Just got my 329pd in today; going to try to take it plinking over the weekend. This thing is amazingly light.

Anyone else have one or an Airlite model?

I believe that guns should be tools. Revolvers have no place as tools, they are completely outclassed by semi autos in every single field... I mean if you like range toys is fine but you have to admit that in self defense they are completely outdated.
>>
I'm looking for a nice cowboy action revolver. I've got my eye on either the Ruger Blackhawk or Vaquero.

Are either of these a good choice?

Oh and I'm wanting it in .357 if that makes a difference.
>>
>>32118986
>nofunallowed.jpg

Also, if you want to carry something with more oomph than a 10mm, have fun finding that in a handgun.

Also, there's cowboy competition shooting.

Also, guns can be viewed as a hobby and an enjoyable time shooting fun things.

Also, the single action trigger on a revolver is better than any other handgun.

Also, go fuck yourself with a cactus.

Dude, calm down. No one fucking cares.

Wheel guns are far more reliable than semis. You ever hear of a revolver jamming?

You're aware of speed loaders?

Also, you know the competency comes from the shooter - not necessarily the gun, riiight?

>>
>>32120052
Hmm... You could do worse.

>is just too big and heavy to CC?
I think so. I think 30 ounces is on the heavy side and the GP100 is well beyond that. It's also pretty long and has that protruding hammer that could snag on clothing.

That's why most CC revolvers are internal hammer only, DAO, or K frame
>>

I have the GP100 Match Champion and with the right grips it'd be totally doable on a larger guy and with the right holster in my opinion.

>>32116243
You might consider buying a box of .44 special before loading that thing with .44 magnum.
>>
>>32119114
Not fagb8 you responded to but revolvers DO jam. The timing can get wonky and the cylinder latch vs. trigger mechanism make it stick together. Or you could always get the ol jumped crimp round hitting the frame. Moonclips getting bent nd not advancing properly, internal locks on airweights firing full power loads... shit the list goes on.
>>
>>32119002
I have neither, my father-in-law has both. Both shoot nicely. The Blackhawk is in .44 magnum and it's reasonably controllable considering the oomph on the boolit.

Just got new grips for my PC Stealth Hunter.

These are Rosewood round to square conversions from badger custom.

The good:
> They feel nice and are beautiful.
> They shipped fast.
> Easy to shoot- I ripped off 6 rounds right into an 8" gong as fast as I could bring the sights back down. I hate rubber hogues that comes on most PC guns; I always replace them immediately and was giving this brand a shot. I love the ergonomics.

The bad:

> They came with a screw that was stripped at the very far end, and on the first two cylinders came loose and formed a small crack on the butt of the left hand side. I am NOT happy about that.

> I made a quick field repair with some super glue to head off further cracking (It was a small crack but it is slightly raised and proud- it doesn't interfere with holding the gun but is noticeable if you look closely). The worst part is that this cracking occurred with very lightly loaded wadcutters. I contacted the manufacturer about the screw and he told me they were not proprietary, but that finding one with a working head size could be difficult. I made a new screw by using a 3/4" 6-32 hex head from lowes and grinding the head on my dremel to fit. I have had no further issues with the grips coming loose.

> On the plus side the crack did not appear to spread any further and I put 150 rounds of pretty hot loads through it.

> Fit is not as good as I was expecting. It's good but not "perfect" or even "fantastic". The left side panel is very, very, very slightly proud to the right. Not enough to be noticed while gripping, but in the right light and holding the gun at the right angle you can barely see it. Honestly if you weren't nitpicking you would probably never notice any fitment issues, but the crack makes me super critical of these.
My normal favorite N frame wood grips are Miculeks; this was something a bit different and I largely wanted it for looks. The cost is not very different. If they replace the cracked grips, 8/10.

>>32122656

And here is where you can see the real problem. If I had affixed the grips incorrectly it would be my fault they cracked, but the fact they provided faulty hardware to install the grips that allowed them to just barely go on means I'm going to be pretty salty about it if they don't fix it.

>>
>>32122664
Yikes. I was a bit worried about that too. Seems retarded they don't make a spacer sleeve/cylinder to prevent the grips from being pulled in and cracked.
>>
>>32122822

It's rarely an issue. The problem was an inadequate length screw that was also damaged was provided with the grips. Under normal firing, they loosened; when they loosened they broke.

