Multicam still tends to stick out quite a bit in woodland environments from what I've seen. It's a bit too brown and desaturated for most forests in the spring / summer. Basically the same problem as UCP but not as pronounced. CADPAT still seems to be one of, if not the most effective for most green environments.

Honestly, what the fuck is the Army even doing? Multicam isn't quite the fucking atrocity that UCP was but it's still pretty... not good. It's be one thing if it was just a temporary measure until they could adopt something decent, but by all means it seems to be a permanent switch. Why replace one ineffective camo with another? Matter of fact, why can't the entire US military just share camo patterns like MARPAT? It wasn't a problem back when every single branch was wearing M81.

Fundamental problem of camos like basic Multicam is that you cannot hide in plain sight without shade anyway and the pattern doesn't matter all that much if you have partial concealment.

So you should seek to use a camo that does well in relatively shady places, such as Flecktarn - no matter how atrocious is looks.

Problem with all striped camos is that plants usually grow vertically, so you want verticals stripes if any, but you rarely get that since the body is sometimes horizontal, sometimes vertical.

I think the real problem with multicam is the same as with UCP, again - they're using colors that aren't very common in nature and the contrast is very low.

It seems to me that the most effective camo patterns are ones like CADPAT that use a lot of dark or fully black splotches that mimick the shade that nature creates via leaves and other rough surfaces. The human body is a much smoother surface than most of what you see in nature, so you need black to basically create "artificial shadows".
