POST 'EM SURPS!!
Took the old yugo out hunting yesterday. Nothing to shoot at though.
>>32113638
I like the Polish.
>>32113711
the 02 is actually Hungarian
Okay the price of mosins is fucking retarded right now, and near me in south eastern PA I see them going for up to 400 dollars sometimes
Right now I could get one, with bayonet and cleaning tools for 240
should I do it? Wait until trump comes in and see what happens? wait for a better deal? get another kind of surplus rifle for more money?
i am currently no guns
I also saw a place selling spanish mausers for 200 bucks and they need to get shipped, no cleaning stuff or bayonet, and also its a random pick.
In the last thread about what steel was used in guns...It all depends. A lot were just pure carbon steel, but they started to experiment with other allows like nickel steel around 100 years ago. The P14 and M1917 used nickel steel in their receivers that got Rock Island Arsenal to toy around with it and they liked it, but during that same time the director of Springfield Armory HATED alloy steels and specifically wrote in the contact for the steel provider to provide only carbon steel. It took until the late 20s or early 30s before Springfield used nickel steel except for the few Rock Island receivers they got and made into rifles.
>>32113768
Get the Mauser, assuming it's in 7.62x51
7.62x54R will never shoot as straight as 7.62x51, but unfortunately in recent times it's almost up to the same price. A Mauser for $200 is just a better deal.
If it's in 7x57 I would still get it, just be aware ammo is gonna be a bit pricy. However, 7x57 is one of the best cartridges in existence; just don't confuse it with 8x57.
>>32113638
Hopefully OP doesn't mind me reposting this from the last thread
So would anyone know the average GUN SHOW price ranges for these?
Going to a gun show in Denver next month. Never been to a CO gun show, so I don't know what to expect
Doubt I'd find any of them, but fuck, you never know.
>All wartime or pre-war
M1 Garand
P14
Type 99 or Type 38
M1 Carbine (I can't imagine how hard it would be to find a '42 or '43)
M1903
K98 (I've already got one but I want one that isn't a sporter)
>tfw nobody cares about US milsurp
Just got thos 43' inland M1 Carbine last week. It was re arsenaled and brought had an improved rear sight added as well as a flip safety instead of the push button. Shoots like a dream. My goal is to have the 4 classic US service rifles. I have the M1A and thic carbine. Next will be a garand then 1903A3
>>32114187
>So would anyone know the average GUN SHOW price ranges for these?
If you find them, 95% of the time they are at least 2 times what they are worth.
>ETERNAL ANGLO
>>32114187
Not sure about Denver shows...
but >>32114224 is correct.
if you go, get there before it opens on the first day, and be the first guy in the door. There should 1-2 good rifles at fair, or even BELOW MARKET prices that the dealers have not already snatched up (day before public is setup day and the dealers cherry pick each others shit -- been there done that). but they still miss a couple things or some dealers dont setup early.

How's the FN49?? I want one some day, but unsure if I should get one in 30-06 or 8mm (or both eventually.) I handload for my Hakim and Garand already so ammo cost and supply is no issue.
>>32114832
its sweet. mines in 8mm. I think it would run great in either caliber. handloads would work great too, the only times it jams is with hot surplus rounds (turk mg ammo, and once with yugo stuff)
>>32114906
Do they have an adjustable gas valve? And are they as "blasty" as the Hakim??
Should I buy an SKS for $550???

