How do you cope, /k/?

Knowing you'll never be a USMC Raider, Army 18X, Navy SEAL, USCG MSRT CIA SAD SOG, or another nation's SOF team member.

Sometimes I think about it and feel kinda sad.

Then I remember that i'm a faggot that cannot even do 50 push ups, so there's no regrets to have about something I couldn't do anyway.

You appear to be operating off the arcane ideals of US government. For the last hundred years it goes like this; you work for them, not the other way around.
>>
>>32107046
18x isn't an operator, just a candidate.
>>
Yes it sucks not being an 18e anymore. Oh wait, their is still the retirement check, comraderie, working for a defense contractor......it's not too bad retiring from that world.

I've got a friend who was an 18D.
He got TBI, and I've seen it's effects. He ended up in prison for a bit. He's got a few loose screws under it all, and sometimes when I get him drunk enough, he'll vent out some gnarly stories.

I had my ranger contract dropped at MEPS a few years back, and after becoming really close with some vets, I'm not too fucked up about not going in.
I'm now about to become a commercial diver instead. I'm proud of having to bust my ass on my own to get to where I am. Would've been a lot easier with a GI Bill though.

>not pissing my time away working for politicians

>>
>>32109935
You will soon figure out that in modern society you will always be working for a whole mess of people and groups pulling strings behind you.

You can't stop it, and it isn't some illuminati conspiracy. Everyone has their own agenda and ambitions. And the absolute mess of decisions by the powerful can determine a lot.

However doing you, and willingly doing something to get what you want is the only way to thrive in life if you have any ambitions. How else would you do such a job?

Then again you can always smoke weed everyday, be a hedonist, cloud your logic, and die on your deathbed regretting your lack of achievements.
>>
>>32107046
Im sorry man but the reason I had no interest in operating is that thise guys are constanly deployed to shitholes. Years of your life will be spent in some third would cesspool, waiting for something to happen. No thanks. Going on deploymet with a regular unit is bad enough. With special operations you spend far more time away than home. Not worth it to impress 10 year old boys and man children, the women you get for being a high speed sneaky pete, will just end up fucking a mechanic who is actually around while you are on your third tour in sudan.
>>
As sick at I imagine it would be to have their skillsets I don't think the risk of death or dismemberment, in addition to degraded mental health and the seeming certainty of knees that've blown out like a truck tire, is worth it.

I've jumped 35+ times and my knees are fine. I also squat almost 5 plates.

The reality is 3 things:
-some people have unfortunate accidents
-some people have awful genes physically

>>32107046
i got an 86 on my asvab and am swearing in next week. should i enlist as an 18x?
>>
>>32109985

Here's the thing, I know who I work for because the management chain is clear and the board of directors is public knowledge. I know my work doesn't involve doing the dirty work of the worst people on the planet. I know my achievements will actually help science and in turn help people instead of objectively making the world a worse place for the benefit of the establishment elite. Plus I get paid more doing it than just about everyone in the military.

On the flip side, the US military serves the whims of politicians and no amount of sophistry changes that fact.
>>
>>32110330
You cant unless you have a gt score of 110. With an asvab of 86, that's not likely.

By telling myself I was never fit to being one. I don't have the "personality" to be a SEAL or whatever. Those SOF type people have a mindset that if they have to get shit done, they get it done ASAP no questions asked without someone having to prod them to do it and that isn't me.

>>

Not true. Theres those types for sure. But I know a countless amount that were "I'm not sure."

There is nothing wrong with not being absolutely sure, as long as logic is involved. I knew going in I could fuck up or be fucked, and what do you know I got both. But I stuck to it and have never given up.

I dont want to be a career military man. I mean, I could have but after 4 years it just felt like I had had enough. Granted, I was only in the 82nd airborne, but the thought of another 4-20 years of military life wasnt for me. Like if I had done it I would have resented it
I play pretend operatah at my range and go hiking and innawoods on my own time which is more fun and I joined an LEO dep., looking at a spot in missing persons detective so I feel useful and operatuh in that way
>>
>>32107046
Pretty comfy, if I passed I'd probably would stay in till either I died or killed myself after knowing too goddamn much and how we're making things worse. Then there's always today's ally is tomorrows enemy mentality eating at the back of your mind.

So I'll keep in shape, join the national guard, pay to train privately, stay in college, do a tour or two, help out of theirs a disaster, get a good job that I can still do when I'm old and live my life knowing while I'm not a tier one elite operator, I'll be well above average in everything else that matters.
