Today, we review the WORST weapon ever adopted by a military ever.

The tale of this shit sandwich, starts with the Air Force.

And it just gets worse.
How this weapon came to the attention of Air Force General Curtis LeMay.
Gen. LeMay, adopted multiple strategies that fucked the US.
Only Missile armed F-4's, focusing on bombers instead of ICBM's.
Now how the M16 was adopted is even more shady.

OK. Let's get this straight. A AIR FORCE General, without ANY testing adopted a rifle for combat.
Now the US Army, protested the action.
In trials the M16 failed reliability test's over and over.

The original versions of the M16 were shit, yes. They function perfectly fine after some revision. I'm not a huge 5.56 fan, and I think that a firearm based off of the AR-18 would have been better, but what are you gonna do? The AR-15 family is a fine assortment of weapons in this day and age.

The only guns I've seen jam in combat have been SAWs, which was a bummer for them, but we had two 240s in most of our patrols and I can think of only one instance where more than one SAW jammed at the same time. The M16s and 4s that we had all worked as designed. I don't know about the rest of my platoon, but I did pretty minimal maintenance while deployed. I'd open it up a couple hours before a mission and eyeball everything, make sure there wasn't debris in the chamber or lower receiver and close it back up. After uneventful missions, I'd field strip it and wipe it down with a dry rag. If there was a TIC, I'd clean it a bit more thoroughly, sure, but I'd never detail my rifle to "arms room standard" unless I got a wild hair up my ass while watching movies.
If you had problems with your rifle, it's probably because you weren't reporting any issues to your armorer, your armorer wasn't addressing the issues or sending the gun further up the maintenance channel, or because your leadership wouldn't let you or your armorer report anything because it makes their readiness report look bad.