Once a proper screw was fashioned, and some superglue was used to seal the crack, it no longer spread. That doesn't mean it won't continue to over time, but the typical stress is not THAT high.

You're pretty much locked into a GP100 (not a very good looking option), a 686, or a 627 for modern double action full size guns.

A Performance Center 627 or 686 can be very good looking depending on model.
>>
>>32121861
Nah they do jam sometimes, but they're still more reliable in that jams are usually just the trigger locking up (an easy fix) and you don't have to worry about misfeeds, bad primers, or ejection failures locking up your gun.

Jumping the crimp is a meme though.

S&W 27 is good. Easy to find new or used and not to expensive.
Korth is insanely expensive.
Manurhin is less expensive but harder to find new-ish. There's surplus trade-ins that are reasonably priced but in varying degrees of condition, only available with 3 or 4 inch barrels.
Pythons are only getting more expensive and hard to find.

Thanks anon.
The Korth is old. A few minor dents and scratches, and the finish is a bit worn on the barrel. It isn't even Willi's final iteration of his design. Having said that, the trigger is pretty damn good, and with wadcutters it will still take out the X-ring at 25 yards. It's also a very tightly build gun, with very little play in all parts, and damnit, I am in love with it.
The Manurhin is a bit looser, but... You can damned well comb your hair in that mirror finish, the frame is that smooth and the bluing that deep.
The SA trigger is roughly comparable to the Korth, but the DA trigger is just absofuckinglutely butter smooth.
Both are amazing guns, and they'll have to pry them out of my cold dead hands, because I'm never giving them up willingly.
>>
>>32125114
The Manurhin's DA is better than the Korth's? That's unexpected. I know the Manurhin can be adjusted on its hammer mainspring, trigger return spring, and trigger overtravel stop, but are any parts adjustable on the Korth?

>>
>>32125183
The Korth can be adjusted on SA trigger weight by means of a screw, and by DA weight by changing parts (which I don't have), and it has a trigger stop too.
But the Manurhin was designed from the outset to have the best possible DA trigger. That's actually part of it's design philosophy. Hell, it's DA mechanism literally runs on little rollers.

In the end the Korth is a sporting revolver, with tight lockup and a SA trigger adustable on th eoutside, whereas the Manurhin is a combat pistol first, with somewhat looser parts, but an absolutely great DA trigger.

I've heard people say that gp100s have ok triggers at best, but this is damn near the best single action I've ever shot. I've never shot a revolver before, but is it normal for them to not have any creep or over travel on SA?
>>
>>32127854
Pretty typical. The trigger is doing one thing in SA: dropping the hammer. No safeties or anything to disengage during the pull.
>>
>>32127854
>but is it normal for them to not have any creep or over travel on SA?
Compared to any auto other than a 1911?
absolutely.

Sweet, I think I can definetly get into revolvers. If this is an ok trigger, Im honestly excited to try a good trigger.

I've shot revolver my whole life, and so has my father, and grandfather, and friends, and people at the range.

I've yet to go to a range and not see someone's semi-auto jam, I've yet to experience a revolver malfunction.

CAN THEY malfunction? Sure they can, and it does happen, but near the same rate of a semi-auto? Not even close.

Oh good a revolver thread.

I have a terrible question I'll get bullied for.

Does anyone know how to disassemble a Taurus Raging Bull? There is literally no instruction manuel or youtube video on how to do anything on this thing. Just taking the grip off has been an impossible endeavor.

I know its a huehuehue gun, but this one hasen't given me problems. I just want to clean the damn thing. This was probably the only Taurus gun made by someone who gave a damn about qc
>>
>>32127015

Not him, but if I am reading the conversation correctly, you're the one splitting hairs, all he, and I am trying to say, is that revolvers don't jam/malfunction quite as often, so they DO have an advantage in that area.

To bring it up when discussing pro's and con's seems hilarious because statistically it is not probable.
>>
>>32129293

Well, revolvers aren't typically disassembled for cleaning the way autos are.

You mean, you want to take the grip apart and start scrubbing the internals in the handle? Because that's unnecessary unless you dropped it in the mudd or salt water or something

Or unless you've put around 20,000 rounds through it.
>>
>>32129338

Honestly I've never cleaned it and bought it new like 10 years ago. I just want to know what its like in there first, The firing pin atleast has to be filthy.