>>32114192
I'd love to get an M1 carbine, specifically an IBM, but I live in NJ and they are illegal here. Stupid, nonsensical, draconian gun laws.
You should go find a Krag or a Lee Navy. Or potentially this...
>>32115036
No, just save another 200 and get an AK
The SKS fucking sucks anyway
>>32115042
>I'd love to get an M1 carbine, specifically an IBM
Me too. My grandfather worked for IBM for 30+ years so I need one made by them. Unfortunately, it seems the price of them has gone up recently. :(
>or a Lee Navy
Too much want. I almost had one of those.
>almost ;_;
anyone selling in michigan?
>>32113638
Only because you ask so nicely.
How accurate are Yugo Mausers, generally?
>>32115258
What sucks is that my grandfather collected M1 carbines for years. He had just about every variant, including 2 Irwin Pedersens. I could have had one of his IBMs if I didn't live in NJ.
>>32115606
2-4MOA like most military service rifles.
>>32115619
There are a lot of other, better, states that you can always move to!
>>32115964
When I have the available money I plan to move to PA. But my grandfather has already gotten rid of his M1s.
Guys I'm honestly really depressed. Milsurp is drying up. I can barely find any sights that even carry it anymore. They're all perpetually sold out or way more expensive than they should be. Is there a company that's still selling shit besides nuggets for $300?
>>32116188
It'll be decades before milsurp dries up, importers are just being fucking stingy. Russia still has thousands of SVTs and tens of millions of Mosin Nagants, they're just not importing cuz sanctions. They have millions of SKSs too. There's still plenty of Mausers on the market and we're about to get some Korean Garands and carbines. There's still tons of Swiss rifles too. Don't worry, it's not going anywhere anytime soon
>>32116477
>we're about to get some Korean Garands and carbines
Has there been confirmation of that, or is it yet more projecting our fondest wishes upon the Orange Haired One?
>>32116487
It's pretty much a guarantee with the republican congress that we have
>>32116563
Plus my dubs confirmed it
>>32116563
The latter, then.
I am deeply suspicious of the same people that funded and rubber stamped everything Chocolate Nixon wanted cooperating with an outsider about ANYthing.
We'll see.
>>32114945
IIRC there is some way to adjust the gas, but ive never had to.
NOTHING is as blasty as the Hakim on "full open"
>>32116477
So wait, you think that we were getting floods of SVTs and Russian SKSs before Obamas 2nd term?
>buy M24/47
>looks clean
>shoots fine
>decide to open it up to do a proper clean up
>EVERYTHING is stiff as fuck
>have to basically "chisel" (using a screwdriver wrapped in cloth to prevent damage) open the floorplate, to remove the front metal ring/lug, etc
>seemingly no cosmoline/etc on it
>wipe it down anyway
>still a massive struggle to get it to assemble or disassemble
>front ring doesn't quite fit either, coming just short of letting the pin snap into it
What the fuck is going on this this damn thing?
Should 9mm C96s still have 7.63 on the barrel? About every red nine I've seen has had that, so I don't know if they're really 9mm or just have the grips.
>>32118727
A lot that were shot out got rebored to 9mm and people have put fake red 9 grips on them.
>>32119009
So in other words, looking for a red nine brings more trouble than looking for a good 30 mauser c96?
Thanks. So what is the sign of 7.62 tokarev being fired out of one again?
>>32119009
I mean is it really "fake" if that happened anyways?
>>32115964
First rifle I ever bought was one of those fudderated into a .30-06 by setting back the original barrel and rechambering, then putting on a sporter stock. Love it. It got me into milsurp and is still my go-to deer getter. Surprisingly accurate for something that has a bore three thousandths of an inch too big.
So gentlemen (and possibly ladies), should I end my hunt here? Or keep looking for something better?

>>32119576

>>32114187
Going to the Tanner on the 3rd or so?
Me and a buddy are going on the 18th,
I was there once before, a few years ago, but I don't really remember the milsurp prices that well.
I kinda expected it to be mostly fuddshit, but it was mostly milsurp and tacticool shit.

