You have to use them to fight the ichthyosaur in the last level. Only the 9mm pistol and crossbow work underwater.

Not really. The idea that divers would fight other divers is far fetched at best. Unless you have an incredibly small port with a very high value ship in it, it's infeasible to post guards underwater to try and intercept enemy frogmen. You'll rely on small boat patrols, anti-diver nets, and controlling the waters around your port to secure your assets, with the very occasional diver sweep to check for mines or some shit.

If your divers are doing anything other than placing limpet mines (which are an outdated weapon of dubious effectiveness in the modern day) then you will arm them with regular guns to use when they exit the water. Life is not a James Bond movie, the enemy is not going to suddenly deploy swarms of divers to chase your divers down if they are detected. the areas involved and men needed or such an operation aside, most diver operations are going to take pace at night, in zero visibility, it would be like playing Marco Polo, but with knives, and in a giant pool where the other guy doesn't even have to say Polo any time you say Marco.

as the Cold War progressed, rapid underwater insertions of special troops (frogmen) became a credible threat to naval facilities. A key part of the Soviets' anti-frogman doctrine was to use defensive frogmen who would engage infiltrators.

Before underwater firearms were developed, Soviet defensive frogmen were usually issued with a Kalashnikov (for use above water only) and a knife, which would be their sole defense against enemies while underwater. Underwater hand-to-hand combat is a pain in the ass, so the Soviets looked for a way to buff their frogmens' defensive capabilities.

the APS rifle (see >>32100559 ) was one of a handful of firearms designed to be used underwater by defensive frogmen, and it gave them a massive edge in combat compared to what a knife could do.

so to answer your question, you might could say that they are an overly-specific category of firearm that has no real practical use, and 99.9% of the time you would be correct. However, should a situation arise in which you need an underwater weapon, a gun like the APS will seriously fuck shit up.

I apologize if I sound like a super-autismo btw, I get really verbose when I'm tired
>>
Yes. They allow you to shoot underwater. Or to shoot as soon as you exit the water, but a disposable silencer allows you to do that as well with most firearms.

It's like a weapon that kills all clown muggers in a 100m radius. Useless in most situations, but you'll be very happy to have it the day you face a horde of clown muggers.

On a sidenote, the P11 is REALLY expensive to reload.

>>32100863
And you can just put a few HE grenades in the water to kill the divers with overpressure.

if you're gunna use a gun underwater it should be this one. Its ammo is actually compact and it can fire regular 5.45 when you're not using the special underwater ammo.

They're good for shooting people underwater.
It doesn't happen much, but I suppose it's nice to be able to do it.

They'll be great for the inevitable dolphin war, I guess.

When is the last time you were underwater and needed to shoot something?

There's your answer

p interesting, familia, it'd probably be worthwhile to manufacture them in small numbers just to keep on large vessels.

Do they do this?

in that situation (high value target that's relatively small), couldn't you quite easily defend it by putting a fucking hugely powered sonar ping or something similar? something that would straight up burst their eardrums and cause them severe respiratory/muscular discomfort?

New DSG ammo is better. It can be used both in air and water no need for ammunition change. Also it can be used for shooting from air into water and back.

not that anon
the ADS shoot some type of APDS round, and the tip is machine to create supercavitating

so i thing it is the same thing as DGS ammo

7N10 and 7N21 have superior ballistic out of the water so they switch ammo in land.

if you put a pin tip on it it could exceed the speed of sound via water cavitation.

5,45x39 PSP ammo doesn't stabilize in the air. It can be used as emergency mode with limited range and accuracy on surface.