I can't even find instructions on cylinder removal. Only other revolver i have is the pocket nugget and its by far easier to take down.
>>
>>32129301
I never once used hostility to point out a factual observation but the fact of the matter is they can malfunction and regardless of if it happens even rarely it still does. Is stating a factual observation of something that was implied cannot mean I'm splitting hairs? No. It's a factual statement with no intent.
>>
>>32129408
It is probably 100% fine in there, but if you must, it's pretty obvious anon, get a screw driver and start unscrewing stuff.

Revolvers are a lot alike, look at a disassembly for a similar gun and you'll understand how certain things come off on yours. Just reverse the process.

I had never opened a revolvers internals before, and I removed the shitty Smith and Wesson lock they put in them, and put it back together, without so much the help of a video.
>>
>>32129444

The problem is, since he was discussing the advantages of a revolver (that being reliability), and you responded with your (and I agree) factual statement, it's pretty hard to believe you had no intent of using it as some form of argument.

In the end, it's clear, that even you agree, that revolvers have a MUCH better reliability record for going boom in a typical self/home defense scenario.

Which is why it looks like you're the one splitting hairs by using the "but revolvers also malfunction" statement.

That they do, but if a revolver malfunctions, there's SERIOUSLY something wrong with it, the same kind of seriousness that would completely make a semi-auto inoperable.

Everything man-made can and will fail, but I'm sure he knew that as well.
For some people, that's enough reason to carry one.
>>
>>32129473
Yea i see the lockplate and all that, but its all behind the grip which has no screws except the bottom mainspring screw. I assume it just controls the tension. I /think/ i need to somehow slip and pry this rubber grip off before anything else can happen.
>>
>>32129568

Where do you live anon? You can also take it to a gunsmith for a regular cleaning. You can also pay him to teach you how to take it apart.
>>
>>32129597
>paying for help cleaning a gun
Have you people no shame?
>>
>>32129597
A gunsmith ins't required for a cleaning. Instructions on how to disassemble said revolver is.

Guns nowdays are going toward the same path cars have. Requiring a "specialized technician" instead of a mechanic or home garage to service.
>>
>>32129621

Hey I clean my own, but this anon obviously can't so I am giving him the best advice I can, I don't want him ruining his gun or rendering it inoperable.

these motherfuckers are overreacting

i thought so at least then i realized

is this a .44??

god damn son. didn't realize they made these scandium fuckers in .44. honestly its a good looking gun and i like it but shit. you hand pussy is gonna be hurting (inbetween thumb and index finger). i've heard these are a bitch in .357 just like a .38 airweight, but shit man. i have a smaller .357 and when i shoot a real hot load that motherfucker is trying to leave my hand but yours is a full size grip and frame so i have a little confidence for you.
>>
>>32129547
That's your opinionated assumption. You're just used to everyone on here being an anus. While I cannot say that the majority would agree with me making it objectively funnier I will chide you on your gross misestimation.

They do fail a lot less than semi autos but that's not a good enough reason for me to carry a wheelgat over a semi. The original post I was responding to made a false claim and I just made a blatant observation. If stating the truth is abrasive then fuck me, I'm the king of sandpaper.
>>
>>32129831

Maybe I missed something, what was his false claim? His obvious exaggeration? If that's the case, I'll let it go, because I act the same way as you do, my fellow sonic loving friend.

By the way, I carry a glock 9mm for practical reasons, and it's reliable enough. But if I am in the woods, or at my house, and carrying a huge gun isn't an issue, you best bet I am carrying a 6 inch barreled 357 mag.

I saw a dude in my lgs asking for help taking a Les Baer Hemi he just bought on friday.
Nothing wrong with asking for help if you are green or unsure.

His face when the gunsmith spent 30 minutes with a rubber hammer violently beating it apart was priceless though.

I see that some of you posted GP100 Match Champions. How are the DA trigger pulls on those compared to a normal GP100? Do you feel they are worth spending a bit more for over a standard GP100?

Also, what's a good price for one?
>>
>>32118453
What do you think of the LCR vs the SP101?
>>
>>32122606
I have the black stealth hunter and a 627PC V8. They're both super sweet guns. The. 357 is setup as a race gun and is amazing.
>>
>>32132191
Heavy but smooth. Honestly, probably not as good as a comparable Smith. I got mine for about $750, but it's one of my favorite guns, I think it's absolutely worth the extra money over a standard GP, but it depends what you want it for.

If you want a camping or innawoods gun I'd take the standard GP.