>>32113664
Do you know how prvi partisan shoots in your Hakim? Just picked one up and am looking for good ammo to shoot. Sportsmanguide also has cheap romanian stuff, but I'm not sure about it.
>>32113638
Is there any good surp on the market? Best thing I've seen were chinese SKS's and finnish m39's
>>32119964
Going on the 17th/18th. Is it mostly tacticool shit? Well then hopefully I'll see something neat at either Cabela's near Denver.
>>32120846
By good I assume you mean cheap. No, milsurp is no longer the poorfag entry to guns.
>>32119576
I won't even bid against you.
>>32121995
Thanks dick ass. But I'm not bidding. It's either gonna be Buy it Now, or I'm gonna ignore it. I'm just wondering if it's worth the 2 grand in that condition. I've seen worse ones go for more and better ones go for less.
>>32122002
The nice one here was $2500
>>32122002
Those nice ones usually are the ones that never left the states and weren't used by Russia.
>>32113638
Picked up my second overall gun and first milsurp yesterday. It's been sporterized but has a good bore and smooth bolt operation, plus all matching serials in the W block indicating 1901 manufacture. This was the cheapest of the 4 they had at my local Cabela's, all of the others had been drilled and tapped with fuddy scopes and rebored or rebarreled - 2 were rebored to fuddy-ought-six and the other rebarreled for .22-250. Mine's still chambered in the original 7.65x53. Paid $250 for it.
>tfw they had a Peruvian Mauser 1909 with intact seal
>for $900
>third South American Mauser variant I've found locally, after a Chilean 1895 at a pawn shop
>>32122394
>>tfw they had a Peruvian Mauser 1909 with intact seal
Is it the Cabela's in Buda, Tx?
>>32122470
Yes.
If you're planning to pick it up, it's near the middle of the top shelf of the rack nearest the entrance, on the side facing the gun library. There's a bubba'd Husqvarna 1909 on the same rack, bottom shelf. All used guns are (or were) 15% off too, if that helps.
>>32122535
I don't want it.

I don't care. I just remember seeing one there.
>>32122561
We're a strange bunch of collectors.
>>32122561
Understandable. They had an FN M49 once, pretty shit condition and priced at $850. Also, if that Berthier carbine in the first pic is yours I think I've seen you at a local range before.
>>32122575
What's strange about having conditions on what you want to collect?
>>32122600
Yeah, I know. It was an Egyptian FN-49. Which range? I only shot my Berthier Mousqueton once and that was over a year ago.
>>32122672
I mean the conditions that we seem to have and the things that interest us.
>>32122672
I guess it wasn't you, considering it was less than a month ago. Either way, it was at the outdoor range out in Lockhart.
>>32122692
We're collectors, not accumulators.
>>32122747
Well, that is the range I go to, but it wasn't me.
>>32122770

>>32113664
>>32120715
POST MORE FN49! I really want one to go with my FAL. IMO they're one of the best looking wood and steel autoloading military rifles ever.
>>32122561
I haven't frequented any milsurp threads in a little over two years, but I S T I L L have wet dreams about your pre-war MAS. That is such a beautiful rifle. Every single one I've ever seen in person I've always passed up simply because it wasn't as pretty or "original" as yours, and when comparing random ass MAS36s to your near prefect example it's hard to get excited about probably never finding an example as fantastic as yours.
Someday I'll pick up a cheaper post war refurb in nice shape just for the sake of having one, but still it just will never be the same as yours.
>>32121231
There was plenty of milsurp when I went there a few years ago. I saw at least 1 thompson, lots of lee Enfield's and garands, a couple sharps, nuggets. Oddly there was a shitton of mags for SVDs, but no SVD

