Hey /k/

Talk me out of getting pic. related.
>>
>>32096004
Don't. My Dad gave me $3,000 to build a 1911 and I used it all up and couldn't do it. Fitting is really fucking hard.
>>
>>32096004
>muh stoppin powah
But seriously, you can never go wrong with more guns
>>
those enough of a gun to need ffl?
>>
>>32096031
yes. they're complete ready to use frames.
>>
>>32096004
Price?
>>
>>32096059

Don't you fucking do it OP.
>>
>>32096130
why?
>>
>>32096004
This is a better deal
https://www.stealtharms.net/1911-phantom-jig-334.html
>>
>>32096109
For 100$ fuck it buy 3.
>>
>>32096152
sooooo.....$100 vs $350?
>>
>>32096144
look at the other parts you need. Try to figure out what kind of slide you need to order. Just try. It's a nightmare waiting to happen unless you already know what you're getting into.
>>
>>32096167
Soooo.....legal firearm you need to meet requirements to purchase vs some chunks of metal that you don't need to meet any requirements to purchase.

Plus with the deal you get the 80% frames for cheap.
>>
>>32096194
um....what? elaborate please.
>>
>>32096219
okay. I already meet all the requirements to get it anyways. I'm not really seeing your point.
>>
>>32096242
I'm assuming you're an American.

Alright, if you by the stripped frame, it counts as a firearm and you need to pass a background check. Unless you have a FFL, you will need to ship it to a FFL and pay any applicable transfer fees. There is potential for the ATF to get records of your purchase and know you have a "firearm".

If you buy the 80% with the jig, it doesn't count as a firearm and you don't need to pass a background check. You can ship it straight to your door, no FFL required. ATF won't know you have a firearm as you purchased a block of metal.
>>
>>32096242
>>32096295
Oh, almost forgot, if you like making your own guns the jig is a one time buy. So you only need to buy more 80% frames (and parts of course) to make more, just like if you were buying stripped frames.
>>
>>32096308
170 bucks for an 80% frame is still more then 100
>>
>>32096325
$70 to have it shipped to your door without a background check or FFL. Sounds pretty good to me.
>>
>>32096354
your forgetting about 80% being aluminum and completed being steel
>>
>>32096295
>>32096308
none of this is a problem for me. This is my first time "building" a 1911 and I'm not wanting to commit that kind of price for something I'm more than likely going to use once. this is just a fun project for me to build. It'll end up being used for Heavy Metal Competition and hunting/hiking.

I emphasize building as I already have a Officers model that I've quite literally stripped every part off of it, cerakoted it, and reinstalled everything back on it. So, I'm pretty comfortable with assembling a 1911. I've also rebuilt the internals once already and looking and rebuilding the internals again.
>>
>>32096395
Which doesn't matter in the slightest. Besides, you can get 80% in steel.

>>32096401
>home built
>competition
You're crazy, but if you don't mind going through an FFL, then go for it.
>>
>>32096004
I installed an ambi safety on my 1911 and it took me hours. Supposedly that's the easiest thing you can do too.

You have to fit it to the seer. That means go to insert it, doesn't fit, pull it out, one single file swipe, insert, doesn't fit, pull it out, one single swipe with jewelers file, insert, doesn't fit, repeat for a long time.
Finally fit, start on fitting grips to me safety.

I mean it wasn't that big a deal but if that's the easiest thing....
>>
You need ~$300 in tools to fit a 1911 together at bare minimum. $500+ if you want to do it right. The locking lug file, barrel leg lug cutter/jig, etc. It can all be bought from brownells, but it's going to cost you. Then you'll probably fuck up atleast one thing on your first try, and you'll have to buy replacement parts.

It's only economical if you want to build >3 1911/2011's, and that's only in comparison to higher end ones. You're best off with buying a RIA 1911 if you want a good, cheap, fun shooter. If you want competition stuff, pony up for the STI/SVI's or be prepared to learn how to build them.

All that said, if you want it for the experience, go for it.

built this from that. fucking do it to it
>>
>>32099391
The slide serations look great, I like the sights, the stub safety with that trigger the whole gun came out really coherent and great man except for 40 on those grips. Why 40? Nobody thinks you have 40 of those or that it's some kind of serialized issue gun. It looks fake, pretend and therefore ridiculous on an otherwise cool looking 1911. Was 40 your number when you played highschool football or something?
>>
>>32099631
Not him but I saw some 1911A1 parts kits on the market a while ago that had grips with rack numbers like that
>>
>>32099631
bought a parts kit to build with the frame. the number, 40 in this case, is the rack number. if you buy surplus stuff it often has a rack number. but ya, the government has well over 40 of these things. the total build cost 350$ and as a bonus they but my favorite type beer on the grips ;)

>>
>>32096022
Why the fuck didn't you just go buy a Wilson/Nighthawk/Baer/STI/Cabot/Ed Brown?

>>
>>32099987
TFW was debating between a mid-tier 1911, a sexy Combat p220 like yours and ended up getting an FNX45T

;_; i regret it ever since
>>
>>32100085
I did.
>>
>>32099906
I was under 21 at the time and I thought it'd be easy.
>>
>>32100323
you can always sell it, buy a 220 or 227 and spend the left over ~300 on mags and ammo. never shot a squishy so i cant really compare it to any thing but you do you
>>
>>32099873
They're out of stock now; I checked there first when I saw the PSA deal. I've been setting my Sig 1911 up to be a suppressor host so I've got a spare barrel, trigger, bushing and soon to be nice night sights so I figure I might as well build another one out of those parts
>>
>>32101416
you gotta call and wait bro
>>
>>32096228
damn you sure are one dumb bastard. shit i don't even care what happens to you but i understood what that anon was saying. BUY away faggot.
>>
>>32102622
Uhh... I did it. I built a 1911 with a Darci kit. I used an old file I found in my dads garage. It still needs some loving, but everything fit together amazingly well. Same frame op is looking at.
>>
>>32096401
Lol, you dont assemble a 1911 like you do with an AR or a Glock, you actually have to build it, hand fit all the parts properly.

Unless you have a significant skill in metalworking Id bet agaist it. Besides evem if you do itd just be cheaper to buy a good one anyway .
>>
>>32096022
i hate you
>>
>>32096004
Don't.

t. guy who did an 80% 1911
>>
>>32102925
There is minimal work in these frames with a sarco kit. I filed down the sides of the trigger, and of course the barrel is the hardest part. It's nothing like you're saying, and I'd venture to say you've never built one.
>>
>>32100323

Built this earlier this year, accurate and reliable. Apply yourselves and you can do it too.
>>
>>32103778
did you blue it or un blue it?
>>
>>32096004
Do you have $200 to spend on new tools?
Do you have another $200 to spend on tools you thought you could get away without using?
Do you have another $200 to replace the parts you fuck up due to inexperience?
Do you have a few extra weekends with no plans on top of the time you've read it will take on gun forums?
Do you realize that things are never as easy as people say they'll be?
Are you not easily frustrated?

If you answered yes to everything, then you'll enjoy putting together a 1911.
