial. What the SAA is doing with Russian help is closing the circle. There is no stalemate. They are simply trapped. It's over unless JFS pulls something out of their ass.

What i will agree on is these last lines won't break as easy and it'll be another month of grinding. It's a pure numbers game at this point.

I thought ISIS was doing a pretty professional job in that video actually, always waiting for the targets to stay still instead of shooting the first thing to move, clearly waiting long enough for the Iraqi army guys to establish themselves and get into a false sense of security and patient controlled follow up shots on other soldiers going in for the rescue. take into account they're also fighting a massive army (literally over 100,00 committed to Mosul) supplied with decent American and Russian equipment and air support, ISIS may be fucking morons but they do occasionally display resolve and professionalism for an irregular army

Retard.

That's what the videos are intended to show.

They're not going to show their overwhelming failures, suicidal attacks where their cannon fodder and slaves make suicidal runs and lose body parts.

Don't forget these are mostly Abu Hajars. They succeeded only against similar, militia-tier forces like the Iraqis and badly depleted SAA.

Never have they stood against a real military force.

Welp, I must admit Five Stars, you was right this time. I really underestimated the SAA & Friends, and overestimated the Rebels groups from inside of Aleppo proper. I expected a more organized resistence by the Rebels, and by all the time that the SAA was announcing and building up for the upcoming offensive I also expected that the Rebels could have made some preparations to drag the SAA into slow and bloody urban fithing.

Congrats for the SAA soldiers.

>Never have they stood against a real military force.
ah the good old ISIS came out of nowhere meme, the backbone of there initial offensives in Iraq were largely veterans from fighting American forces, guess who won that counter insurgency operation? Western forces aren't a good benchmark for what an ideal modern army should be measured by because so far this decade they've failed quite dismally to win in nearly any measurable way a modern unconventional war (Afghanistan and Iraq being the best examples) while on the other hand the Iraqi army is less trained and disciplined they're far more willing to take losses and be aggressive without forcing there men to tip toe through a moral minefield while they're at it. Doctrine and political/ideological motivation are just as important as your metric fighting capability and Arabs have enough of it to fight a grueling unconventional war were as it appears the west does not. Maybe having a population that can be motivated to fight a war comes at the cost of intelligence and a bit of common sense in places but its outweighed by having the ability to actually wage a war whereas they'd probably find it laughable when the American media is in tears about western 10 soldiers getting blown up in a truck.

>>
>>32148465
Those got flanked and taken weeks ago.

5 star claimed they would continue being a bloodbath for the SAA.

The simple fact is that after the September reclosing of the Aleppo siege, the FSA lost all strategic capability. Now the ball is in the SAA's court unless the US or Turkey intervenes on the FSA side.
>>
>>32148621
I expect continued pushing from the North and an armored/mobile push from the southeast to make the FSA fear another entrapment.
>>
>>32148508
that's a pretty worthless generalization, that's like saying all white soldiers are all good at this or all bad at this, though maybe if you've come from /pol/ you might've lost enough critical thinking to see everything so black and white.
Some Arab groups have proven to be the opposite of all those things. a relatively small group of Hezbollah soldiers held up a vastly bigger Israeli force's incursion into Lebanon in 2006 to the point of stalemate, to quote an Israeli soldier who participated in the war Hezbollah was "nothing like Hamas or the Palestinians. They are trained and highly qualified. All of us were kind of surprised." there's other examples as well including foreign fighters btfo of Russians in Chechnya and more I cbf listing.

Also you have to take into account that lots of these Arab armies and militant groups are fighting wars where the enemy has the latest weaponry, air-support and/or there's a very real threat of being overrun, captured or your unit being wiped out. The last time a Western army fought a war where circumstances like that were even slightly possible morale and discipline was horrendous (Vietnam) and even now with an all volunteer army I'd still be surprised to what extent the American army could withstand losing lots of men fighting an unconventional force with modern ATGM's, AA weapons, UAV's, equipment and training from foreign special forces for any prolonged amount of time.