Considering a few rifles. Input from owners appreciated.
M39 vs K98 vs Gew98
M39:
>+cheapest
>+much more common and cheaper ammo
>+common ammo with more of my rifles
>--some still have sticky bolt
>--still a mosin action
K98:
>+smooth action
>+probably the best functioning of the three
>--cost
>--cost of ammo
>--forgeries
Gew98:
>+classy and imperial
>+still a super smooth mauser
>+not really many fakes
>--ammo
>--harder to find in great condition
>--400 fucking meter zero
>>32128975
M/39 has the best sights of the three no question; if you plan on doing a lot of shooting that's most important.
>>32128975
I like the Mauser action, but "smooth" isn't really what I think of when I think of the Mauser. For smooth, I think of something like the Mannlicher- Schoenauer, or the Krag.
>>32129092
The Mauser is probably the grittiest I've ever worked. Smooth is the LAST word I would use to describe them.
Well, I'm probably overpaying, but I am making good on my personal commitment to end the year with a Lebel and a Russian 1895.
>>32129131
Quite a mass of people would disagree my friend
>>32129164
>overpaying
At first I was going to say yes, but then I realized the old joke was true and you just bought early. That's why I'm starting to look at old hunting rifles instead. Hey, most of them had actions used in important military rifles.
>>32129173
The masses are dumb and have few experiences to compare against.
>>32129173
>>32129198
Though I did forget about the Carcano, which is grittier.
>>32129307
There's no way a Mauser is worse than a Mosin. I have had 3, shot a number more, and I love them to death, but I acknowledge their shortcomings. The bolt is rough and extremely slow to cycle, and sticky bolt is most certainly not a cosmoline issue.
>>32129549
I'll take my M38 Mosin over any Yugo, Turk, or German Mauser in terms of smoothness. Hell, throw my 03a3 in there too.
>>32114516
Did you buy in person? I'm not closer at all to gun shows or any milsurp shops, so online is my best bet. But I'm uncertain off which places to buy from and not being able to physically handle the weapon, quality is an obvious concern. I need a good, trusted website
>>32129634

>>32114192
How much did it cost you? really want just US milsurp but im worried about the price
>>32130156
I'm just worried it'll be wont be a good pick, being online and all, but then again I might get a gem. But then again at $189.99 I should be good. Still stressing though will be first surp rifle.
>>32130176
Worst comes to worst you can always sell it later.
>>32129593
As an owner of both an m39 and an o3a3 I wholly disagree with your opinion. However, we both have different experience from different firearms and all things being equal, it's subjective.
>>32130263
Go fuck yourself with your diplomacy, we're here to bitch and sperg out about about petty miniscule details.
Na, my 03a3 is...rough. So I probably shouldn't include it in these sorts of statements.

I think that it probably is rough if the outward appearance is anything to go by. No offense but that thing needs a good oiling and love.

>mosin for 285 with only the bayonet

>Mk4 SMLE for 250, nothing else
Did I fuck up lads?
I emailed a guy closer to me for a mosin for 240 that comes with extra stuff (yeah I know, 240, but, I don't live near anywhere that sells for less, and all my offers are ignored)
what do lads
>>32133031
$240 is a very reasonable price, and can potentially be a amazing deal on the right Mosin. Thus isn't 2008, Mosins and all other milsurp will never be under $100, or even $200 again.
>>32132962
Your 24/47 is a Communist re-build just like the vat majority of Soviet Mosins. While a rifle assembled from used parts can still have a very smooth action (like my m/27) I find it is generally not as nice as a rifle with it's original factory bolt, whatever the design. My matching M24/47's bolt is mediocre as far as my Mausers go.
>>32133092
Ah the ever diminishing window required to find a smooth Mauser. I'm sure a all matching Pre-WW1 that was blessed by the Kaiser is what I need to shoot for to finally find a Mauser that I don't think is a chore to shoot.
>>32132089
That stock is beautiful.
>>32133193
>I'm sure a all matching Pre-WW1 that was blessed by the Kaiser is what I need to shoot for to finally find a Mauser that I don't think is a chore to shoot.
Actually no, my Argentine M1909 is smoother than my all-matching pre-WW1 Gew.98. If I judged all Mosin actions based on a single refurbed '42 Izhevsk 91/30 you'd consider that an appropriate sample size, right?

There's nothing wrong with T53s mechanically. Most of the ones with chewed up stocks have recently been imported from Albania.

looks like it was a legit GI bring back. funny i didnt even look at the serials when i bought it, i just wanted one with the monopod, mum, AA sights and dust cover --- so i shelled out the $200 as quick as I could.

