Make a kickass signal flare. Here's how. Pack it tightly into a a foot or two inch diameter steel pipe with a threaded cap at one side then stick a strip of magnesium in the center of the other. Now fill that end with about an inch of hot glue to hold it all in place.

Light the magnesium with a torch and as you hold it make sure to pint in a safe direction as it will shoot a jet of flame out the hole left in the hot glue by the magnesium which will quickly enlarge as it melts.
