Which would be better backpacking open carry sidearm in the michigan wilds?
(under $800)
I'm looking at the Ruger GP-100 (.357 .38) or the Taurus Model 44
The Ruger looks smoother and The Ruger brand seems to have good Reputation,
on the other I'm not familiar the unamerican Taurus brand
(outside of it exploding in videos on youtube)
I had no complaints about the raging bull in .44 I had for a little while.
I aligned the sights on thing.
Squeeze.
Hole appears in thing.

I have a GP100 and I love it.
Try and find a redhawk in .44 if possible, but the Ruger will be more durable in the long run, especially in .357.

Are bears at all a concern? Yes-44 mag is minimum for brown bear (shotgun or rifle far better choices) if your worst worries are coyote coywolves wolves dogs mountain lions 357 is fine but sometimes automatics are a better pick (pack of wild dogs)

Having owned a Tornass revolver before, I will have to say go with the Ruger 686 semiauto
>see what I did there.J-mother-fucking-PEG

There's bears in Michigan? I'd be more worried about apes that escaped Detroit. Would want a wonder nine to take care of them.

gp's are pretty with shorter barrels.
taurus barrel shrouds honestly look nice without the porting but they have a horrible reputation so the aesthetics is really all they seem to have going for them desu. ruger makes some really awesome revolvers like it'll probably last long enough to pass on to someone else. taurus probably won't. pass on like heirloom. quality wise taurus is living off the reputation of the raging bulls chamber but ruger has a much more solid reputation for magnums and pretty much anything else their revolvers are chambered in.
back packing, i'd consider the taurus though because it'd be a shame if the ruger got dropped in mud or something i couldn't clean up right away

Trips wasted on faggotry. Shame.

if you can only afford one like your not going to buy another, i'd get the ruger.
if i just wanted something to dick around in the woods i'd go with the taurus because i'd want to baby the ruger too much. plus 44 tends to get heavier bullets than 9's and i already own more 10mm than 9mm guns i just prefer them for now.

>Brown bear appears in the distance
>Cub nearby so it begins to charge
>Pull out my Glock 40 (not the problem solver version, unfortunately)
>Bear skids to a stop
>"Dude that's a long slide".