>but its a 43 or 44 Kokura....
43 and 44 series weren't used, nor were they a part of Kokura's block. Kokura only made rifles in the 20-25th series. It will be one of the early ones if it has all of those parts. That's a steal of a price for $200!
>>32134647
What do you do for work if you don't mind me asking?
>>32135987
heres the receiver markings. 30XXX serial #
top of receiver is correct for early type 99s.
if its pre-43 then I guess it might be tokyo instead of kokura, right?
>>32136283
Computer Network Defense for the gov
>>32136306
ah, looks like series 23, Kokura
can you confirm?>>32135987
>>32135987
also, i meant 1943 year of manufacture
>>32136306
>>32136345
>>32136365
Yeah, it's a 23rd. Interesting stock damage.
>>32136418
yea its a clean little chunk. other side is fine.
the monopod is a little bent too. could have been damaged being shipped back, could be from battle. who knows.
im just thankful it fell into my lap
>>32136444
The Japanese manual actually tells the soldier to bend it to fit his means. lol They aren't exactly the strongest wire around anyways.
Are the screws still staked in place?
>>32136680
yes, but not as crisp as yours
>>32136692
oooooo pretty
>>32137023
Those aren't staked anymore. Someone has taken the gun apart.
>>32136692
All them mosins make my dick hard
picked up this type 38 at a gunshow for $200. no import marks and the man at the stand didnt know much about it. said he got it an estate sale, and just wanted to get rid of it. did i do go /k/omrades?
>>32137355
>did i do go /k/omrades?
Unless the the bore was worn smooth I'd have paid $200 for sure; nice find. I think the Type-38 long rifles are the most attractive Japanese rifles.
Has anyone EVER seen an Arisaka with an import mark?
>>32137355
I'd say that's a good price, especially with the mum intact and the bayonet to go with it. Is it matching at all?
>>32137457
the bore is in great shape, and not much wear on the crown.
>>32137479
rifle matching. bayonet is not
>>32137355
That looks to be a 25th series by Kokura Arsenal.
>>32137457
>Has anyone EVER seen an Arisaka with an import mark?
Quite a number were imported from China. So they do exist, just not in any large number.
>>32137584
>rifle matching. bayonet is not
Bayonets were not matched to a particular rifle.
What's the deal with Type 38 cavalry carbines, worth anything special? There's a guy near me selling one for $365, and I've always wanted a Type 38, but I know next to nothing about these particular versions.
>>32137659
I think it's spurious to call them cavalry rifles, but they just cut down some mostly worn rifles to a shorter length after they adopted the Type 99. The US Army reported that they found them to be used by second line soldiers in a division like cooks.
Is it best to aim for a K31, or are older Swiss rifles good too?
>>32120178
the arisaka is the way to go
>>32133302
the m95 steyr is a damn boomstick. those privi soft points create quite the fire ball
Just won an auction for my first Mauser, a Turkish 1903/30. Bid was $225, should come out to $280 after shipping/ffl fees. I'm pretty ambivalent about the price, could have gotten one cheaper if I waited and hunted around locally, but I've been wanting a Mauser for a while now and for some reason the Turkish ones just draw me in.
Did I do good /k/?
>>32138046
Nice T99. Do you know the series and manufacturer? If not, post a pic of the left side of the receiver and I'll tell you.
>>32138046
>hoof gunracks
>>32138198
>Did I do good /k/?
Do the numbers match? If so: yes; if not: ehh.
Welcome to the Turkish Rifle Club anyway!
>>32138297
Well what would you do with the hooves?
>>32138046
Fudds are so gross
how bad are Romanian Tokarevs compared to the others?
they will eat bulgarian surplus just fine right?
>>32138511
The bolt doesn't match, but from what I can tell everything else does. Metall/markings look great and bore is supposedly good, so hopefully it works fine and there's no headspace issues.
>>32132959
The ammo is still $40 for a 20 round box. Right now I am mainly considering getting a Chinese knockoff K98 Trainer (Norinco JW-25A) just to have it in .22LR
>>32139813
You should be able to find .303, one of (if not the) the most plentiful and cheapest of the milsurp calibers, a lot cheaper than $40. At least I would think, but this is Aus we're talking about.
But really, buying milsurp and complaining about the price of ammo it shoots is like buying a Ferrari and complaining about the price of gas it drinks.
P.S. ship over a Lithgow SMLE magazine kthx.
Hiroshima Nagasaki needs to fucking chill with these mass IP blocks trying to sell 4chan passes.
>>32134129
I've plenty experience with German ones. And they're a chore to use. Only shot a Swedish one a couple times so I'm withholding judgement.
>>32140081
The issue isn't just the price, but that if it's so expensive and the actual milsurp stuff is non-existent, the stock is always close to running dry as there isn't much of the modern factory stuff around.
Our customs laws are fucked, I don't think I can send you any gun parts without written permission from the police. Sorry man.
>>32140323
With all of the SMLEs in Ausland, there has bound to be commercial stuff running around.
>>32140473
>tfw never even shot my Lebel
Tbh, the forestock rocks a little so I need to fix that.
Is yours matching? N marked?
>>32140540
It is indeed. It's also shockingly accurate. Like, in the same league as my K31.
>>32140567
Nice! I need a nice, matching Lebel. Not so common, I'm afraid.
>>32140604
Yeah, good luck with that. I've never seen one, though to be honest I've only looked at them for a couple years now.
God my 1895 needs to get here.
The fuck did I buy?
>>32140878
Is that a Nugget?
>>32140907
It is
>>32140878
An M91 Dragoon refit to 91/30 standards. Mildly uncommon.
>>32140878
Now I'm not positive but I think it's a gun.
>>32140925
$150 wasn't too bad then? Everything matches except the bayo.
>>32140923
I would definitely keep that anon

Here you go
Between these threads and C&Rsenal, I think you all are responsible for the $5500 I've spent on milsurp this year.
So who likes toggle locks?

>>32141150
Just got one about a month ago. How do you like it so far?
>>32140638
Super jelly of the 1895, id like any version of it really because of it being the pinnicle of lever action design but the russian contract is just pure sex.
>>32138131
Id love to get a M95m or M95/30 longrifle but they seem pretty rare.
I guess a standard M95 infantry would be fine, Im just conerned that the older ammo will be even harder to come by.
>>32137742
The 89/11, 1911 infantry, and K11 are all rated for standard gp11 so action strength isnt a real concern and theyre all extremely accurate.
Theyre a little cheaper too.
>>32141527
8x50 is strictly a handloaders cartridge at this point. No major company makes it.
>>32141504
I really only have interest in the Russian one and one of the few that were used by the American military. Missed out on one of those last September.
Bumpan with pic
>>32138046
>Arisaka is the way to go
For me it's the only way to go
Fortunately I should be picking up a nugget by this weekend so I can shoot surp without breaking the bank
New pic for a change
>>32141616
I wana try RIA bidding someday, they get alot of cool shit in.
>>32141616
I was afraid of that.
Fuck it, i want one anyway.
>>32142011
just make sure you account for the "winners fee" they slap on top of the hammer price
ive got 4 rock island guns though, they are pretty easy to deal with.
>>32142022
You should be Reloading anyways. It saves you money, gives you better ammo, and it's fun.
>>32141616
>>32142022
PPU makes a fantastic 8x50

NEW THREAD
>>32144075
>>32137138
Doesn't everyone do that? First thing I do when I get a new milsurp is detail strip it, de-gunk it and check it over for rust and damage to the wood and metal before putting protective grease/oil back on as appropriate and re-assembling.
I'm too afraid of the rust monster and what can be lurking in places unseen. Most of my guns are completely stripped once a year or so, or if they've been out in the rain.
>>32140141
>mass IP blocks trying to sell 4chan passes.
Wut?
